Do you think Oilers would improve if they dealt McDavid?

The few players worth trading him for are more than likely going to have NMC's and say "HELL NO!" about playing for the Oilers.

For example (and due to NTC/NMC's) the BEST the Lightning could offer tomorrow is

Point -because he and Miller are like the only 2 forwards that DON'T have trade clauses right now
Miller -see above
Sergachev and/or Foote
Another one of our best prospects -probably someone like Raddysh
1st round pick x2
2nd round pick

And even then is that REALLY a good return for Edmonton?? I mean MAYBE if you add Vasilevskiy to it but if you do that there's no way in God's creation we'd ever win a Cup without steady goaltending. To give him up too is absolute overkill

That isn't just a Lightning problem that's a problem you can find on nearly any given team. The likes of Kucherov and Hedman wouldn't waive

Kucherov and McDavid would be better than Crosby Malkin lol

Probably but it's one of those "never gonna happen" pipe dreams unless McDavid specifically requests to be traded to the Lightning. The closest we ever got was the Karlsson sweepstakes and realistically that's got a snowball's chance in hell right now.

It must suck coming to work every single day and hate your job.

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of a trade by this time next year.

No

He's worth more than any player in the league. The only positive in removing him is that it frees up a lot of cap space, but he's worth the cap hit.

Too many other players there are not. Lucic and Russell being the biggest offenders. Koskinen (after this year) looks like another recent contract that could be a mistake.

If they got a legitimate #1 defenseman (Jones, Subban, w/e) and a center to replace McDavid that can put up 60 points yes they are better tomorrow. Edmonton hasn't had an elite defenseman in 14 years (Pronger). Among the problems affecting the franchise this is probably the biggest.

I don't want Oilers fans to be upset, he's your best player and the leagues best player and you deserve to have him. But I want to ask if he was dealt would the return make the Oilers into an instant contender in the same way that Lindros was a generational talent but the return they got for him got the Avs 2 cups.

Simply put does a Kings ransom for McDavid make them into a top team in the league or do they suck no matter what until management/ownership changes.

That's all that's being asked. McDavid is not being traded and this is purely hypothetical. Would they improve or not with a massive return?

No, in no way does any team deserve to let a player like that rot.

Yes. I think it's overlooked how risky it is to have the highest paid player in the salary cap era. If the guy ever gets injured or slumps, worst team in the league.

Think of it like this... every team is better than the Oilers, basically, yet any time there's a "what would you trade for McDavid thread," there's people who are serious about basically trading their whole team for McDavid. The Oilers becoming another team.... = obviously better. You know any real trade for McDavid would be team exchange level craziness.

Best case scenario for the Oilers is if the Avalanche get lucky in the lottery and get the top 2 picks this year. Then the Oilers could trade McDavid for the top 2 picks, Rantanen, Landeskog, Barrie and Soderberg. But is that really enough for McDavid?!

what about the Oilers trade history leads you to believe that they could pull off a return like that?

Deal. Kings offer Doughty and Kopitar. No take backs

McDavid won't get traded unless he asks for a trade.
Remember when Mario Lemieux entered the league? The Pens were god awful for years after he arrived .

There's one example of something similar to this in history: the Lindros trade. It made Qc better, though the benefits were made in Colorado.

Would it be different? Hard to say. Who would pay that much for a single player? The cap era also makes it more complicated.

Safe answer is : it won't happen anyway. If it happened, well, maybe. But those who easy "clearly no" should be careful.
