Rangers Acquire Pavelski

joe.pavelski.jpg

The New York Rangers have made a move to tweak the team that made it all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals last season, adding 40 goal scorer Joe Pavelski from the San Jose Sharks. Also coming back to the Rangers in the deal was defenseman Matt Irwin and the Sharks 2015 3rd round draft pick.

Going back to the Sharks was forward Derek Stepan, defensemen John Moore and Dylan McIlrath, and the Rangers 2014 2nd round pick.

"We are very pleased to add Joe and Matt to our line-up. Joe will take over Derek's role as the second line centre between Chris Krieder and Rick Nash. Matt will assume the fifth defenseman position alongside Kevin Klein. We would like to wish Derek, John and Dylan all the best in San Jose."

We confirm.

''It was obvious we needed a change in San Jose. We are thrilled to add a Young center of Derek (Stepan) caliber. He brought the Rangers to the Stanley Cup final as the best center of the team. He's a very skilled playmaker that can score as well, he's got a great hockey IQ with a very solid two-way game, he's strong along the walls as well. He's 23 years old and he already got a Stanley Cup final, an Olympic game, a World CXhampionship, he also has a U20 goal medal, as the best player of the team and the tournement. Having Couture and Stepan down the middle for the future will makes us competitive and one of the better teams down the middle for years''.

''John (Moore) will add a lot of size and speed to our D-core, something we really needed. He's a big defenseman who skates really well, moves his puck well and has a good shot from the point. Can be really physical too. The former 1st round pick showed very good flashes with the Rangers, we believe he'll explode with us next year. A very nice piece to add to our defensive core''.

''Dylan McIlrath is a giant, tough right handed defenseman. He has a real mean streak, is a future heavyweight fighter in this league. To add to that, he's very solid in his own-end, hits really hard, skates decently and moves his puck well for a big man, and has a booming shot from the point. He's a guy that fits our style, and will be a croe piece of our d-core in the future. Good luck to Joe is New York''.

Thanks to SixthSens for the smooth negotiations.

TRADE ANNOUNCEMENT
:pens :sharks

Change of culture continues in San Jose. The Sharks have acquired forward Brandon Sutter, Beau Bennett and Jean-Sébastien Dea, as well as defenseman Brian Doumulin and goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury from the Pittsburgh Penguins, in exchange, the Pens receive forward Patrcik Marleau, goaltender Antti Niemi and San Jose 2nd round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft. Sharks will retain 15% of Marleau salary.

''Brandon (Sutter) is one of the best 3rd line center in the league. He's a big (lanky), young right handed center who's got an elite defensive, works hard and work-ethic off the chart, high hockey IQ as well as a solid offensive game with a great really and good speed and hands. He's a natural leader, was an assistant in Carolina at 21 years old, won a U20 Gold medal as an assistant with Team Canada, as well as being an assistant with Red Deer when he was in junior, a big leader of this team. He's a real shutdown center, having him down the middle as our 3C behing Couture and Stepan is the perfect fit for us''.

''Beau (Bennett) is a young top 6 RW who's got got very good upside. He has decent size, and is a great offensiver player. Very high hockey IQ, with very solid vision, hands and shot. Great assets to have on the power play, is a very solid two-way player as well''.

''J-S (Dea) is one of the best offensive player in the Q. He's got great hockey IQ, a great and very accurate release, with solid vision, hands and speed. He's a guy with character and work-ethic, never stop working after not being Drafted in his first year of eligibility, has a great season in the Q, then great camps in Pittsburgh and sign his ELC deal. We like player with his work-ethic and mentallity. We very like his upside''.

''Brian (Dumoulin) is a very underrated D prospect. He was overshadow in Pittsburh because of their big D prospect names like Maatta, Despres, Pouliot, etc., but he's a legit top 4 defenseman prospect. He's got great size, a freak in the gym and a tank on the ice, has high hockey IQ, skates very well, moves his puck very well and a very solid shot from the point. Had a great season in the A last year, we love his upside, he's NHl ready and will compete for a spot in tranning camp''.

''M-A (Fleury) needed a change of scenary. Has one year left on his contract, will get a change to get his game back. We believe he can get back to his old self with us, he was an elite goaltender in this league and a Stanley Cup winner. he has the character and work-ethic to reboud. He can be a really solid acquisiton for us and be our starter for years. Good luck to Patrick and Antti in Pittsburgh''.

We are sad to see so many guys go but excited to acquire Partick Marleau, Antti Niemi and another pick in the 2015 draft. Marleau is an elite two-way winger who will play an important role in the Pens offense. Moving Fleury for Niemi is an upgrade too. Niemi is on an excellent contract and a top-10 goalie in the league. He is reliable during the regular season and playoffs and we are excited to add him to the team. Thanks to OMJHLFollower for the smooth negotiations.

--------------------------------

Another deal pending league approval. Hopefully there will be an announcement within the next 24 hours. That being said, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang are very much still in play. The only way we'll move Malkin is if an establish top-6 playmaking centre is coming back along with a top-9 youngster with top-6 potential. That is just the base of a deal I'm looking for if Malkin were to move. Letang is on a similar boat as Malkin. In any deal, we must have a top-6 defender apart of the deal who has top-4, possible top-2 potential.

PM me if you have something in mind.

To Sabres:

Nikita kucherov
Adam Erne
TB 2014 2nd (#50)
Ufa rights to Ryan Callahan

To Lightning:

Tyler Myers

A lot of people won't like this trade on paper (esp the 2 other teams that made very similar offers) but BUF has strong D prospects coming up...what we didn't have is a game-breaking W prospect. Kucherov has 1st line potential and could be a star very soon. Erne also is a W prospect I'm strong on (good future 2nd line guy) and #50 will be used for another Top6 calibre F. So we plugged our biggest hole by moving a major piece, but an expendable one. Plus we get an early shot at Callahan, whom we like our chances at making a big offer to (we'll have tto to reach the floor)

Great round of negotiations with IR (tho sadly he knows my style too well...)

Looking for a top-line winger and top-4 defenseman, we don't need to make many changes but we will if it's the right move.

Mike Richards, Dustin Brown, Jarret Stoll are some of the pieces I've got available. Only Kopitar, Doughty and Quick are untouchable. I'll listen to all offers.

We believe the John Gibson hype. The kid has looked tremendous in every league he's been a part of. He's a guy who rises to the occasion, and has franchise potential. We think he will fully establish himself as a top netminder in the very near future.

Emerson Etem up is another kid we are extremely high on. He's got great wheels, and terrific offensive upside. He will be an excellent fit in our forward group for years to come.

Bryan Allen provides good size and leadership, and is a warm NHL body for a year. He could be dealt if teams could use him.

We are also happy to add an additional 1st and 2nd this year, to add to our 9th overall pick.

We thank Anaheim for the tremendous trade talks, and wish Dusty and Bryan luck in sunny California.

Talks heating up for Tyutin got a few offers I'm considering but he's still very much available.

Umberger retained and Calvert are also still OTB

We've decided to put Jack Johnson out there to see what people would offer.

Our main need is a top 6 RW, top 4RHD and NHL ready youth in either of those position. Could also be interested in picks

Confirmed.

We saw the opportunity to really diversify this team by moving out some younger assets, which we have plenty of. This trade brings in one of the leagues most underrated forwards in Bryan Little and big Dustin Byfuglien, who will return to defense with a great partner in Francois Beauchemin.

Happy to have done this while retaining the highly valued 10th Overall pick in this draft which we will likely use to recoup some of the loss of these young assets.

Still have lots of pieces that we are discussing

Guys like Andrew Ladd, Blake Wheeler, Tobias Enstrom, Ondrej Pavelec, Michael Frolik, Mark Stuart and others OTB for young NHLers, top prospects and 1st round draft picks.

After recently acquiring John Gibson, we are also shopping young goaltending prospects: Eric Comrie and Connor Hellebuyck for a young forward of equal potential.

Also looking to package the 9th overall and 24th overall to move up in the draft.

Currently in discussions of moving Charlie Coyle, nobody is untouchable per se, however if you can't imagine them being traded I'm probably not going to trade them.

Looking for a #1 goaltender and a top 4 defensemen currently.

It's been a busy 24-hours in Pittsburgh, seeing so many players leave while welcoming so few. Here is an update on how we will be approaching the trade market.

Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin are still in play. The chances of Letang being dealt is much higher than Malkin. There are no intimate offers as of now, but we hope and expect some talks to start soon.

In any deal involving Letang, a 1st round pick in this years draft as well as a young defender with top-4 potential must be apart of the deal. That is not the package I'm looking for but the base of any deal with other pieces to be added. Letang is a top-pairing defender and the fact he is RHD makes it a bonus.

In any deal involving Malkin, well be prepared to pay up as the price won't be cheap. All offers must contain a 1st round pick in this years draft, a top 6 centre (below the age of 30; preferably a PLY), a top 9 winger or top 4 defender (below the age of 30) as well as additional pieces, depending on what you're offering. The likely hood of Malkin being dealt isn't high unless there is an offer that I can't refuse. I'm happy with running a Marleau-Malkin duo on my 2nd line.

PM me if you have any thoughts or ideas on a possible deal. My remaining prospects, except Despres are still available (I don't see Harrington being moved unless it is in a deal for immediate help).

Obviously it was incredibly tough to move the face of the Washington Capitlas and one of the best players in the league, but with the lack of success during his time here we felt it was time to move on. This sets us up incredibly well for the future with four 1st round picks in the next two years, a replacement top line winger in James Neal, and, with the addition of Derek Pouliot and Olli Maatta, we will have an incredibly talented blue line to build around with John Carlson, Karl Alzner, Dmitry Orlov, Derek Pouliot and Olli Maatta.

We are now shopping a package of Mike Green and Marcus Johansson for an upgrade on Johansson up front. We are not interested in anyone over the age of 28.
