best one ever

I still cannot believe that this was not called.

What the **** was Clowe thinking anyway?

What compels someone to do that at that very moment. He knows that 99% of the time he's getting a penalty. He just did the dumbest thing possible at the right time.

Scotty Bowman allegedly had the opposing locker room painted during the 1996 and 1997 playoffs. For consecutive years Blues players noticed that their locker room at Joe Louis Arena reeked of fresh paint before game 5. In the past two playoffs, the Blues found their locker room reeking of fresh paint. Before and during Game 1 in Detroit last year, the dressing room thermostat was either stuck on hot or cold, depending on what the Blues didn't want.
In the late 90s the Avalanche used a shorter bench on the visitors side to the point where players were uncomfortably jammed together. So the Wings had a small bench made, like 3 feet or so, and brought it with them and put it on the end of the normal bench so their players could have a little more room.

Never heard that before. That's just brilliant gamesmanship.

It's a minor thing but when Henrik sedin was waved out of a faceoff, he and Daniel would spin around each other a couple of times pretending to strategize. Henrik would then take the faceoff anyway with the linesman thinking it was Daniel.

With the reports that the New England Patriots intentionally tampered with footballs in order to get an edge in play during a playoff game last year, it got me wondering if anything of the sort has happened in the NHL?

I know a few players have been caught using PEDs, but I'm thinking more along the lines of intentionally modifying the puck, the net, or their own equipment (either sticks, skates, or pads) to get an edge in play. Even better if there's an example of it happening in a playoff game.

What the Patriots are accused of is the same as having too much stick curve aka a 2min minor

alright let me explain, your on defense, the offense on another team is using their footballs, footballs only one team uses ( the other team does not use these footballs for offense) how are they gonna know if the patriots are using illegal footballs unless they somehow get their hands on a football? they cant call someone out for a slightly underdeflated football unless the feel it. sticks are easy to see based off curves

An interception? A fumble? even picking up a dead ball on the field for one of many reasons. How do you think the Pats were caught in the first place?

Fighters used to modify their sleeves. Some wore really tight ones that couldn't be gripped. Others wore them so loos that holding them didn't stop them from swinging.

I don't think it was against the rules until the rules were changed in response.

Deflate gate is more like painting the crease a little smaller in the away zone, or moving the blue lines a bit (which of course would backfire ine period per game).

Has any team ever made the visitor bench different than the home bench as far as being more crowded or having the bench garther back or something?

Kane faking an injury that just so happens to keep him out until the day the playoffs start so that they Hawks could have wiggle room to add players at the deadline. :sarcasm:

On a different note I'd be curious as to what the PED use rate is among NHL players. They say nobody has been caught but given what we've seen from other sports, I find it hard to believe that every NHLer is squeaky clean.

I know there have been instances of teams not keeping pucks frozen properly in non-NHL leagues, so I assume it's happened in some NHL rinks too, with the prevalence of trapping.

I know it's OT, but to answer your question just on the facts, a Brady pass was intercepted, which led to a Colts player going to the coach and saying the ball was under inflated. Otherwise, you are correct, no one would know.

Getting back to hockey, I would say penalties are what they are, but goalies who slyly kick the net off the posts and know the refs aren't gonna call it because they're real good at it really tick me off.

Nope

During the first half of the AFC Championship Game, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady threw an interception to Colts linebacker D'Qwell Jackson. After the play was over, Jackson handed the ball to the Colts equipment manager for safekeeping as a souvenir. Early reports suggested that Jackson was the first to suspect the ball was under-inflated, but Jackson said he did not notice anything wrong with the ball he caught.[9] Jackson says he actually did not even know the ball was taken or that the controversy existed until he was being driven home from the team's charter plane after the Colts had arrived in Indianapolis."I wouldn't know how that could even be an advantage or a disadvantage," Jackson said. "I definitely wouldn't be able to tell if one ball had less pressure than another."[10]

Illegal stick blade curve, size of goalie equipment, lots of little hidden grabs and holds on the stick or jersey to make it look like the opponent is actually hooking or grabbing.

Colin Campbell badgering refs over penalties called on his son's team. Coincidentally, involved another Boston team.

'Wayne Gretzky' Line change.

When a player comes off the ice during a change, the player he's switching for comes on at the OTHER side of the bench for a 24 foot head start.

Okay, the story has changed, but the point remains the other team had to get possession of said ball.

SandGate was never conclusively proven... but is the one that jumps to mind.

Pretty much all the Flyers team had to leave the bench to have their skates sharpened in that game, some a silly number of times before they put towels down.
