If you believe being a successful GM is just a crapshoot, then the Habs should hire Eugenie Bouchard as GM. A brilliant marketing move that would appeal to the media.

However, if you believe hockey qualifications are the priority, then the best candidates are probably listed online in articles about the "Best GM candidates". You'll see some names appearing on multiple lists of future GMs, many of them assistant GMs, others former GMs. What these names have in common is a successful resume in the NHL, which is why they're considered the most qualified. Which would you prefer?

The biggest requirement imo is the ability to analyze talent because the final decision is made by the gm.
I wouldn't mind Cassie Campbell or Hayley Wickeneiser somewhere in the org.:dooney:

What specifically has Campbell shown you that makes you think she would be a good judge of talent? Her work as a broadcaster?

I think it was long established that when it comes to judging talent there isn't anyone who comes even remotely close to Bergevin.

Granato, smartest person I have heard in hockey

That is one, and she was just hired as a pro scout and you have no doubts that she is ready to be. GM? Intelligence alone isn’t enough, experience is necessary.

Who are the other ones?

love Megan Chayka but she's too young, give her 5 more year and she will outsmart any other GM

want me to continue ?

You said you knew several. How do you have such personal knowledge of their intellect?

BY your own admission Chaykais five years out, so obviously doesn’t count as being ready.

Is it your belief that Granato has the necessary experience to be an NHL GM today?

You can drop the “want me to continue” crap like you dropped the mic. You offered one name who is in her first year of professional hockey as a scout and one name who you admit is 5 years away.

Please enumerate their qualifications in objective terms that go beyond or personal belief of their intellect.

Things haven't changed in 8 years. It seems some fans want to propagate the idea that this team will magically get better without actually doing anything different. Mediocrity will never die!

The comment was attached to a play on words that is only relevant on a limited time basis and wasn’t offered beyond that scope. Of course, if we’re looking at the overall record, there is nothing to indicate that the no plan / anything can happen / no windows approach by MB is going to beget a different result.

Granato for me would have been an ideal, smart and visionary GM, but Seattle got her as a scout.

Might need to prove more for your opinion though.

So what are her qualifications? She has no relationships with other GM's in the league, she doesn't speak french, and she isn't a former player in the NHL which I still think is a valuable asset to have. Her only qualifications are she has played hockey, and her brother ? That Olympic gold doesn't mean you are going to be a great GM, hence Gretzky's failures in the NHL as a manager, coach etc. You can't just hire someone because they are female, you need a certain set of intangibles (in theory) to work in Montreal. Apparently a high school diploma is optional though.

As a scout, sure, but as a GM in Montreal, never. They wouldn't take Yzerman here because he wasn't french how does Granato pass any of the hurdles?

They'll take Chantal Maccabé way before Granato, anyway

Les portes tournantes de la défense du Canadien

We have used 47 different defenseman since MB took over in 2012 which leads the league. That clearly shows his inability to find the talent needed To fix issues.

Inability sounds a little too neutral and disculpatory. This is MB's staff after all. Despite having a budget that could blow most teams out of the water, they are not using their economic advantage to hire the best in the market at all levels. On ice results depend on the quality of your off ice people. Rather than dispose of an incompetent GM who has been afforded more than 7 years to devise and implement a viable plan, this ownership group is continuing to choose to continue with the same failed recipe since 2012 and should continue to be called on it.
