Nice that you watched him in the ahl last year. His usage suggests he struggled defensively.

While he obviously was not good from what I saw at the nhl level he was not bad defensively either. I thought at 19 Bouchard looked slightly better than Schultz did at 22.

I also heard that Bouchard improved significantly defensively in his OHL season.

I think he has a high iq that "could" help him "eventually" become good in his own zone as well as potent offensively.

Honestly he needs work on D. I'd sooner let him get that work in the AHL than have his confidence taken to the woodshed at the NHL level. That said if he looks incredibly dynamic offensively and passable defensively he'll probably be up with the big club in a hurry.

There’s more than one way to develop a player.

Being sheltered in the NHL can be just as good as the AHL

The only issue with this is how do you expose the player to harder situation if they've never really deal with it at the pro level? It puts the player on a path to being a specialist at the NHL level, because it's the only role they can survive in.

I'm not saying that Bouchard needs to spend the entire year in Bakersfield. But I would prefer for him to start there and get 20+ minutes a night in all situations until at least American Thanksgiving or New Year's.

Put him in a situation where he can continue to refine his all-round game.
For me, I'm content letting Jones, Bear, and/or Persson can hold the fort offensively until he's ready.

Those guys are all 22 or older, and have shown well, it's as good a time as any to give them a shot.

Klefbom-Larsson
Nurse-Jones
Russell-Persson/Bear
Benning

Lagesson-Persson/Bear
Lowe-Bouchard
Samorukov-Day
Kulevich, Manning, Desharnais, Mantha(?)

I dislike not having a true 5th option for the top 4, but the depth chart looks decent beyond that.

He can hang in the NHL if he gets put in the right spot. You know hes an offensive dynamo, so play him in that usage. Dont expect him to be a good defensive player and make him rely on defensive ability to succeed in his first year

Developed 40+ Hockey theories.

First thing you have to do is identify who competes for championships.
To understand what wins championships.

40% more top GA teams make final 8 than top GF teams.
7 of every 8 final 4 teams are top ga teams.

You win championships by having 2.00 ga or less in your 4 series games won. For 3 series.
That makes you onebof the 2 teams that win championships each year.

Holland stated that he is happy with def depth.
But dmen need to learn the skill of attacking as a 4th and 5 th option without risking defence.

The number of times I have seen GA with Rovers like Klefbom, Nurse, Jones, Bear being the 4th or 5 th skater back is disgraceful.

You want 3F-2D-1G structure rather than 3F - 1R - 1D -1G
So you have a high % of 2D -1G defending in had area were shots go in 5 times more.
Rather than a 1D -1G def of HD area cause rovers have gone on a walkabout.

Lagesson had the 2nd best even production AHL season for D prospects since 05-06 season.
Behind Schultz 12-13 season who played with Hall, RNH, Eberle in AHL.

Of his 8 evg I saw video for 5 evg.
1 was targeted writer from point.
4 were uncovered Open High Danger sh as a 4 th option inside the circle with 0 Def risk.

Bouchard leads a lot of attack in junior.
Causing a lot of 3-1-1-1 Def structure.
But with median goal tending being sub .895 in CHL it is not as big an issue as the NHL median was .918.

Their has been a huge push for 3-1-1-1 structure and reduced goalie equipment size.
We have seen a drop of median sAve % from.918 to .912 in last 3 seasons.
If it was equipment based all goalies would have seen a drop in save%

But top goalies have seen an increase in save % range
.924 to .932 in 16-17
.927 to .935 in 18-19

Their are more high% 3-1-1-1 structure teams.
So some are going to play in playoffs but most are one of the first 8 out.
All are gone by the final 4.

Evan Bouchard has a high rate of 3-1-1-1 structure.

But a lot of his even production success comes from targeted point wrist shots and 4th/5th option uncovered open High danger shots from inside the circle which are all low risk to HD area transition attack.

Holland prefers his 35+gm NHL debut seasons to be age 23-23 from forward and defencemen.
He stated Dmen can be NHL ready at age 22-24.

Bouchard needs 1+ seasons in AHL to learn to attack without def risk.
Which Holland stated he wanted.

We were a top GA team in 16-17 with 212GA with high % 3-2-1 structure.

Then PC and Tmac followed the 3-1-1-1 push.
No playoffs
If we were had 3-2-1 212Ga team we make playoffs in 17-18 & 18-19.

Jones
Bouchard
Berglund
Broberg

Will get to learn low risk attack.
Likely getting a lot of D partnering in Bakersfield and Skelleftea.

Music to my ears.

Wrong poster

As for speedyturtle.. if it is the person a bunch of us suspect...we had it down to 3 people in the oiler organisation.. the one who a few of us (we went to a chatroom to figure it out) agreed was the logical choice passed away about 6 months after turtles last post A few thought it was stauffer but stauffer would have posted it on twitter. The third person was a scout who left the organisation about 18 months ago.

Just to clarify. My first choice was the turtle was a former poster named Igor, but turns out he just got tired of this place

Im absolutely torn on this, I love Bouchard and think he will put up points and look ok on the defensive end if hes given the right minutes. But then I feel that we really really need his contract to slide. 4 years of elc would be just what the doctor ordered.

The way i would split his 9 games would be simple. Injuries, long breaks in the ahl schedule ( call him up and earn some nhl money) and maybe play one game while hes up. By the end of the year he would have 9 or less games played in the NHL and the rest in the ahl, meaning he would still have 3 years of elc left

I agree but he needs to be at least passable defensively because we would put him out on the ice a lot.

I disagree about the elc. Get it out of the way ASAP. The longer it goes, the bigger the next contracts AAV will be. That matters more

Any time there's a player who looks like they could be a top AHL rookie there's a certain amount of people who don't want that...they want to push the player to the NHL instead. "If he can be a 55+ point player in the AHL then why not have him in the NHL?" He's starting the season as a 19-year-old, and a defenseman. He should be in the minors...there's no harm in that.
