I've never been a huge Wood supporter tbh. I just don't think that he's actually particularly skilled at the hockey aspect of hockey (well, against other NHL players I mean...he's incredibly skilled in comparison to say someone like me). He's also undisciplined, and I can't quite trust him. I think that's a bad combination. Yes, he's got amazing speed, and the grit and tenacity are very welcomed, but I think he's JAG that happens to be fast.
We all know what Wood is. But let's not act like his speed has not proven to be impactful.

Didn’t watch tonight game. Was Smith really that bad? And I hear a lot of praise for Boqvist, how was he
Smith made a lot of really bad mental mistakes.

Boqvist had a pretty solid game overall, looked good out there, and got 2 goals on top of that.

He's scored a couple goals, but I don't think he's been great really.
He's quite a bit improved, adding some physicality, and I can finally see the speed for which he was touted. But I do think he's still a bit raw. But I think he's upped his stock a bit at least.

I think the difference between Wood and McLeod so far this preseason is McLeod had a puck come right to him while the goalie was in the corner, and he lost control of a puck which then slid under the goalie.

Still JAG, and at 2.75m/yr, probably an overpaid one. I can take the loss of speed if I'm getting other abilities in return from other JAGS.
Given he is legit one of the fastest skaters in the league, JAG does not fit.

Disagree. His looks faster and tougher. Playing a lot more assertive. He should be in Bing though. He seems like the type that needs more cooking to reach his potential.

Let him center the top line in Bing

In comparison to what he was then sure he's looked better but I wouldn't say he's been that good

Yeah it does. He's JAG who happens to be fast. His speed is balanced out by a lack of skill. He's a bottom 6 forward that I wouldn't trust, and probably should be a bottom 3 guy on this roster. That's very much JAG.

Is Marquise Goodwin more than JAG in the NFL as a receiver just because he happens to be one of the fastest players in the league?

No way. McLeod is playing strong and hustling. Wood looks soft and lost.

McLeod hustled and played physical last year too. This preseason he's had a couple pucks go in the net.

Said this above but the Wood Rooney Hayden line played more then half their minutes vs the Barzal line. They were basically the Zajac line for the night. Really good competition will make OK players look bad.

Based on how many quality guys we have to work with here, I'm assuming the top 3 lines are going to roll pretty evenly 5on5 in typical game situations, with the 4th line getting a bit less time. Hall, Palmieri, Hischier, Hughes, Gusev, Bratt, Coleman, Zajac all for sure playing in that top 9, with 1 open spot for Simmonds, Boqvist, Zacha, etc. to try and seize.

Can't assume anything.

Maybe Wood was busting his ass and it didn't seem that way.

Regardless, this is a moot point.

Wood is going to be on the team no matter what and it's McLeod who has to convince Hynes to keep him up.

Has he done enough?

I'm not qualified to make that Judgement.

But we'll see.

I dunno, has Goodwin ever scored 19 goals in a season?

I still think they might limit Hughes. Just to keep him fresh. But given he makes it look so easy, maybe they won't need to.

Dude has 200 career games and 37 goals. Safe to say the 19 goal season was the flash in the pan season and the 9 goal average between the other 2 seasons is who Wood really is.

He's JAG.

I know, I know. BUT HE'S ONLY 24
