- Benning drones come out of the woodwork saying look what a solid defender he is, worth his contract, wait til the playoffs!

The worst part is, Sbisa actually seemed like a decent person and honest guy. There is nothing about Guds I like. Sbisa actually didn’t have to play fake tough guy and fought when he had to.

Blake Wheeler - a player who has been one of the top wingers in the game over the past few seasons - beat him to the net for a goal. Therefore he must be terrible? Which other goals against were Gudbranson's fault? Time and again it becomes obvious that fans don't know how to evaluate defensemen reasonably. Make a mistake that leads to a goal and you're automatically labelled trash. By that standard there are a lot of trash defensemen in the league or maybe, just maybe, you need to get a clue.

Oh and the fact that plus minus is being used to paint Guddy as a bad defenseman is just hilarious. Remember when Bo Horvat was a -30? Remember when Alex Edler was a -40? It didn't make them bad players then so why does it for Gudbranson now? It's just a lazy criticism through and through. Everyone should know by now that plus minus is useless.

I was going to mention that the guy has barely played over 400 games at the NHL level. Cut the guy some slack already!

No you cut bait. They chose to be stuck with him with the extension and every day he is on the roster they are making that choice again.

Let’s go with the just coach him angle. Let’s ignore he’s had several coaches and the same coaches are doing fine with Hutton and Stecher. If you coach him and he gets better how much better can he get? If you subscribe to later development for D-men that’s fine but it still means he’s within 5-10% of his peak performance. So coach him up. He will still suck.

Ignoring the whole Wheeler not scoring thing, this is actually a reasonable stance... just not with Gudbranson because those mistakes happen each game, sometimes on a shift by shift basis when he’s on fire.
