With the Sharks wanting to compete this season, they aren’t going to terminate his contract unless he is proven guilty or they have a cheap trade lined up for Tarasenko/Eichel.

Between this, bankruptcy, and the reports of being a locker room problem, no they don’t need to balk at moving on from him for competitive reasons. These things are all bad for business and for team cohesion.

Dude needs to go the Jack Johnson route. Declare bankruptcy. Get help. Sign a structured settlement to get everything back on track.

His career doesn't have to be over. Betting on games ain't the way out.

That's kind of what he's doing.

Jack Johnson tried to get out of debts by claiming his parents signed a bunch of stuff he didn't agree with to give him a better negotiating position in bankruptcy when coming up with a settlement.
Kane is trying to get out with some different arguments, regardless, this likely ends up in some sort of settlement

Does he have a gambling issue? Yes Did he bet on NHL games? We don't know. It's his wifes word against his. Let the NHL conduct an investigation and see what they find. The last five years we have gone from innocent until proven guilty, all the way to, just beleive any allegation and just assume that everyone is guilty.

The people scoffing at this because the accusations are coming from his "emotional ex" are kidding themselves.

No one is in a better position to know what he's up to than her.
It seems to me like this guy is in big big trouble. The most important part of her post, that has so far been completely overlooked, is her use of the word "bookies". This imo indicaties that he is potentially involved with organized crime.

He may be way further over his head than we know. His actions, ie abandoning his pregnant wife and 1 year old daughter to go on mysterious trips to europe, are classic behaviors of a gambler who has already lost it all and is acting erractically and desperately out of fear and shame.

Many will dismiss what im saying but ask yourself this: is it really that hard to beleive that a guy who is 26m in debt to casino's might also have millions in cash he owes that he'spaying 5 points a week on and BK/restructuring is not an option?

KHL owners are/can be very shady. Theres been some stories of them withholding or cutting pay on a whim for players, especially ones from here. They know theres nothing the player can do and they will have 0 legal trouble.

I dont even really care that much about the gambling. If what his wife is saying about leaving his family in the lurch is true, hes a genuine piece of shit and dug his own hole.

Yeah, I caught that too. I agree with you that there seems to be a shadier element to this than we knew about 2 months ago. My thinking is he ends up in the KHL.

1) Getting his contract terminated means he loses the liability that the casinos have since he guaranteed the bets on his contract. He can't ever file for true bankruptcy because the casinos essentially own his entire contract.

2) Bookies plus escaping to Europe. I agree, seems like he's in hiding right now. Safest place for him is Russia.

3) Facing jail time. I know a lot of guys his age would take the chances of making a few million over in Russia before coming back and facing the jail time.

I'd question his intelligence if he was actually betting on the Sharks to win....

Everywhere he’s played controversy follows as far as team issues go.
Personal issues aside he needs to grow up.
He’s always the victim and it’s always something.
What a waste of talent at the end of the day.
He’s a good player and the effort always seems to be there.
I hope this situation can be turned around but that’s entirely on him.

I’ve never known a spouse in the middle of a contentious divorce proceeding to make up anything, ever. The guy needs help, hockey should be secondary although it’s the only way he can earn to pay off all of his shady creditors.

How can he use the "I bet on my own team to win" excuse, when he plays for the Sharks? Unless maybe that's why he's bankrupt?

Hockey doesn't strike me as the kind of sport where one player, even one as prominent on the team as Kane, can decidedly influence the result with any degree of certainty. One player decides to suck on purpose but 18 other guys are playing to win.

Not to mention he just had like the best season of his career, so what is he doing, betting on his team to win and playing hard? Lmao
