But he is waiver exempt, correct?

Good question. Since he was signed a little older, I'm not sure how that one works. From listening to CBJ Brass, it sounds like he's expected to have a spot. He doesn't have the grit Calvert has, however, he's bigger, as fast and can kill penalties. Might...might make Calvert expendable as the season moves on.

Personally, I also think Milano makes a push for 4th line duty with PP time - kind of like Gagner but learning the game rather than settling in as a specialist.

Now we'll need to sort out the potential log jam on D.

Jones
Werenski
Johnson
Savard
Murray
Nutivaara
Carlsson
Gavrikov
Harrington

Surely someone gets moved? Although it's possible Carlsson and Gavrikov could play in the AHL to season as we work of JJ's last year on his contract. See what Nuti brings this year and if Murray moves back up the ladder...

As the biggest Murray fan on this board, my gut tells me his name is being floated around. 23 year old recent 2nd overall pick defensemen rarely come available. Injuries aside I think he could still be a strong top-3 guy on a lot of teams. He's replaceable for us and we need forwards, seems like an easy puzzle to piece together.

Interesting take, you may be onto something here.

2019 2nd round pick - in the 60's, as IN SCF, is not that valuable an asset. LOL. 2nd rounds can be, but the timing of the picks is beautifully constructed.!

I see no reason to shop Murray.

You are not the only Murray fan. Either he is big bait for trade or we keep him w big progression coming. Either way he is valuable asset. I'd prefer he stay, but if he's the key to the needed offensive add, I get it.

I love Ryan Murray & I think he is totally underappreciated.. I wouldn't give him away, somebody will have to pay dearly for him. He made Nutti be able to play loose.. let him attack and for the most part Murray covered nicely.

McPhee didn't take Karl Alzner? what gives? Didn't take Bobby Ryan from the Sens.. though I love Marc Methot. Class player right there

Putting Milano on the 4th line is like putting a corvette into a monster truck rally. Wrong tool for the job. If Milano can't break the top 9, he should probably be moved out.

If they're still there on opening night, they can be valuable veterans on a pretty young squad. And if they're a bad team next year they can be trade pieces for draft picks at the deadline. Works out well for them imo.

They're not really a young squad. A couple 21 year olds, one 22 and five 23 year olds. The team is close to average age of 28, but with nothing in prospect line yet. They might end up being cbj 2.0.

They have enough talent/veterans to be competitive next couple years, but I doubt good enough for playoffs. But not bad enough to get some good top 5 draft picks. I think they may be better than 6-8 current teams this year, but not better than 8 western conference teams for a playoff spot. Then those old guys retire in a couple years, before they have a pipeline.

I didn't analyze the list of who was available and some guys probably get flipped. Just wouldn't have guessed they'd come out of expansion draft with a third of their team in their 30's.

Let me see if I got this straight:

Bob wins Vezina
Torts wins Jack Adams
Vegas gets Clarkson, our 1st and 2nd this year in a trade and Karlsson in the Expansion Draft

Did I miss anything?

Also, is the Awards/Expansion Draft show worth watching if the NBC Sports app has it on demand?

Pretty much, Foligno did win a couple of awards last night as well.

To answer your last question: no. It was brutally long and full of obnoxious jokes and fluff.

I think Jarmo did an admirable job navigating the expansion draft.

Agreed; this could have been a lot worse, and I think that the 1st and 2nd just to be free of Clarkson by himself was an underpayment of sorts. To then also have the consideration of passing on Anderson, Johnson, and Korpisalo is simply outstanding.

Yep, I laid out what I was hoping and tonight ticked all of the boxes.

Hopefully now Jarmo can make something happen.

Seems to be the best case scenario. My biggest concern is if this will have any affect on Wennberg mentally. He and Bill were obviously close.

It's one of those things where it's like "well if he can't get over something like that then he shouldn't be in this league", and yeah I get that and certainly believe that he should be a pro and move on, but Wennberg is a crucial player for us and we want him to take some steps forward this year.

Maybe I'm just being paranoid

Clearly it didn't work for Gagner either. 4th line isn't a stigma any more. It's a place a lot of players break in. Third line works too depending on team makeup. Pint was he could challenge for a roster spot and 4th line offers protection. PLD cou ld start there as well as an option. Doesn't mean either ends up there.

This seems like a perspective that's in the process of becoming outdated. Yes, someone has to defend, but playing on the fourth line means whatever your roster and system says it means, and it has more to do with TOI than skill-set anymore.

That said, I don't see Milano making the team out of camp this year, but lord knows I've been wrong before.

As of this morning, the CBJ have $62.04M in cap committed to the team. They have $12.94M of cap space available with Anderson and Wennberg to sign, and a decision to make on Gagner.

That does not take into consideration PLD, Bjorkstrand, or Milano making the team, or buying Hartnell out.

This is sort of where I am at on Murray. I think if he plays with a more stay at home solid D man, he has a season that would look a lot different then the one that he had.

Hard to factor Gavrikov into anything when he hasn't even committed to coming over here and playing.. or at least thats the last Portzline reported on May 28th.

Bobby Ryan is on a terrible contract, 7.5 mil a year.. had a good playoff run but was absent at times for the Sens regular season.
