So I love Kent Johnson, I'd take him just about anywhere in the draft. But for what it's worth he played LW all year for Michigan, and according to McKenzie scouts project him more as a winger than a center.

I'd love to draft the kid, but if we do so I think it's got to be based on his talent, not his position.
I have him #1 regardless of his position (I never look at positions at the very top of the draft, like roughly top 10, depending on the year). Having said that, I'm someone who thinks he could play center. He has the IQ, instincts, vision and stick work to do so. Might require a little more hustle and skating speed though. But if he plays the wing, he's gonna be awesome anyway. He's ridiculously talented, creative and elusive along the boards. I'm a big fan of his from what I've seen until now.

Used Bob's list but set the randomness to max...

6. Brandt Clarke, RD
28. Francesco Pinelli, C
36. Fedor Svechkov, C
47. Oliver Kapanen, C
52. Logan Stankoven, C
68. Prokhor Poltapov, RW
90. Brent Johnson, LD
100. Jimi Suomi, LD
126. Ville Koivuenen, RW
131. Kalle Vaisanen, LW
132. Peter Reynolds, C
164. Martin Rysavy, LW

I went with Clarke because I like his upside a lot, and there was simply a lot of interesting center options I couldn't pass up. Rounded out the draft with getting some wingers and LDs, but if we truly make all the picks, I could see our cupboard looking pretty full after the draft.

won first in the lottery. traded back with columbus, then packaged some picks to move up. had randomizer at about 90% and went with bob's list.

002 | simon edvinsson, ld | shut-down, two-way defenseman
010 | fabian lysell, lw | skilled, speedy, playmaking winger
036 | simon robertsson, rw | power forward
052 | william stromgren, lw | skilled winger
068 | olen zellwegger, ld | offensive defenseman
070 | aleksi heimosalmi, rd | two-way defenseman, offensive leaning
126 | hugo gabrielsson, ld | two-way defenseman, defensive leaning
131 | colton dach, lw | power forward
032 | liam dower-nilsson, c | defensive center
164 | kirill gerasimyuk, g | goalie

only picked up one center, and he's probably a bottom six guy if he makes the nhl. good mix of defensemen and wingers though. don't know too much about gerasimyuk, but his stats look nice, and he's russian, so we'd be able to let him simmer for a while.

i didn't realize this 'til after the draft, but i drafted four players who were playing together to start the year in edvinsson, lysell, gabrielsson, and dower-nilsson. the two defensemen have great chemistry. lysell looked good with niederbach, who also started the year with this group. this haul would really push the frolunda red wings narrative.

You would pass up Power or Hughes for Edvisson?

Hakan Andersson is on record praising Edvinsson's game last year, and while I wouldn't pass Hughes for Edvinsson, I'm guessing Detroit would. Power went first in the draft after I traded down, but I'm not convinced he's a better prospect than Edvinsson anyway. Ultimately, I chose to take Edvinsson and Lysell over Power by trading down. That's a pretty easy choice for me.

Just finished drafting using Draft Prospects Hockey’s NHL Draft Sim.
Detroit Red Wings
(5) Luke Hughes, LD - Potential top pairing LD for ages.
(28) Fedor Svechkov, C - Hopefully a top 6 C.
(36) Scott Morrow, RD - Prospect.
(47) Oliver Kapanen, C - don't know much about him other than his profile. Explosive skating C. I'll take it.
(52) Samuel Helenius, C - Hulking. 6'7. Why not.
(68) Tristan Lennox, G - Need a goalie. So why not.
(90) Vladislav Lukashevich, LD - defense with skating and some height.
(100) Red Savage, C/LW - Yzerman type pick with a hockey name.
(126) Hugo Gabrielsson, LD - Swedish D.
(131) Aleksi Heimosalmi, RD - evidently won't go this late.
(132) Dru Krebs, LD - why not waste a pick on blood lines.
(164) Talyn Boyko, G- massive goalie worth a late pick

6. Kent Johnson, W/C
28. Francesco Pinelli, C
36. Alexander Kisakov, LW
47. Samu Salminen, C
52. Benjamin Gaudreau, G
68. Aidan Hreschuk, LD
90. Shai Buium, LD
100. Jimi Suomi, LD
126. Martin Rysavy, LW
131. Jake Martin, RD
132. Connor Lockhart, C

Ran it again from the 6 slot, and got some of the LD I like this time.

(Just an FYI, I will be taking Samu Salminen every time I do this)

6. Kent Johnson, W/C
28. Stanislav Svozil, LD
36. Anton Olsson, LD
47. Jack Peart, LD
52. Samu Salminen, C
68. Benjamin Gaudreau, G
90. Joshua Roy, C
100. Ville Koivunen, RW
126. Ty Voit, W/C
131. Martin Rysavy, LW
132. Jiri Tichacek, LD
164. Braden Holt, G

I have liked what I have seen from Svozil and Olsson at the U18. Same goes for Salminen and Koivunen.
Joshua Roy is interesting to me. One of the younger players in this class, former #1 pick in the Q, have heard he plays a very complete game.

Draft Pros' rankings are so different than others that are up-to-date, like McKeen's and FC. I was able to pick up Svozil at 36, and you got Koivunen at 100. Those two are first and second round in a lot of rankings.

I used Bob McKenzie’s ranking for both of my sims.

Potentially, we could basically be done with the foundation after this draft.
We'd have the following depth charts
LW - Raymond, Bertuzzi, Vrana, Berggren
C- Larkin, Veleno, Rasmussmen Svechkov, L'Heureux
RW - Zadina,
LD- Hughes, Cholowski, Johansson, McIsaac, Sebrango
RD- Seider, Hronek, Tuomisto, Lindstrom, Barton

If Hughes is a top pairing LD and Svechkov and/or L'Heureux are the real deal, our core could be set. Plus we'd still have 2-3 more years of top 10 picks to add.

I watched the Czech vs USA game, and I thought Svozil had some good puck skills and can transport the puck:

I haven’t seen much of Kapanen, I mostly took him because he’s a RH center with decent size and athletic. Have read/heard good things about him.
