Kyle Olson is not on Tri City's lineup tonight so his regular season is over.
He finished with 21G+49A=70Pts in 62 games. He had a -3 rating with 216 SOG.

Tri City will face #2 overall seed Everett in the 1st round of the playoffs.

Dostal stops 21/24, but Ilves loses Game 2 in OT. The final, conclusive game 3 of the wild card mini series will be played on Tuesday, 6:30 PM local time.

Some world class drama in this game -- after a back-and-forth 60 minutes, Ilves was handed a penalty shot during OT, but they missed that chance. 5 minutes later, Ilves takes a penalty and SaiPa nets the OT winner. Initially everyone thought Lukas had made an incredible save (video here), but after a lengthy review the call on the ice was overturned.

I hope the video officials had better angles than the TV viewers had, because otherwise that's a BOLD call to make. Sure, all kinds of assumptions of where the puck might've been can be made, but IMO based on those angles, there was no way to definitely say the puck completely crossed the goal line.

Forgot to mention that Minnesota lost last night to Notre Dame 2-1 in OT in the Big 10 tournament semifinals, which means that their season is over unless they receive an at-large bid to the NCAA tourney.

Brent Gates finishes his senior season with 13+18=31 in 38 games. His college career is over, so now the deadline approaches as to whether or not he elects to sign with the Ducks.

Blake McLaughlin finishes his freshman season with 5+15=20 and a -3 in 35 games played, but he really looked to come into his own in the second half of the season. It might not be to the level of Troy Terry, but I expect him to make a huge leap forward from his freshman to sophomore season next year.

Dostal stops 18/20, as Ilves defeats SaiPa 4-2 and advances to the Liiga quarterfinals.

Bad news is that their new opponent is none other than Liiga's defending champion and regular season #1, Kärpät Oulu. Kärpät won 47 of 60 games this season, they are basically Liiga's Tampa Bay equivalent right now.

In order for Ilves to stand any chance in this series, Lukas has to steal a couple of games. He's going to face some heavy shot totals, that's for sure... :help:

He needs to channel an inner "get Jiggy with it" mode.

Gates looked, I'll just say, not great for most of the end of the season. He was on a high production line and seemed like a passenger most of the time. I think he can tryout in the AHL but would not be surprised if he ends up in the ECHL or bouncing between the two leagues. His good shot is not enough to make up for the things he lacks.

Blake, on the other hand, got better and better and has a bright future in college and maybe beyond.

Looks like we struck out pretty big on Gates and Siederoff... I remember people on the boards wanted Tommy Novak but he's done even worse. Too bad we didn't go with our new trend of drafting out of the Q by going with Nicholas Roy, or go with Caleb Jones. At least we got Terry though! :)

Novak is better than Gates. Doesn't say much, though. Between those two and their graduating classmate Tyler Sheehy, you'd be better off signing Sheehy to an AHL contract. He's a free agent and had 149 points in 149 career games.

Gates is almost two years younger than Sheehy.
I can tell you Sheehy is and will be a better player, even if neither sees a minute in the NHL.

Sheehy signed with Minnesota's AHL team today, though. Home team saw him much more often than other AHL/NHL scouts.
