Does anyone think that Torts screwed up DelZotto? and if handled differently, he might still be here?

Del Zotto had his best seasons under Torts, I don't recall any major issues with how he was handled. Del Zotto is just an inconsistent player and struggles with the ups and downs of being an NHL player - he gets overconfident when things are going well and gets too down on himself when he's struggling.

AV showed little patience for DZ and I would have preferred that he would have given DZ more of an opportunity over J. Moore, but in general I don't think coaching is responsible for DZ's faults as a player.

This was a great trade for atleast the next 2 years. You just witnessed a massive upgrade to the D. You build championship clubs from the net out. Moore was a 6-7 type dman and we just upgraded for a top pairing puck moving Dman. Duke will be a top 6 winger in this league capable of scoring 40 goals but don't we have plenty of depth on the wing already. Nash-Zucc-St.Louis-Krieder-Hagelin-Miller-Fast, not too mention Hayes and Lindberg also, plus Buchnevich who may be just as good or better than Duke. We gave up a first and second rounder but Sather has a track record of making up for those high picks. Duclaire was a 3rd, so was Buchnevich, Hayes was a steal and so was Zucc. This team will be lethal for the next few years. Goaltending - check, Solid and deep top 6 D - check, Deep, fast forward group with 4 solid lines - check. This is going to be fun.

Exactly - picks are great, but Sather has a great track record of getting equivalents through draft and free-agent college kids.

The reality is we had two major weaknesses for the playoffs - face-offs and a lousy power play, lousy because it lacked point presence. We just solved that one without losing a frontline player. How's that bad?

If true, the Rangers gave up one of the most promising offensive prospects they've had in quite a while, for a guy who is probably the best offensive D we've had since Leetch left. Massive trade. Clearly this team is pulling out all the stops to win this year, but man, does this ever make that Boyle signing look bad.

Boyle should have never been signed. Sather has been horrible at getting this team a PPQB, a puck mover on defense. He paid a big price for one today, cover up those holes he never filled !

Gordie Clarke probably hates Sather's F'ing guts.

"Let me have a 1st just one time. ONE TIME!"

He gave him a #10 overall, the guy took Mcilrath.

Plus, they're closing in on retaining Zucc, and Miller and Hayes continue to get better. College free agency, here we come.

I've been mentioning this years crop of College FA's all season in the prospect thread for a reason ;)

Man... the reaction around here reminds me of something...

... HFNYR hasn't been happy with any of the deadline deals we've made in any of the last 3 years. Yet, they've all worked out.

Ryan Clowe worked out?

Anyway, AV got his Alex Edler finally, this is a win now trade, no doubt. And it also works well with the USA and New England contingent this team is built around. But do I think Yandle puts this team over the top? No way. Very good addition, but we'll see how well he adapts, and then what happens to Boyle.

Trading 3 straight 1st rounders. Does that beat Neil Smith's record ?

Who are the top 5-10 targets in your mind, BN?

Any of them equivalent to 1st round pick talent? 2nd?

Still so pissed we traded Duclair.

Should have shipped out Miller before him.

We are going to regret this trade boys, mark my words.

I'd have Miller over Duke. Smaller upside but a surer thing.

Yeah there's just something unusual about this move. He finally addressed a problem this team has had for years, but he gave up a ton to do it, and the guy is likely going to be more of a PP specialist to boot given who is ahead of him on the left side. Maybe they play him on the right on one of the top two pairings, but it's a lot to pay for a guy who likely isn't going to get a ton of ES ice-time.

They really should.

I think had Arizona not seen Duclair at the WJC with Domi, then I think Miller would have gone the other way instead of Duclair.

Only time will tell if we made a good move.
