It's going to be interesting to see how they balance out their team though. On paper, their forward group is terrific but the defence is still lacking. Obvious thing is to trade Nylander or possibly Marner for defensive help.

Hard to see how they keep all their kids, assuming Matthews gets a matching deal next year.

You can do a similar thing to Pittsburgh.

Run a hit goalie and ridiculous top 6.

Leafs get Tavares and are still the 3rd best team in their division. That defense is awful as Andersen is mediocre at best.

I had expected more from Tavares as he seemed like a likeable guy but appears like many athletes he is not what he seems.

Hope he never plays a game for Canada again after this disgraceful move from him.

They opened their window wide open with JT in the mix. He’s never had this stacked of a team behind him. The only thing that could hurt them is the team imploding; but with some decent business and rising cap they’ll be fine. Especially at 11M for JT.

He did he thought was best for him. That’s on him, he did his time and can choose where he wants to play. On a high note he isn’t in our division. On a low note, the most annoying fan base in the world just got more annoying.

They lost JVR + Bozak and gained Tavares. I think it probably made them marginally better now, with a way better foundation to build off of

They got way better. Tavares has the ability to elevate average-ish players into borderline stars (Bailey, Lee, Okposo, etc). Now he gets to play alongside a Marner or Nylander. Leafs are definitely a contender but they'll probably have to improve their defence before they can actually win.

You can put Marner on one wing, some scrub on the other; and that scrub will elevate to 40-50 points easily.

They got tremendously better.

Meanwhile we’re sitting here with our killer centre depth. None of which can sniff ppg.

Haha what? Your post makes zero sense. What exactly did Tavares do to disgrace himself, the Islanders or Canada? If anything the Isles failed him.

On paper. The Isles rarely made the playoff with Tavares

Going to the Leafs is a disgrace in itself but that bogus letter “thanking” the Isles fans makes it that much worse.

The guy showed he is truly scum with his choice today.

Yeah, Islanders had nine (9) years to build something around Tavares and they did nothing. Stuck with Snow and a pile of terrible coaches, drafted terribly despite several high picks, couldn't even come close to building a solid playoff team, let alone a viable contender. Granted ownership was a problem until recently but that's not on Tavares. Sucks for Islanders fans but Tavares earned the right to go where he wants.

Oh no, an adult man chose to go to a different organization after dealing with years of mismanagement! And he dared to address the fans. The man's a monster.

Tremendously is a stretch. They better win the cup this year, because next year things get real sticky.

Congrats. This post is worse than your previous. Your hate of the Leafs doesn’t mean Tavares did anything wrong. He didn’t do anything disgrace himself, his letter showed that he has class. Your lasts 2 posts are casting you in a light that you see Tavares in.

Looks like a “lockout proof” contract. Unless I’m mistaken, salary is not paid during a lockout, but signing bonuses are.
Works well investment wise too. He's got his $650,000+ salary for day to day living expenses and pocket change and he gets millions of $$ in lump sums to invest as he pleases.
