Hello, it’s been a minute since i’ve last been on this article but here’s my most recent 1st round rankings for the qmjhl draft held in Sherbrooke for 2020:

1: James swan
2:Michael La Starza
3: Ryan Hopkins
4:Tristian Luneau
5:Jake Furlong
6:Noah Warren
7:Leighton Carruthers
8:David Goyette
9:Alpha Barry
10:Markus Vidicek
11:Antonin Verreault
12:Bryson Currie
13:Aidan McLeod
14:Charles-Edward Gravel
15:Emanuelson Charbonneau
16:Pier-Oliver Roy
17:Jordan Dumais
18:Cameron MacLean
19:Joey Vetrano
20:Sam Oliver
21:Liam Marshall

Here's my analysis:

1.Luneau
2. Warren
3. Gravel if he's coming back
4. Carruthers
5. Hinkley
6. LaStarza
7. Mastrodominico
8. Fontaine
9. Dumais
10.Vidicek
11. Charbonneau
12. Patella
13. Lamoureux
14.Furlong
15.Roy
16.Ramsey
17. MacClean
18. Rozzi

Questinnable top prospect: Swan is definitely a 1st round, but need to watch him after is recovery, Barry is not an impact player like swan, but will see after is recovery (late 1st to mid 2nd). Goyette is listed in Ontario.

My mistake. Côté from Grenadier should be listed as a 1st round. This kid can score, is fast, grit, physical for is size. Most improved since 2 years

List of players from Quebec, by Regional Structure, who might get drafted in the first 5-6 rounds next summer.

I didn't include a few players that were not in Quebec last year (Gravel, Lamoureux, Goyette, Lastarza, Okitundu). Players are not listed in order.

WARNING: I may have forgotten some players. I apologize in advance! Also, late bloomers may appear on the radar this season as we are still far away from Draft Day.

Many other players should be drafted a bit later in rounds 7-14 or earlier since many teams may have a different list than the one I suggest today.

In June 2019, 65 players from Quebec were drafted in first 5 rounds, the current list has 65 players.

Not an easy task to identify 65 players. In fact, it's not difficult to predict the top 30 players. The 31-65 category presents a bigger challenge since you need to predict the development potential. Those who will be able to combine, skills, IQ and grit. Most of the top 20 have the three criteria. The rest have a combination but the not the package.

But Draft Day means nothing until the player gets a spot in a Q's lineup. The next 4-5 years will show who's going to reach the next level? That's the only question.

Any truth to the Gatorade becoming a showcase for the top 120 ranked players and no longer having 2 Quebec teams and 4 Atlantic province teams?

Draft 6 teams out of those players,
This would be very interesting

Sur la liste du Camp de développement des moins de 16 ans, où est Swan?
Autre point, je constate que les joueurs qui étaient ou seront à l'extérieur du Québec sont invités. Dans ce contexte, où est Gravel?

Swan is still hurt I think. For Gravel he plays in Ontario. There is Loshing who is not on the list because he would have refused HQ invitation.

I attended three games at the HQ U16 development camp last week in Châteauguay. Several players have confirmed their status as leading players. In the defense Luneau, Warren and Charbonneau are clearly the top 3 of 2004. Attacking Justin Côté was impressive and by far the best followed by Lastarza and Verreault. I also made some discoveries that I think have greatly impressed the many HQ scouts and executives. Patella, Labbé and Gagnon are my favorites of the week. Patella is a complete player who is physically imposing and who is excellent along the walls. Labbé was a constant threat during the 3 games and showed us his box of tools which is well stocked. Gagnon is a smart player with an above average hockey IQ playing on 200 feet and he is excellent in puck protection. Special mention to Akkouche, Michel, Vetrano and Bolduc who had a good camp.

I also attended all games. Great selection by hockey Quebec. Luneau and Warren are excellent and dominant. Every players showed great thing.
Up front, Côté was the best forward by far. All the others forward where really good, fast and skilled.
Defence, they're big, fast and skilled.

Negative point of the camp, the lack of physicality.

Hockey has changed a lot and will continue to evolve. The focus is now on the stick on puck and play fast.

NHL playoffs where extremely physical
The NHL is the only professional league in the world that changes its rules in the playoffs. In the season the games are not physical and the game is fast. That's mainly why a team like Tampa was eliminated in the first round.

That's a terrible idea, just based on how effective the 'CSR' scouting function is across all the regions.

The fix for the Gatorade seems pretty simple to me - add a 3rd Quebec team. Then Quebec White or Blue wouldn't pound the rest of the teams and always be on top. The format does a good job of identifying the top players in each region, but Quebec needs 3 teams based on their population to level the field.

You could also put PEI and NL together to be honest.

Different ideas were being floated around. To say they’re terrible is unfair. Another option presented was to allow PEI and NL to bring undrafted 2003 born players to help strengthen their rosters and give these players another look.

That idea has merit. Similar to the way the northern teams for CWG get a set number of over agers.

PEI and NL face two different but similar challenges - PEI's population to draw from is much lower, but their players at least have access to many more rinks per capita and easier travel for competition. NL's problem is the population of hockey players is spread out coast to coast, and they virtually never get seen by junior level scouts except at the Monctonian and Icejam. The Adam Dawe's and Zach Dean's make out fine, but the bulk of kids that should be competiting with NS/NB/PEI kids as 4th/5th/6th round draft picks, especially the late developers, tend to get the short end of the stick because they are much less exposed to the decision makers come draft day.

I'm still with the Midget AAA starting the season and I've been to Trois-Rivières yesterday. I really liked one player from Estacades who nobody talks: Isaac Menard.

He still small, but he's really good in transition, really mobile, good hands, good puckmover and I really like his skating abilities. Great discory for me.

Menard's hockey sense might be the best in the draft. I don't remember seeing a 15 y/o defenseman having that much comfort on the ice at the start of the season in MAAA. May like him more than any defenseman not named Luneau.

My top 2 after two weekends are Verreault and Vidicek

Thanks for the input!

For Verreault, well, in my case it wasn't really a surprise. The only things that surprised me, it's how quick he adjusted to the Midget AAA

If not, I won't do a ranking 1 year before but...my 3 favorite are: Swan, Verreault & Luneau.

Like your ranking a lot. Not a big fan of E. Charbonneau but I can understand your point.

I agree with you, Vidicek is probably the better 2way player of this crop. I know him since aome, and he is a dream player for a coach. More, he looks to be a good kid
