What a wild game to be at, felt like a throwback with all the scraps!

The refs absolutely lost control of the game early and you could tell the calls were not going to be of the consistent variety. Really hope Jack is alright as that looked like a really rough landing.

Chose Mercer, Nico and Graves. Mercer for the obvious, Nico for being an absolute horse and Graves for continuing to be a rock back there. His passing is an underrated quality, feel like he is a really calm presence back there.

Its weird that people are crapping on Geersten dressing and then complaining about the 3 minutes of ice time he got.

He didn't have enough ice time to screw things up and it means the top players get to play more.

I'm fine with it as long as it doesn't become a regular thing.

Because he’s taking a spot from a better player.

This sucks about Hughes. At best he misses a week or 10 days. Most likely he’s missing a handful of weeks . Second to worst scenario it’s a few months. worst case is he broke his collar bone and is f***ed.

that was absolutely a scumbag hit by Lauzon who then was smiling about it. He lifted him with his stick. Might as well been a slew foot with how he used it imo.

Which again is fine when you have three days off before the game and another day off after it, not so much when you have a fourth game in six nights or a back to back and have to roll basically three lines for two periods.

A measurement I use to determine how well a team is playing is Face Off Wins. Game 1 48.2% and Game 2 48.7%, not very good. Tonight they get a break, Hughes was out of the game but in Game 1 Hughes only had 4/11 so it is a team problem that needs to get fixed.
lol Faceoffs are not a good measure

“Day-to-day” means jackshit (no pun intended) coming from the Devils. Taylor Hall was “day-to-day” in 2018-19 and we all know how that turned out. We still can’t get a straight answer about Miles Wood.

Hope for the best but expect the worst.

A shoulder injury like that totally depends on the severity and beyond that on how well it heals and how the player feels. Just how it is. Could be a week could be a month.

If it was a broken bone or a tear they would be using different language.

His season is most likely not in jeopardy and the folks claiming our whole season was over were badly overreacting.

I agree completely man. It was pretty wild. Fanbase was pumped up. Baumann in the atrium at the end.

Mercer, Graves and Johnsson for me. Liked Bernier as well. Thought Nico (esp on penalty kill), Zacha, Bratt had good games too.

Those saying Geersten is no deterrent have never stepped on the ice, I'd guess. Granted, I like what Siegs stepped up and did, and how Graves handled himself better - but... I'm pretty sure if the linesmen let Geersten and Lauzon fight, that Lauzon might not have been in the lineup the next game or at least would probably think twice before running a player.

What should we do then? Just trade Nico, Bratt and Jack now because they'll all end up playing just 21 games a year after getting repeatedly smashed? It is really either that, or Jack just becomes a perimeter player and never goes into the corners or in front of the net - and becomes less effective as a result.

Gretzky didn't take a pee without McSorley around. I'm pretty sure that's at least part of why he didn't spend that much time wearing casts, because he'd be the first guy I would've pounded into the boards if I had a chance.

Johnsson has maybe been our best player thus far, and I hope he just keeps it up. Extremely happy to eat crow because I was one of the many that just wrote him off.

I'm one of those as well.

I was like "WHAT IS THIS SORCERY??? ANDREAS JOHNSSON WITH TWO GOOD GAMES IN A ROW WHERE HE'S NOT A BLACK HOLE???"

I hope to continue to shove crow down my throat every game if he keeps this up.

That's why I put him in as one of my stars in the Poll.

The other two is Mercer(of course) *AND* once again....Mr. f'n BERNIER.

He's definitely the best Backup Goaltender we've ever had, imo.

Gretzky played in an entirely different era of hockey without the instigator penalty and when bench-clearing brawls were still tolerated. I cannot speak to hockey in Gretzky's time - I can only speak to it in my time, when this stuff has rightly been put entirely on the back burner.

Lauzon has played on the NHL fringe for 3 seasons now. He is making $850,000 this season. The diffeence between him making $10M+ in his career and $3M or whatever is his willingness to finish checks like the one he finished tonight. I doubt very much he will stop. Even if he does, his team will just find someone who will. There don't seem to be a shortage of players willing to do this.

Having a guy like Geertsen is good for morale, everyone likes a revenge fight. I'll just never believe in 2021 that it does anything besides pump some guys up (and the effect works the same on the other bench).

this is the Johnsson those of us defending him and pointing to his advanced stats saw coming. He had seriously shitty luck last year. And not having enough time to truly practice and get a new system down def didn’t do him any favors.

Ya 2 good points here.

1)Hit was clean

&

2)Geersten isn't all that tough.

That said, while I don't much want Geersten in the lineup, I do like when someone responds to a big hit.

Geersten is pretty accurate with his punches though.

Got quite a few direct hits to that stupid f***face Lauzon's stupid head even with the refs trying to break up the fight.

Like I said :

If he keeps this up, I will have zero issues with him *AND* will begin to believe that he *CAN* be effective without Tavares and Matthews on his line.

BTW, speaking of which, @StevenToddIves ....what's your impression of Johnsson thus far?

Are you as shocked as I am?

Have stepped on the ice plenty of times and I promise you that having Geersten on the ice is not a deterrent at all. He really can’t hurt you that much. Even if you drop the gloves it’s pretty easy to come out without taking many if any punches if you really don’t want to. Suspensions are a much bigger deterrent for dirty hits.

However, that was a clean hit anyways and Jack is gonna get hit whether Geersten is in the lineup or not. He has well done pretty well for two seasons so far and will learn more and more as he goes how to protect himself and not get hurt. It’s part of the game though and will happen again.

The other reality too is that the other player doesn’t really have to fight him. Usually other players expect you too when it’s a dirty hit but there really wasn’t anything wrong with that hit. Lauzon is a guy that’s trying to stay in an NHL lineup and that’s part of how he’s gonna stay in so he’ll take that everytime. If it’s a better player I doubt he’s gonna waste his time or sit in the penalty box for 5 minutes fighting a plug like Geersten over a clean hit.

Great to get 2 points. But obviously this year is about developing as a team and Hughes missing any sort of time hinders that.

I do wonder if this will get Holtz called up tho to play wing for Zacha to move Pav back to the middle.
