Schneider is a .903% goalie over the last 100 games (including the excellent playoff series last year), but that was before I counted any of his last two games. Any jump the Islanders gave him was probably negated with yesterday's game. You're going to seriously point to Schneider when Kinkaid has played nearly 40 games with a sub-.900 sv%?
Listen, the team is terrible, but Kinkaid has been trash all year.
I'm not a huge Kinkaid fan, by the way, I haven't defended him much this year.
I think his struggles this year are very likely due to the fact that he's had to play so many games and he's really not a goalie you want playing this many games. At least not two years in a row.
He performs well as a backup more years than he doesn't, but one of the main reasons he's had to play so much this year was because he was the only serviceable goalie on the roster until a week before Christmas. Part of that is because Cory wasn't even cleared to play until around Halloween, the other part of it is that he was unplayable from his return until he got injured again. I don't think we were giving Lack a start anyway in October, where Kinkaid was still playing pretty well. He seemed to start dropping off around the second week of December, which is when he (if I had to guess) had appeared in probably 80% or more of the games we had played to that point in the season.
