These simulators make me sad, we can make some sweet ass drafts but the team definitely goes in different directions to crush our hopes. Last year's second round killed me. I wanted Peterka at 32. They then traded down from 45 (where I wanted Kuznetsov or the goalie Blomquist) and took Neiderbach who I was ok with, and then took Hanas. Would have been so much happier with Peterka, Blomquist and then Neiderbach.

Why did you pick the guy at 47 when he’s ranked 130?
Because in the next list Bob posts, Heimosalmi will be ranked much, much higher. Mark Edwards has him ranked in the middle of the first round, and he’s a high to mid first on my amateur armchair board as well. I think he will go in the first. I can’t imagine he’ll last past the second.

Ok gotcha. I don’t see any of these guys so I’m not the most knowledgeable guy. I’ll watch out for him

Trying to read up on some of these kids typically available for me in rounds 2-3 using Bob's ranking.

This kid has me intrigued. I am curious what he would have been able to do in the OHL this year.
2021 NHL Draft - Sidelined Series: Connor Lockhart - FCHockey

The other kid I have been trying to get a better feel for is Sean Behrens. This was an interesting article on him:

Detroit to DC
I ran the sim with Mckenzie's ranking yesterday and I liked the value I got. I won #2, had I picked at 6 or 7 I'd likely have taken Johnson or maybe Hughes if he fell.

2. Matt Beniers (C)- It's pretty well-documented how much I like the player, and I don't think we'll get a chance to draft a better center prospect barring lotto luck in the future or a late round gem.
28. Simon Robertsson (RW)- Samoskevich was off the board :( In general I like the value you get on scoring wingers in the #20-50 range, and I think Robertsson can be a nice second line shoot-first winger
36. Stanislav Svozil (LD)- I like Svozil, very pro-style game imo. I don't know that there's a higher ceiling than #3-4D here, but if you keep taking prospects like Svozil, Wallinder, Johannsen, you'll start to flesh out the blueline.
47. Logan Stankoven (W)- I'm not sky-high on Stankoven, but at 47 I like the value. He's very small but stocky, and a good skater. Produced very well at the junior level. With the amount of picks we have I'm occasionally willing to take risks after our own 2nd.
52. Dylan Duke (LW)- I like Duke, I think he could be a Bertuzzi type hit in this range. Pretty combative winger with a scoring touch.
68. Ben Gaudreau (G)- Ngl I haven't seen Gaudreau play a lot of hockey, but the package is intriguing and at #68 why not.
90. Ryan Ufko (RD)- 5'11, above average skater, good offensive tools, pretty raw. I think he's shown nice flashes with the Steel, maybe an offensive second pairing upside. Umass Am commit.

Beyond this pick I haven't seen the kids play enough games to distinguish themselves, I'd probably end up favoring NTDP kids.

Doesn't skate well enough given his size. I don't mind undersized skilled defensemen, but they need to be plus skaters. Behrens doesn't do it for me in that regard.

It feels like Bob's list is out of date or a little off.

When I play as the Jackets I often end up with
7 Brandt Clarke
29 Fedor Svechkov
30 Zach Dean
70 Colton Dach or Samu Salminen
102 Sean Tschigerl
133 Aleksi Hiemosalmi
....

Is that realistic? How many of those guys are actually likely to be there in those draft slots?

Trading down 3 spots would cost a 2nd round pick not a 3rd round pick in a pretty meh draft.

Hit simulate 5x to randomize it and landed on 6 ( we had hit 1st twice in those 5 sims)

6. Beniers C/W
28. Chayka LD
36. Raty C
47. Olsson LD
52. Mallioux RD
68. Gaudreau G
90. Gallgher RD
100. Del Mastro LD
126. Vaisenen LW
132. Sternberg C
164. Gerasimyuk

I would be more than happy with this.

I do hope Bob updates his rankings and they use it. More often than not guys like Svechkov are there in the 2nd round and theres pretty much a zero chance that happens at this point.
