This goaltender just had to play until the Oiler defence screwed up a couple times, but is pretty solid otherwise

This is largely a personnel issue. Too many soft players who get outworked too often and rely on McDavid to carry them on his back. McDavid is so far beyond anyone else in this league that he can often do it. But there at saturation point and the boat is leaking.

Following this game will be Woodcroft's most vital coaching work. If they can't regroup and find a win this could really unspool for a young, first time NHL coach.
It’s already unspooling.

Holland settled on certain parts of the roster and it will cost him and potentially his coach.

Louie this isn't a time for "oh we lost be at least we tried hard" remarks. The Oilers need to start winning and fast. Cuz our season could be over before the end of the month

So much wrong with this team. Lines make no sense. Defense pairings make no sense. Ceci-Nurse haven’t worked since the playoffs

Nah. McDavid's carried the world on his shoulders from a very young age. He's always been a leader and respected for his give a shit meter, skill and on-ice no quit. This organization that's got so very little right over a decade+ rebuild(s) probably made him captain too young. But again McDavid never shirks a challenge. The issue is the minimal ability of everyone else, poor depth and gaping holes like their soft platoon defense corp.

It’s just constant excuses for the boys. This same soft roster was dominant most of last season.

What’s changed?

Smith out, Keith out, Kane injured. That’s the difference?

You and I both agree it’s a flawed roster, but those guys out is enough to make it absolute dog water and lack of effort? I don’t buy it as much as these guys don’t buy into a coach’s system for more than a season at best

We should have won this based on shots and Woodcroft will say something like "we had all the chances and couldn't find the back of the net against a lights out goaltender..."

And like f***.. that is going to happen... But if they keep losing there's not even going to be wiggle room for when a goalie plays this well against us.
