Nashville will automatically add a goalie to the trade market whether it's Saros or Askarov, Boston has to most likely trade Ullmark with Swayman's extension looming. Those two situations would decompress the goalie market for NJD

I'm not sure why Ullmark isn't a thing we talk about here.

But for some reason washed up sack of shit Gibson and old Markstrom with their 3 and 2 remaining years at $6+ million are.

I'm somewhat intrigued by Markstrom, but not Gibson. I wish that name would just go away.

Ullmark would be my #1 choice, even over Saros if I thought he would be attainable. I just would hate to see Mercer // Holtz stay in the conference tbh

I always love the notion about the “goalies available”.

No goalies have moved aside from ones that got waived for being worse than Vitek has been at the time of being waived. If a goalie is available, there is a reason they haven’t been moved yet. The cost being asked for is too high. And that is the selling GMs right because they have control of the market right now.

We all would like to see a change in net, I’m sure. But it would likely be very costly at this stage.

I mean I get it that a Goaltender that can basically steal you a Playoff series is only one or two players in the league these days but at the very least it would be nice to have one who can make routine saves, you know?

So why not go get a goaltender that can at the very least : NOT be Vitek?

Odd that goalies always morph into crap on this team. Hmmmm.

I guess my answer is I'm not ok trading Holtz, Mercer, Casey, Gritz, or a first for a crap goalie that is just a little less crap than VV. But that's basically what the option is. It was also mentioned earlier in the thread that our prospect pool is withering away really fast and we have to be very careful with moves right now.

I know this may come as a shock to some, but the teams in front of the goalies have an impact. A bigger one than we might be willing to admit. Yes, the stats are valuable, but they are not above reproach. This team breaks down spectacularly quite often leaving other teams with layups more often than not. The stats do their best to account for "high danger" and try to calculate "expected goals against", but they don't account for everything. Our system undoubtedly hangs goalies out to dry most nights and yes, our goalies are bad, but so are most others. They just generally aren't put in as much of a position to fail as ours.

I also get 'blaming the goalies' more in the first 10-20 games of the season before Dougie, Siegs and Smith all dissapeared onto IR in addition to replacing Sevs and Graves. That's basically an entire defensive core changed over from last year, and we kind of gloss over that at times because it's been a gradual erosion and yes a couple of the kids have been upgrades over a couple of the missing, but we've also had Foote playing regular shifts for goodness sakes.

I don't know where Tanev fits on even a right side of Nemec, Marino and Miller. I don't see us sitting any of them.

The Devils need an LD more and the cost of Hanifin would be much higher.
