Panthers Move Down; Trade 1st Overall Pick

The Florida Panthers have traded the 1st overall selection in the upcoming Entry Draft, along with defenceman Ed Jovonovski, to the Vancouver Canucks.

In exchange, the Panthers receive the 6th overall selection, as well as the 36th overall, and solid defenceman Chris Tanev.

:nucks confirm.

Was a high price to pay, but we feel moving up to 1st overall was worth it. There are two pieces that seem to be almost impossible to acquire unless you draft them and that is #1 center and #1 d-man. We feel that in either Sam Reinhart or Aaron Eklbad we will be able to add one of those pieces to our organization going forward.

:nucks place Ed Jovanovski on waivers.

Interested to see you build the defense and goaltending in Pittsburgh with that top heavy roster Donut. Particularly if you keep Malkin. Going to have to get creative.

Well if you forgot, I did acquire Niemi so goaltending is not my biggest issue right now. Forward depth and defence are my priorities right now.

Popping in and out tonight.

Looking for a Top 6 LW in his prime. Will consider packaging assets like the 10th OVR, DSP, Rakell, Vatanen, Perrault and more to make it happen.

Stewart- Will move him if I get a solid offer, or wait until the Deadline next year. Ideally would like a 1st + asset, but would probably settle for the pick if I can get something in the 11-16 range (or add something to get a Top 10 pick)

Erhoff- Listening to offers....would probably take a 1st + Good young NHLer or prospect with high ceiling. 4M is a great caphit for a #2/3D (even if it runs a litle long). Would retain some cap, but the offer will go up (Erhoff at 2.5 for example is awful similar to Myers at 5.5)

Leino- Anyone? Anything?

Weber/McBain- decent young D-men, just don't have much room or interest in them. Would trade one + 2nd for a 2014 or 2015 1st, or a solid pick/prospect/young NHLer

Enroth/Hackett- See above

Knapp- Another G I have no room for. Low pick/prospect will do it

#31, 39, 49, 50- All are in play. Would like to trade 2 or 3 of these picks to get a 1st, or for a young NHL/near-NHLer or two, or for 2015 picks, or even one to move down (maybe 50 for a late 2nd and a 3rd/4th?)... I'm open

Have a deal to announce tomorrow, going to let other GM announce when he wants.

Now in the market for a #1 goalie. Assets available targeting rebuilding teams, so if you are looking to get younger/rebuild and want to give away your goalie I'm your guy.

Another trade to shake up the old 'Thrasher's Core' that came into Winnipeg. We have completed 2 deals thus far, (more on the way) and currently set ourselves up with a future core of: Jacob Trouba, John Gibson, Zach Bogosian, Evander Kane, Mark Schiefele, Emerson Etem, Charlie Coyle, Josh Morrissey, Nic Petan, Zack Phillips and soon to be 2 more 1st round draft picks.

We love the game of Charlie Coyle. He owns a tremendous skill set, has great size, and can play both wing and center. We may even try to implement him at C, as it's always nice to have size up the middle.

Zack Phillips is a very talented offensive center, who was a former 1st round pick. We think we can get him back on trajectory in our system.

We thank Tobias for his years of service with the Thrashers/Jets organization. We wish him, and the Wild organization success in the future!

Still have Dennis Wideman, Paul Byron, Joe Colborne, David Jones and TJ Galiardi available, as well as one of Sven Baertschi / Mikael Backlund to fetch us a young, top 4 RH d-man

Also looking for a starting goaltender and a top 6 RW. Picks #17, #34, #54 and some prospects could also be packaged with the above assests to fill our needs.

TRADE ANNOUNCEMENT

:leafs :sharks

The San Jose Sharks have acquired defenseman Jake Gardiner and Tim Gleason, as well as forward Carter Ashton, Frazer McLaren and Sam Carrick from the Toronto Maple Leafs, in exchange the Sharks sent to the Leafs forward Joe Thornton and Tyler Kennedy, as well as defenseman Jason Demers.

''It was very tough for us to move Jumbo Joe, he's such a great player. Jake (Gardiner) was one of our main target. He's a guy we really wanted in our Young mouvement, he's a defenseman with good size, great and smooth skater, good hockey IQ, moves his puck very well, good shot from the point, great hands and skills level. He's a guy that had great skills, offense and puck moving to our D-core, also has very solid defensive upside. He has huge upside, he's a real building block for our D-core. Once he filled our his frame and improve a bit defensively, he'll be a force for us. We are thrilled to have a Young player of his caliber''.

''Tim (Gleason) is a real warrior on the back-end. He's big, he's tough, hits hard, a beast at clearing the crease, and will always step up for his teammates. A block shot machine, one of the best shot blocker in the NHL. He'll add another dimention to our D-core, and he'll be a great leader, mentor and example to follow for our Young team. A real team player''.

''Carter (Ashton) is a real power forward. He's big, has a high-motor, works very hard, hits hard and often, will step up for his teammates, has a very solid shot, good speed and IQ with decent hands and skills. A real beast along the wall and in one-on-one battle, very strong. We love his power forward upside''.

''We are happy to bring Frazer (McLaren) with us in San Jose. With our big and physical team, adding one of the top heavyweight fighters in the league was important for us. Frazer is still very Young and we believe he has the upside to develop into a solid bottom 6'er for us. He's a real team player that will be great to have in our locker-room''.

''Sam (Carrick) is the type of player you never have enough in your system. He fits our style perfectly. He's an heart-and-saoul guy that works very hard, hits everything that moves, will fight for the team, great defensively, on the PK and shot blocker. Good skills set as well, a great year offensively this year in the A. An off the chart work-ethic and lots of leadership abilities. This guy will be a great bottom 6'er for us for years. Good luck Joe, Jason and Tyler in Toronto''.

Thanks to Joel Ward for the smooth negotiations.

We place Ryan Malone on waivers with the intention of using our 2nd compliance buyout on him.

Looking to acquire two top defensemen (prefer RH) and possibly a top 6 RW. We have a lot of quality pieces available, so I'm looking for the best players I can find.

Killorn, Kucherov, Namestnikov, Erne, Purcell, Connolly, Panik, Koekkoek, Sustr, Aulie, Barberio, Lindback...other picks and prospects all available. Only moving Drouin if I get an absolutely elite player back.

Also looking to move Eric Brewer. 1 year left at $3.875M. Limited NTC. Will only cost a pick or prospect.

We officially will use a compliance buyout on Ryan Malone.

Eric Brewer still available!
