Fowler to miss 2 to 3 months. How much is that going to hurt?
It will suck to have him gone. For sure. Hopefully other guys step up with the extra ice time
Thought Erie battled today. Just tough to get a win against a top team regardless of how we play.
As for all the London fans hating on the sweet Caroline or rival aspect.. reality is that from 2002-03 season to 2017-18 season.. Erie missed the playoffs 7 out of 16 seasons.
The 9 years they made the playoffs? Erie faced London 5 times
2004, London won 4-0
2009, London won 4-1
2015, Erie won 4-0
2016, London won 4-0
2017, Erie won 4-3
So 5 out of 9 years for the playoffs for Erie they have played London. 3 years straight in the midst of their run. Additionally, they only played 20 rounds of playoffs in those 16 years.. 5 against London.
Yes sorry to burst your bubble of greatness and existing rivals but to Erie fans.. of course we hate the team. Most fans do for other reasons (won’t get into that) and for your on ice success. You have existing rivals because you are, as a Canadian team, just a few short miles from some teams. And you have been in the OHL much, much longer than the Otters. Erie is still “newer” to this league when looking at perspective. We aren’t going to consider Eastern teams rivals since we don’t play them as much or don’t see them in the playoffs.
I think most Erie fans once considered Plymouth a rival. Some great games over the years with them. I remember the fans hating the Whalers team. But now they are Flint.. and Flint has not been a well respected organization/opponent. The other American team, Saginaw, has also had slumps. That really just leaves our “division” opponents.. and hate to rain on your parade but Erie has their most history with London. From the recent 3 year playoff run, the bench brawl game of 2009, and many more close reg season battles
Sweet Caroline has been a staple at home games for 5+ years. Every single game it’s played. Hell it might be going on 10+ years of using it at EVERY home game. During the 2015-16 season, the chant with extra lyrics were added. It stuck for the heated series of 2016-17. It’s never going away. Erie fans won’t forgot those lyrics and that song will be played at every single home game. It’s not just pulled out for games vs you like its a special occassion. Basically - get used to it. Don’t be suprised by it every time. It’s not going away.
Again, understand our history before attempting to feel like we have no business seeing London as a rival. News flash: most fans don’t like that organization. Erie in the last few years has more history and heated battles with London than majority of the league
