Seems like a lot of money for a bridge deal?

40pt Dman with almost no PP time. Hard nosed, great skater, and still young.

5.6M is a good bridge. Long term it would be $7M or at least $6.5M like other recent signings.

He's a good player I just don't understand the point of a bridge deal worth almost 6 million per from the Oilers perspective.

Wouldn't you just go 900k higher then, to lock him up for longer? And if it was market value you could always get out of it in two years anyway with a trade.

Because they want the million or so in cap flexibility.

Nobody is worried about losing Darnell to UFA. He wants to stay. He's tight with Connor in particular. All of their cap bloat, except James Neal, is off the books in 2022-2023.

Because it's a million or so less than his market value, which is pretty much exactly set by Josh Morrissey and Esa Lindell (Lindell makes 5.8, but in a low tax state).

This is his second bridge deal in a row. He's not signing a show me deal: He's shown them. He's signing a small discount on a short term to set himself up for a bigger contract and allow the Oilers to have a bit of extra cap flexibility in a summer where they'll need all they can get.

How's a 2 years deal at 5.6M AAV that walks Nurse to UFA a good deal for the Oilers? Are you guys on drugs?
For a guy like Nurse a 6x6M AAV would have been a good deal, but 2 years for that much while walking the player to UFA isn't good.

RNH extension. Off-season improvements in 2020/21. If you're talking about $2m-$2.5m, that's a decent chunk of the cap.

It's interesting as it carries him to UFA, but is this going to cost them anything significant on his next deal? Two years from now the Oilers may have reinforcements as well with Broberg, Samorukov and Jones.

That seems like a real good deal for the Oilers.
That takes him right to UFA at age 27, earliest he could possibly hit it at age 27? Good for Nurse.

Trouba got $5.5 in arbitration on a 1 year deal (with the same amount of NHL seasons that Nurse has (5)).

Reasonable EDM fans, how do you think this deal is?

5.5M on a bridge for a D like Nurse seems high. Has been been good this year?
