Maybe I am reading this wrong but Capfriendly states:

Gagner: $3.15M (this season) & $3.15M (next season)... Pretty sure earlier it had Gagner a littler over $2.1M-ish x 2 yrs?

Spooner: $2.08M (this season) & $2.03M (next season)... Think this should be around $3M too though?

Gagner: Cap hit, 2 years - $3,150,000, $3,150,000
Gagner: Salary owed, 2 years - $3,500,000, $3,200,000

Spooner: Cap hit, 2 years - $4,000,[email protected]% retained=$3,100,000, $4,000,[email protected]% retained=$3,100,000
Spooner:Salary owed, 2 years - $4,000,[email protected]% retained=$3,100,000, $4,000,[email protected]% retained=$3,100,000

Edmonton takes on (marginally) more caphit and more salary, but get a guy they feel can play in the NHL/is worth trying in the NHL/can add more to their AHL if he doesn't work/moves on from a player that didn't work out there

Vancouver saves (marginally) on cap and pays less salary, and doesn't have to pay a player to play on loan elsewhere

Always like Gagner kind of cool to have him back. Even happier to see Spooner go that trade Chia made Strome for Spooner was an attempt to hit rock bottom he was already there busting drill bits pick axes and shovels trying to get deeper. Ef you Chiarelli glad you are gone

Gagner has always been good playing top 6 and pp put up good numbers everywhere . problem when he drop down in line up . if he still as his speed he will be with mcd can do everything playmaking shoot pass . great pick up for oilers

-Marlies lose a decent AHLer. Trade sucks for them.
-Canucks lose nothing, and gain nothing.
-Oilers gain a warm body that can't skate at an NHL level anymore. They are in even worse shape than I thought, if Gagner is one of their 12 best forwards. You really think Gagner has forgot about the Kassian stick-swinging/face-breaking incident? What are they thinking? Are they trying to poison their locker room?? lol
-Comets add a decent AHLer. If there is a winner in this deal, it's Utica.

Don't like this deal for the Canucks. Spooner is so ineffective it seems unless he is in the totally ideal situation (on a deep team with defensive insulation).

Gagner is just as good offensively and while not a great 2-way player, is cheaper and less of a liability if he isn't producing offense.
