Few weeks ago Burrows was approached by Benning to waive to go to you guys but he said no. Just curious as to who you guys were offering and how you see value in him. Thanks guys

Pretty sure that's the first any of us has heard of that....so we have no idea what we offered.

Can I ask where this info is coming from ?

What the heck? I'm not sure I believe this. Glad if this is true that he didn't waive.

Yeah, not sure we'll ever know anything about that potential trade  Lou has anything and everything locked tight.

Its in a few sources here. A few of our beat reporters....Botchford mostly. Its been confirmed that Burrows was approached and he declined. There was a deal in place with you guys but Burrows declined to come there.

I wonder what would have been going the other way? Maybe Lou was trying to dump somebody. Not that I would have wanted Burrows anyway.

just how expendable is adam larrson now? the future of the defense looks a lot different then when he first came on board, he's not the untouchable asset everyone considered him at first.

We'll find out this season, I don't believe Lou will give up on him but if a good deal for him comes around he might say yes.

Even if Larsson doesn't blow people out of the water this season, I still wouldn't move him. You can't give up on a top 5 pick. Some D-Men take much longer to develop then others. I'm willing to be patient with him. As long as Larsson gets 18-22 minutes a night next season and Pete doesn't go back to being a dingus and scratches him for Harrold, as soon as he makes a mistake then I won't panic.

Yeah, when you look at what's happened with guys like Hickey and Erik Johnson (to a lesser extent), it's tough to say we're better off without Larsson. Compounding upon that, is that if Larsson's disappointing enough that we're willing to move him, his trade value is probably miniscule, and may not even be worth giving up a young, cheap, bottom pairing/top-4 defenseman.

Just saw this. I was like "Is that grade too harsh?"

New Jersey DevilsC-

Added: Marty Havlat, Mike Cammalleri, Scott Clemmensen

Lost: Mark Fayne

You can probably count Martin Brodeur among the players lost, although that’s not a sure-thing yet.

I like the signing of Havlat for $1.5 million. After all his setbacks due to injuries, it’s easy to forget that he’s only 33. He had 22 points in 48 games last season despite having his playing time limited by the Sharks and is certainly capable of doing more than that if given the opportunity. Yes, he’s a gamble, but the Devils are a team that’s desperate for offense and at that price, Havlat is a risk worth taking.

Cammalleri certainly isn’t a bargain at $25 million over five years. It seems like teams are being forced to pay heavily for weak second liners and that’s really all Cammalleri is by the standards of a competitive team. The fact that the current market pushes you to pay a guy like him roughly 7% of your total cap space speaks to the need to have a steady stream of young talent coming through the system that’s capable of taking on those complimentary roles.

To put it another way, the Devils have filled their team with veteran forwards that are costing them around $44 million in cap space, which is less than what Chicago and Anaheim pay for their forwards and those Cammalleri-esque contracts are the reason why the Devils are paying more to accomplish less.

The actual signings I'd give a higher grade, but the point about not having a stream of young talent (at least up front) is right. It's the reason we've had to fill so many holes through free agency the last couple years. I am curious to see if Lou has something else up his sleeve yet this offseason with all the forwards we have.

Cammalleri a 'weak' second liner. Interesting.

Apparently scoring 25+ on the Flames makes you weak. And does he not understand the amount the cap will raise over the years will make 5M look like nothing.

The phrase "something up his sleeve" gets thrown around way too casually when it comes to Lou these days.

I don't really think he's deserving of that phrase any longer. That phrase is usually used when someone does something extremely good and unexpected, in betterment of the team.

Lou hasn't had something in his sleeves for years. All he's done has been transparent really, things we've seen coming, or nothing at all, except for the acquisition of Schneider last summer maybe.

This team is filled with over the hill forwards because Lou has done a poor job of managing the team, and because of poor drafting by Conte & Co.

I'm giving props to Lou because he's doing his best to keep us afloat, but the days of him being a wiz are long gone unfortunately.
