Graeme Clarke has been putting up points since he got sent down to the AHL. Brian Halonen has been playing really well since his return from injury.

I don't want to see guys like Tierney or Willman in the lineup. Call them up after the break.
Forget Tierney, at least he has years of NHL bottom-6 experience. I don't want to see Bowers, Labarge, or Dowling.

See your point but at what cost and how much will it really help us ......I just think all signs point towards this year being a Learning year
Would be nice to get everyone even more playoff experience, even if you're playing Boston or Carolina in the first round. Plus, just like the Panthers last year, as long as you're in you never know. That's why I was hoping we'd be in that Canucks/Flames deal as a 3rd team to take on Zadorov or Myers' salary if the Canucks were able to get Tanev in that deal.

to change and get off goalies for a second. i saw on twitter the other day about the all star game in the meadowlands in 84. so i had to look it up 4 teams haven't hosted an all star game without looking it up what are those 4? maybe its easy but i was really surprised one of them on that list.

also why haven't the devils gotten one since going to newark? i get the initial reasons when the place first opened but if they were able to hold a draft since an all star game should be the same?

I remember my parents talking about attending that game when I was younger. My dad's company had season tickets for the Devils back in the 80's, which is how I got into the team (despite not having cable & thus not being able to watch them on TV). Not sure how he snagged those tickets vs. someone else in his company. Think I might have the program book from that game somewhere, though I'm not sure.

Seemed like a banger of a game - Gretzky, Yzerman, Anderson, Coffey, Fuhr, Lowe, Potvin, Stastny, Savard, Housley, Messier, etc.

7-6 win for the home team with Chico Resch picking up the "W" in relief. Noticed that he also took a 2 minute penalty for interference, which I don't recall ever seeing for a goalie...let alone in an All Star game, so I had to look it up.

If you go to 2:06:40, you can see that Chico more or less tackles Yzerman in front of the net and then you can hear him arguing the call with the ref, saying that Yzerman was holding him after they were on the ice.

Such a different game being played compared to today's All Star games - guys are hitting each other, playing real hockey...much more intensity.

Even Gretzky takes a hit in front of the net and gets knocked to the ice at 2:09:40.

LOL and a young Al Trautwig even hosts the post game show.

Can we hire PK to just be a locker room hype guy?

My goalie target this offseason is Linus Ullmark. Will be 31 and one more year at $5 million. Also 6'4 and Fitz loves his tall goalies.
He was really the guy I wanted to go after this off season because of Boston's cap problems (obviously they solved that by moving Hall).

Moving forward, he'll be a bit tricky given the injury concerns, but he does feel like an under valued goalie.

Ullmark has the same agent as Bratt so Fitz is used to negotiating (and negotiating and negotiating and negotiating) with him.

“Learning year.” god the cope is strong with people justifying a failure of a season that easily could be dealt with by trading for a goalie.

This is also a dman we should be looking at.

how is filling a massive need now instead of waiting until summer going all in?
lol yea. Like people here just want to kiss the playoffs goodbye. It’s clear some here over value the f*** out of prospects and complimentary pieces that are replicable and expendable in situations like this. Like Mercer, like Holtz.

The teams contention window opened after last year, you should be going all in while it is open.

Too many goalies in the league stink. I have 0 faith that any available goalie is any better than any options we currently have.
lmao dude stats show this is not even remotely the case. The available goalies are literally better than what we got now.

Do you think getting Gibson or Markstrom, right now, makes a difference of any real significance?
Yes, more so Markstrom given his goals saved above expected being top ten in the league and because I’m not ignoring every single stat that shows how f***ing god awful Vanacek has been and how much better goalies that have been talked about in here have been. Vanacek literally is a top 3 bad goalie this year.

He is, there's no denying that. I just wonder if trading for Markstrom is going to be worth the cost of acquisition. I'd give Nashville pretty much whatever they'd ask for for Askarov though.

I know this may come as a shock to some, but the teams in front of the goalies have an impact. A bigger one than we might be willing to admit. Yes, the stats are valuable, but they are not above reproach. This team breaks down spectacularly quite often leaving other teams with layups more often than not. The stats do their best to account for "high danger" and try to calculate "expected goals against", but they don't account for everything. Our system undoubtedly hangs goalies out to dry most nights and yes, our goalies are bad, but so are most others. They just generally aren't put in as much of a position to fail as ours.

I'm not sure how much we should invest in a new goalie until we have a new d-zone scheme, which likely means a new coach.

I do get wanting to move on from Vitek, since he's obviously below replacement-level. Go for it, replace him with a waiver claim, who cares.

Our d-zone structure makes life hard on goalies, though:

-Breakouts require precision, which means that we often get hemmed in. That leads to breakdowns, which means our goalie sees better chances against. Our three or four rookie defenseman aren't helping here, of course.

-For whatever reason, the "swarm" often leads to one or two undefended guys right in front of our net.

I'm just not sure that trading for a $6M starter fixes our biggest issue in regards to giving up goals.

if the Devils were targeting a 3C in the offseason and/or the trade deadline (depending on the Kraken selling) I'd look at Alex Wennberg -- he should be both cheaper to acquire and re-sign bc of lower of counting stats but he actually plays center more than Henrique. and he's a PK guy as well

Markstrom has been good this year. He was bad last year. He was good the year before that. He was bad the year before THAT.

He’s also 34, with two more years at 6M, and a NMC.

You acquire him and you’re saying “that’s the dude we’re trying to win with for two more years. You’re comfortable making that call right now in a desperate attempt to salvage this season?

I couldn't give a shit about trading Casey Holtz or Mercer for players. I'm just not throwing them away for Markstrom when the coach is the main problem with this roster. What happens if Markstrom comes and gets blown to pieces nightly, huh? You act like the goalie is the only issue that's completely wrong with this team. EVERYONE on the defense has regressed, Dawson Mercer looks like a shell of himself. 33% of our top 6 is hurt this year which we had high expectations for in Meier/Hughes and if they play, which we've seen in Timo's case, they look like absolute garbage. Trying to save this shit ass season like it's a franchise mode from NHL 24 lmao. And your second point is wrong as per usual, go look at how Vegas went from a WCF to missing to playoffs to winning a cup. You're just being an spoiled fan

So none of the goalies available will be better than broken-down Vitek?

Isn't that's what we(or rather Fitz) should be searching for?

I mean I get it that a Goaltender that can basically steal you a Playoff series is only one or two players in the league these days but at the very least it would be nice to have one who can make routine saves, you know?

At one point, Akira did just that and then some.

Nico (Daws) started doing that then he morphed into Vitek.

So why not go get a goaltender that can at the very least : NOT be Vitek?

Given our luck with goalies the last few years he'd suck next year and wed be stuck with a $6 million bad goalie instead of a $3.4 million one.

I understand people being disappointed or pissed off at how the season has gone, but looking at the big picture I'm not sure doing anything and everything to salvage the season is a great idea either. We're not an Edmonton yet where they pretty much have to win in the next couple years.

Nashville will automatically add a goalie to the trade market whether it's Saros or Askarov, Boston has to most likely trade Ullmark with Swayman's extension looming. Those two situations would decompress the goalie market for NJD
