If the Norris were awarded to the true best defensive defenseman then yes Severson would be my pick so far. Alas, we know it doesn't work like that.

Makar has the insane metrics plus provides the offense.

Well to be fair I did say Makar should win. I think he's the easy pick at the moment.

Doughty plays against some of the worst offensive teams in the NHL on a regular basis. If we want to talk about how the North plays 0 defence and the offensive players should get an asterisk then let’s talk about a division where you could combine 4 teams top 6 forwards and probably not even come out with 1 that make another teams top line

Hedman and Makar seem to be clearly ahead of the pack, I think Doughty is getting overrated but he is likely 3rd atm. I like Nurse in the top 5 atleast

Today I learned Doughty plays in a different division than Makar, who you listed as a favorite. Apparently playing in the west doesn't penalize Makar's chances?

Its too bad that they dont take into account the little things that defensemen do to keep the puck out of their net. Voting seems to be based on point production which is not always a tell all as to who the best d man is. Look at ek winning it twice. Dudes a mess in his own zone. It's the eastern bias media kicking in on this one.

I know it's going t bother a lot of people, but Quinn Hughes will be a finalist at a minimum.

I cant see this. He is a fantastic offensive dman but he needs some serious development in his own end. To say it politely.

I have no idea if he can keep it up, but if he does, Jeff Petry is in the mix as he has pretty clearly established himself as the best D on the habs.
will he win if he does keep it up ? probably not.

Pfft. EK got a Norrris robbed from him by Drew, so go away with your “east coast bias”-charade

Let's see if the Habs resume their first ten game production.....and then let me know who is going to win the Norris.

The Habs have fallen off the offensive rails in the last ten games and Petry is still top 4.

Makar averages a minute of SH toi/game. He's fed a ton of EV and PP time.

This "plays in all situations" stuff should probably chill until he's not the third option to go over the boards for his handedness.

So many wrong things here, and who cares about 57 second more on the PK per game?

Makar has the insane metrics plus provides the offense.

But he does have the easiest role compared to guys like Severson, Hedman, and McAvoy. Hell, Ty Smith has a harder role if you go by that same breakdown in that picture.

Nurse is leading all defensman in the league in even strength scoring and plus minus (+15). He plays against other teams best players and is our top PK guy. 16 points in 22 games, physical, skates like a thoroughbred and has been a huge reason for the Oilers winning 11 of their last 13 games. Huge part of the teams leadership as well.

Deserves to at least be in the convo thus far.

He better have a high +/- with McDavid and Draisaitl as teammates.
