Scored a nice goal to go along with 3 assists tonight.

A man against boys

First in the OHL for ppg among defensemen.

Tied for 1st in the entire CHL.

Who is he tied with?

Josh Brook, who is a year older than him.

Technically only 4 months. Both have also played the same amount of years in the CHL too. That said this offense is new for Brook

Bet he won't be able to do that on Brent Burns or Doughty. That is junior stuff that won't fly in the NHL.

Lots of crap D in the NHL still, look at our team :) Don't play against Burns and Doughty every night. In any case, it's a talented kid seeing weakness and opening and taking advantage. No denying he has great offensive skills, and he continues to wreck the OHL, highest PPG among OHL D, despite his terrible lack of pace.

I wouldn't mind if he played 20-25 NHL games next year though. Being in Bakersfield doesn't necessarily mean you have to be stapled there.

Part of the good thing about having a player of AHL eligibility is you can send them down whenever they look overwhelmed, no big deal.

Burns shouldn't be used as an example of a good defensive defenseman. He's trash in his own end.

Agreed. I hope he plays in the AHL most of the year but I will be pleased if he earns some time in the NHL as well. The new creed needs to be patience and MERIT

I know he can score. I'm more impressed with the goal differential and from what I've read sounds like he's more involved on D than before.

Still should go to Bakersfield next year though.

Not me.

I do want him to of course play D, but I want the goals, set ups, points, break outs, PP QB, etc. We haven't had that here forever.

Bouch will be in tough to get some NHL time next season, competing with Bear and Persson for the same role. Persson probably gets the first crack.

I don't care if he scores in every pre-season game next year. Keep him in Bakersfield for a while, at least at the start of the year and don't call him up until he's dominating. I will be so pissed if they f*** around with his development like they did Puljujarvi.

Personally, I'd actually like him to start the season with the Oilers (provided he earns a spot) and then is sent down at the 9 game mark (or does that no longer apply as a 2nd year player?)

I want him in Bako next year. No point in playing him in limited minutes in what will be a losing season.

Make him Bako's 1d and give him the whole season down there.

I mean that part of his game is a given. Was glad to read he was improving his weaknesses.

I agree. Benning is a solid 3RD. Bear and Persson have two pro seasons. Jones may even win the job amongst those guys. We have options, use them. No need to rush Bouchard... good things are happening in Bakersfield, I think it'd be a good experience for him, less pressure, not in the 'Edmonton fishtank'.

3 players are probably going to be ahead of him on the depth chart (good thing to finally have) in Bear/Jones/Persson so there is really no need to rush him considering all 3 of the players mentioned offer similar skill sets.

Nope. No more sliding.

Are you saying he doesn't qualify for another slide year or are you saying you are against another slide year ?

Personally I am down with him spending the entire season in Bakersfield and seeing Bear or Persson get a long look up here.

The thing about Bouchard is I don't see a ton of upside. Overall game is week. but.......... I think people sell a pp specialist short. We could use a pp guy. I think he is everything we really need right now.

He will be an oiler next year, be fun to watch.

Just saying he doesn't qualify.

Starting in Bako unless he blows the doors off camp would be a good idea, I think.

A PP specialist is selling him short. His offensive game at even strength is also great.

I see John Carlson level upside for him.

Agreed. Stick with Gretzky's new plan of letting prospects overripen in the minors so when they do get to the NHL, they're ready.
Was that his plan? This is new to me. When did he say that? Nevertheless, that plan is changing once the new GM is hired.
