Maybe he needs to work more on his Poke-checking.

That's what he needed against Gaudreau.
I didn't really like the way he played the first goal either, but I wouldn't mark that as stoppable because he never did have it shut down like he did on the last breakaway goal.

Do we have anybody else to put in tomorrow? A couple guys need to pay with scratchings after tonight.

Who the hell even is our extra defenseman that didn't play tonight? Did I miss a Gryba call up?

I know tragic #47 was at least one of the healthy scratches on forward.

At this point, Dano could suit up and play much better 'D'.

Did you notice that BUTCHER was the one who was supposed to have been covering his man(who scored that breakaway goal)?

Nine goals against? Last I looked at the score they were up 4-3

I know. If you went to bed after the 2nd period, your morning piss will end up soiling your shorts if you check the score before going to the toilet to unload your bladder.

I don't even remember anymore, I just think we can say that almost nobody had a good game tonight.

Can we say any defenseman had a good game? Or even any forward?

This was bad, and I don't even think Gabriel played tonight. Which reminds me, he's the other healthy scratch from tonight on forward, besides Whenneville I Score. AKA: Tragic #47.

Blackwood's save percentage is actually up to .919% after this game and not .918%. Thanks to having to face one last stupid shot on goal after that 9th goal.

Colton White was called up yesterday.

Is Santini not the most useless defenseman we have? What does he do that's good? His skating isn't bad and his shot isn't bad, but there's nothing he's good at besides that. He's the epitome of ''Stay at home defenseman'', because he literally just stays at home, in the defensive zone. He doesn't even hit people anymore! And I even thought that last year, he wasn't quite as bad as those corsi numbers said and they were a bit fluky bad. Not that he was good, but that they he wasn't quite as bad as those numbers looked. Now he's playing weak competition and those numbers are STILL bad. Not quite as bad (probably because he isn't playing anything tough), but still pretty bad.

What happened to this guy? He was good his first year here, but he's been awful ever since then and his ceiling has now been reduced to something that a Honda Fit would have trouble clearing.
Funny thing is you will also see Santini occasionally forechecking down below the other teams goal line. He behaves as you note. But on random occasions recklessly pursues a rush or pinch in the offensive zone.

We played run and gun with them with some success for 2 periods. They give up plenty of chances. Then wham. In a pond hockey game they outscore us by a 2/1 proportion.

I am really not that impressed by Calgary - having watched their late night games a lot over the past 6 weeks. Michael Frolik at this point an offensive force? Their record is testimony to weakness in the western conference. They are not sound defensively nor is their goaltending that good, not that skilled offensively either. They are out by the second round of the playoffs and maybe don’t get out of round one. Goals get scarcer in the playoffs, games get tighter. They are not built to win that way.

Updated list on the call up/scrub evaluation.

Carrick - Reminds me more of a better David Warsofsky and the RFA guy you don't tender an offer to the next year. Not really a scrub, but we have enough of his kind here.

McLeod - Nothing great right now. Better than Kevin Rooney, maybe better than Seney right now, maybe not. Not an NHL player yet.

Bastian - He gets an I for incomplete. Haven't seen enough yet.

Agostino - Good player for the 4th line going forward.

Tangradi - Rich man's Tim Sestito. Not an NHL player.

Pietila - Good penalty killer, but he's not, has never been and never will be an NHL player

Yakovlev - He's okay, better than Santini, but nothing great. I could do with or without him. I'm more open to giving him another chance than Carrick, because we haven't seen enough of him at the NHL level like Carrick has seen over the last several years, but we have enough of his kind and better here.

Blackwood - Was overachieving a bit. Not having the best game. Still had a better stretch of 15 or so games than either of the other two goalies that have played here this year.

Lappin - See Pietila and Tangradi. Probably a little better than them, not by much. I'd like to see us move on and let him walk in UFA, so the call ups to him stop for good.

Noesen - Agree with the most regression trophy award. Loved him last year. He'll be off the team after this year. He'll be one of this offseason's Beau Bennett's/DSP's.

Rooney - Rod Pelley 2.0. He can kill penalties, he tries hard and he can score once in a while (even Hot Rod had 9 career goals, but never 4 in a season). Other than that? He's useless. You can do better than him on your 4th line or even 13th or 14th forward. You have to do better if you wanna be a good team and we had exactly 0 forwards as bad as him on a full time basis last year when we were in the playoffs.

Gabriel - Goons need to be out of the NHL, unless they can actually play. This one can't.

Quenneville - Get lost. On waivers or something. The most disappointing out of any call up this year, because nobody expects anything from Tangradi, Pietila, Lappin, Rooney or Gabriel. So while I wouldn't say he's the worst call up this year, he's definitely the most disappointing by far.

This should cure us of illusions that Blackwood is some kind of savior who, without more, will solve our problems in goal next year. The kid has looked good. But the sample size is very small and he’s still quite raw.
The sample size is very small. One more year in the AHL (at least at year's beginning) wouldn't hurt and I said this the other night, so it's not like this game made me lean that way. For my thoughts on why, redirect yourself to the goalie thread. The only thing I will say is that it's not as much him as it is another factor.

Why would Hynes even leave him in? Or is it just not worth making a change in the third period?

lol what would even possess anyone to make a change after five seconds? Maybe he thought he got a signal from the bench that he didn't get? It's just the same kind of brain dead **** that plagues this whole team.

I think he would have lifted him if he we didn't have a game tomorrow night.

There also shouldn't have been 2 more goals in the final minute. That's unacceptable. Lose it to 7-4 if you have to, but the team quit in the last couple minutes. Almost every player on the the ice quit on those shifts.

Hynes said he had to fight though it, same thing he said when Kinkaid got smoked and he left him in. He wasn't as pissy about it this time when asked about it though lol.

Santini is trash. Glad the team is starting to fully realize that. Move on next year
He has one two more years left.

Might be a pretty good defenseman for Binghamton.

I'd rather have Mueller. I think it sucks that Mueller isn't under contract for next year, but Santini is for two more years.

My theory was that Santini got the 3 year deal (even though he already seemed to not be in favor here) to use as expansion draft fodder. The last expansion draft pick from us was another defenseman that was nothing special (although better than Santini) so maybe they'd hope this would be the next.

But then it became official that Seattle wouldn't start up play until 2021, when it originally looked like they might in 2020, when Santini would have one more year left on his deal.
