Also this deal really goes to show how much of a steal we have Wayne Simmonds for.

Simmonds - 60 point forward - 3.975
Schenn - 60 pointish forward - 5.125

Of course different times signed, different type of players etc, but doesnt change what he is making

Simmonds will earn 4.7M, respectively 5M in the last 2 years of his contract. 4.3M next season.

But of course, the cap hit is incredible for us.

When is Simmonds up, next year?

No! 3 more years with Wayne Train! :handclap:

Had a feeling it was longer...that's what happens when you try to look at the cap sites on your phone, everything is a cluster**** and hard to read

Meant cap-hit. In the end still less than Schenn.

Flyers now have 7 of the Top 9 forwards locked up for at least 3 more years. That's a pretty good stretch to have on your forwards and I think we are all pretty confident in those 7.

Giroux
Voracek
Schenn
Coots
Simmonds
Raffl
Weise - ok debatable.

Only took until page 2 on the main board thread for the Leafs fans to mention Kadri's name. It's unreal lol, they remind me so much of Cowboys fans

Schwartz: $97,273
Killorn: $111,250
Johansson: $89,869
Kreider: $102,778

Average: $95,597

Schenn: $85,417

Last 2 yrs production CostPerPoint:

MacKinnon: $116,667
Scheifele: $103,814
Palmieri: $91,176
Smith: $111,111
Trocheck: $96,939
Schwartz: $82,308
Killorn: $105,952
Johansson: $93,537
Kreider: $100,543

Average: $100,227

Schenn: $94,907

Last 3 yrs production CostPerPoint:

MacKinnon: $108,621

Basically:

Schenn going off last year and last 2 years production is a very good deal... going off last 3 years it is a ~$150k over-payment.

Even Charlie who's been critical of him, says if Schenn reverts back to being bad in the DZ & NZ and basically becomes a powerplay specialist, but scores 50ish points, it's an overpay, but not THAT much.

You're the best Appleyard. Facts and figures, reasoned analysis.

Cause Macnow is a decent radio guy, i'll give him a pass on his comment, erroneous as it is. Up until last season, Schenn always left one wanting more, if he wasn't scoring he was often invisible, seemed to scored in bunches instead of consistently chipping a goal or assist each game.

Given how long that was and only one year above that line, it takes time for perception to change.

Contract falls right where folks thought it would, >$5, <=$5.25. And the best part, is in the Ufa resign period, he's either going to be making similar money with a raise, or it's tradeable. I love the signing bonus, cause that makes a summer trade even easier, the Tor - Ana trade of goalies was done in sections as to allow Tor to take the hit, but that two transaction deal was one trade, and the Flyers can pay those things all day.

The Flyers, ever using big dollars to find loopholes.

Its a fair deal. On the plus side is four years, two of which are UFA ones. On the other side, I was hoping that the deal would be more in line with what
Kreider and Johanssen received. They look like comparables to me. However overpaying half of a million per season to avoid having a mess on your hands is worth it. Now that he has this deal, he needs to play up to it.

Projected cap space by capfriendly.com

$2,251,667

They have Laughton and Lyubimov off the roster, and Brennan on it. Which doesn't make any sense to me.

If you remove Brennan ($625,000) & Weal ($650,000), and add Laughton ($863,333) & Lyubimov ($925,000) the cap space number becomes $1,738,334 with just Manning left to sign.

Hopefully Hakstol keeps Schenn to the left of Giroux, but gut feeling says he goes back to using Raffl there. As well, hopefully this Schenn contact doesn't become a Voracek type deal where he's going to crap the bed the first two months of the season.

Pretty big fan of this contract. Perfect term IMO (should be tradable if needed) and the cap hit is definitely manageable. Good job Hexy.

I'm okay with this. Most of his prime. Other forwards will be pushing for spots and contracts in the future as this is expiring. Then they can evaluate the roster again.

Also, if the reports are true and there are signing bonuses every single year -- seems a more tradeable contract as it goes along (post July 1st signing day). A "Summer-tradeable" contract, if you will.

He played really well with Coots (last year too) so at least if it doesn't click with one guy it will potentially with the other

Crap, we need at least $50,000,000 to sign Manning.

He's got the tools. I'm confident he's hitting his prime. I'm psyched. There is some risk, but not a lot. I think Hextall is doing something special here.

Kreider career high 46 points
MoJo career high 47 points.
Schenn before this past season 47 points.

But then Schenn just posted 59 points. That's what is separating him from all those other guys. His agent has the arguement that Schenn deserves more than them based in this past season AND that Schenn has increased his point total for 6 straight years.

And let's be honest, we just got 47 and 59 point seasons out of Schenn while paying him 2.5 million. So he paid his dues and did what was asked....perform.

And with this contract, based on the points to $ ratio I use, he needs to be a 51/52 point guy to be a fair contract. If he gets more, it's a good year off him. If he gets less, then it's a bad year.

I am comfortable he can get 50+ points a year playing in our top 6 for the next 4 years.

Laberge replace Simmonds
Allison....replace Schenn
Rubstov replace Couts

;)
