also a side note but mojo looks pretty good lately, missed goals aside. if he and palmieri both click at the same time this team could be a lot more dangerous

I thought that line, including Zajac, looked pretty solid last night. If they can get going, it'll be a big boost.

Just to get Palms going more, I wouldn't mind seeing him moved up with Hall and Hischier. Even with Zajac as the center, I think Bratt and Mojo could do wonders for each other.

So what did Hynes have to say post game?

At some point you have to take shots at the league. Get it into the media.

Hynes isn't going to risk getting fined for trashing the officials/league to the media. That's just unnecessary for all involved. Here's what he said though:

“I don’t really have a comment on what the refs call is,” Hynes said. “It doesn’t do any good to voice an opinion on that. It is what it is. But it was a long review. But that’s what the rule is.”

Did the league ever come out and admit that the refs f***ed up missing six Caps on the ice? Say what you want about the NFL, but when their zebras f*** up, they call them out on it and admit the mistakes

I like that the NFL does that, but has the NHL ever done this? Other teams have been shafted worse in bigger games and not been given an apology..

it is strange the offside challenge. why is it limited to just goals? say the play is offside and they continue on and a get guys a 5 min major shortly after. team goes on to score 3 goals off the 5 min major? which never should've happened because the play was offside.

Some Johansson quotes.

"It's a tough call. I think to me that's a possession play," Johansson said. "It's not a question if my foot's over the line first or not. When you have possession of the puck, you don't have to have the puck over the line first. So I guess the linesman thought I didn't have control. It's a tough call, but that's the way it goes. There's nothing you can do about it. It's not like we can challenge it back, right?"

"You kind of start wondering what they're looking at when they look that long," Johansson said. "To me, it's pretty obvious if its' a possession play, it shouldn't take very long. Everybody knows that rule. If you have possession of the puck, you don't have to bring the puck in first, you can skate backward with it in. It's a tough call, but that's how they saw it."

And this gem that just made me laugh, refs call something, ok.

I read this to mean the Devils speed seemed to cause possession and odd man situations throughout OT. I took the "too many men call" as a joke because STL was being swarmed.

Of course it was a joke, Yeo couldn’t have known how loaded that comment would be for us after Saturday since the NHL swept that mistake under the rug.

Exactly this. The level of stupidity with the offside challenge is off the charts. I mean if they're going to say that Mojo was offside on that particular play, then I think it's a safe bet to assume that teams are probably offside at least 10+ times every single game. Essentially, the entire game is a waste of time when you think about it. Offside / Onside is what it is and should never be subjected to challenges for this very reason.

I think our ability to dominate Stl in OT spoke to what Dano was saying about attacking Stl's big d-men with speed.

We were very willing to give up the zone because we could just rush back up and put their guys on their heels.

And no one in the world, aside from the St video review guys would have even considered the play.

That to me is the main point. Replays should fix obvious issues. Not create big issues out of a play that no once noticed.

That's even b4 we get into the meaning of conclusive evidence.

This league really needs to do some soul searching with regards to how it approaches rule changes and various other feature implementations like replay. Going back to the trapezoid, up to today with inanity like a 10 minute offside challenge review, to the horribly weak calls being made behind nets (I'm 100% fine with preventing hits from behind toward the glass, but I'm not ok with a minor because someone's stick was within a few inches of someone else's skate), the obsession with constantly shifting things around in an attempt to ramp up offense has not been healthy for the league on the whole, in my opinion.

Offense is up lately due to an influx of incredibly talented young forwards around the league, but the league keeps tinkering with small rules here and there and disrupting the flow of play. Like Dano said last night, by doing the review the way they did, both to MoJo and to Hall the other day, you're depriving the league of a really slick, really exciting play by a dynamic forward, which is supposedly what this league wants more of, but nope, we have to create these systems that just complicate things without adding much in the way of tangible benefits...and that's ignoring the fact that you shouldn't need 10 minutes to decide if something has overwhelming evidence to be overturned or not, if it's overwhelming then it won't take 10 minutes.

This league could have driven scoring up significantly years ago just by putting its foot down on the size of goalie pads that get used, but instead we've had to make various rule changes that don't help the game; it's insane.

The rule just has to go. It’s like in the NFL if you could challenge whether a guy lined up offsides by a half an inch after a touchdown. If it’s that close and the refs don’t see it, oh well, that’s part of the game. The game is not improved one bit by this rule. I wouldn’t even be happy if the Devils stole a point because of it. It’s trash and I don’t wanna see it anymore.

I 100% agree, and I don't think we have ever benefited from this garbage rule.

if it pisses off one team enough, maybe they'll challenge every play as an offsides, just because they can. shot onto my goalie leading to a D-zone faceoff? nah, they were offsides. call it back.

i can dream can't i

also adds all the time back on the clock for the trailing team to catch up (assuming they were losing to begin with)

edit: im guessing you meant challenging the offside right when the penalty was called cause after the puck is dropped youre shit out of luck, the goals would stand

Damn, this loss really stings. However, the game showed again that we can play with anybody and getting a point in St. Louis isn't bad at all. However, much more would've been possible today. Great game by Nico again, what a player at that age.

What pisses me off more is that these offside bullsh-t challenges wiped out TWO Goal-Of-The-Year candidates along with a possible 2 extra points(Hall and now Bratt w/Nico's assist). :madfire::madfire::madfire::madfire::madfire:
