Is this so they can send down more of the "kids" to get healthy scratched in Belleville?

Nope.
He is an RFA. Strike one.
He has 2 years left on his contract. Strike two.
He makes more money than his cap hit next year. Strike three.

Dorion wants a skilled UFA that wants to prove himself so he can flip him at the deadline.
What about Shore? He's expiring next year as a RFA, you can either re-sign him or trade him

There were some murmurs that Edmonton was willing to pay Ott to take Gagner off their hands, but they died pretty quick and the rumor was tied to freeing up capspace for free agency.

Oh wait, Byron's signed for a few more years. Still think he'd fit well in Ottawa and get more opportunity to play, no paid overly much and would be an instant fan favourite

Kind of a good question.

Like do they want someone to flip? Or someone to add as a piece going forward.
I'm not sure but if they grab a skilled player and put him in a better position to earn points, they could probably flip the player for a better return.

Out of curiosity:
  • Why isn't Nick Ritchie working out in Anaheim?
  • Any idea on what kind of value/pieces the Ducks would want back?
Ritchie isn't terrible by any means, and I still think he is good enough to play in the top 9 in a complimentary role, but we have Rakell, Comtois, and Jones all starting to emerge + Shore (who could also get moved) and Deslauriers, Henrique who has played best at LW and will likely move there when our C prospects start to emerge, and Tracey who is another top prospect who all play LW and thus, Ritchie is starting to get pushed out of the lineup. The Ducks would probably want picks, or a defenseman of similar age/caliber/contract coming in return.
