He did win 3 in a row but weren't 2 of those comeback miracles? Maybe I am just overthinking and expecting too much from the guy. Maybe I just feel like this Bc every time I attend a game Cory loses

2-1 in LA we never trailed. 5-2 in Carolina that wasn't really a miracle comeback (down 2-1 going into the third), but it was a miracle goal outburst in the third period. 1-0 against Buffalo wasn't a comeback lol

I don't think Marty will play both. What I could see happening, is Cory doesn't play a game next week that he otherwise would have played. The chances of that get better if Cory loses his game weekend.

You never know, it's Pete Dumbeor we're talking about here. Would anyone be shocked if he uses this game as a reference to ''Punishing'' Cory? I don't think he deserves it, but that shootout was tough to watch.

The next five games are two back-to-backs and one single game in Columbus on Tuesday. Barring something stupid one goalie's playing three of those five and one's playing two. Yeah I could see Marty getting the Tuesday game if he wins his weekend game and Cory doesn't, and that wouldn't even bother me. If they both win (or both lose) then it gets tricky.

Here's where I can't agree. Zajac has been invisible mostly, Henrique has not. You can even put Henrique in the Zajac category, totally not fair. Zajac is the highest paid player on the team isn't he?

I don't think we should start judging Henrique on a half a bad season last year and a quarter of a slow year this season.

Where does Henrique get a free pass from? Am I missing something?

Ah! Now I remember, the Buffalo game was an OT win! That's why I thought it was a comeback, I was just expecting OT-Shootout Loss

I was saying Henrique has been nowhere near Zajac-bad, not even close. Henrique is playing well just not executing. He has the arena on th edge if it's seat 2-4x a game, every game. He's just not burying them, but it's still the same guy from his rookie year. His assist stats have gone down a bit though.

Of course it applied to Zajac. Zajac hasn't proven me a damn thing since 9 left. Why are you assuming I'm being hypocritical?

Both Zajac and Henrique cashed in on paychecks that they should send out commisions for. To 9 and 9/17 respectively.

I have no qualms equally distributing criticism to all the underperforming players on this team.

Again though, we're talking about barely 80 games. When pretty much the entire team sans Jagr has also stunk offensively for that same stretch. You can't credit his entire success to 9/17 and then give him the entire blame for stinking with rotted garbage around him.

He certainly deserves some blame for not playing well, but to completely dismiss the rookie season as an aberration this soon and saying someone who's done nothing offensively his entire pro career would produce the same is where I have a problem with the anti-Henrique stuff.

Fair enough.

But plenty of people are willing to dismiss Josefson, Tedenby, Loktionov and others based on less games. And these are people who haven't had the luxuries Henrique has had.

We can table this.

I see what you're saying but Josefson and Tedenby bring nothing to the table game in, game out, for like 3 seasons. Henrique came in, ran with it, and still dazzles, he's just not getting puck luck. Henrique is actually somewhat underrated honestly.

I do appreciate Pete using 4 forwards at the end of OT. I wish next time he would use 4 forwards for the last couple minutes.

Does it matter if we lose in OT? I mean it saves us from having to watch yet another pitiful shootout loss.

At this point if we do lose in OT, I'll never even think ''What could have been if we got it to the shootout?''. Just take the OT loss. I would be really surprised if this team wins one shootout game this year.

I mean Josefson was ON the team when Henrique came up. Henrique wasn't playing regularly early on, Josefson must have had 'some' opportunity before Henrique got slotted in with 9/17 in early-mid November, unless he was hurt early on. That I don't remember, when Josefson got hurt that year.

Josefson did have an opportunity that year and he was playing well and then he broke his collarbone in the fifth game of the season. He came back and played well and got injured again in an islanders game and then came back for the rangers series.

I remember that game because it was against the Sharks and the Devils blew the lead with under a minute to go and lost in a shootout.

We did win our last three in OT before tonight so at least before tonight we definitely have not been playing for the shoot out.

Anyway I missed the entire game. What the hell happened? I saw the Line of Misfit Toys did some work tonight. Loki, Ryder, and Elias all scoring, and the Booch getting an assist.

So what the hell happened? How did Cory give up 3, and one so late? Was it defensive breakdowns, softies? What? Seeing talk that we got some classless Subbans too.

Also obviously we got tooled in the shootout AGAIN...but did we at least score one?

Agreed.

Pete should have the Devils go balls-to-the-wall crazy trying to win in OT every time considering that if they fail to do so, it's a lock-it-down loss the moment OT ends and the Shootout begins.

The only reason Henrique isn't sitting in the press box is because of his reputation. If "Henrique! It's Over! never happened I doubt Deboer has any qualms sitting the guy. Josefson sits because he doesn't have the track record (albeit one season). So Henrique gets the benefit of the doubt.

He gets top 6 minutes. He gets the PP. He gets the PK. He gets OT. He gets the shootout.

He has done NOTHING since his rookie year to earn ANY of that (aside from the PK).

Yet everyone constantly points to that as some sort of barometer of success for the guy. He hasn't approached that since that year. He's not playing well at all this year. If Josefson received the playing time with Henrique's linemates, with that consistency, I bet Josefson isn't producing significantly less than Rico if any less.

Thank god Pete disagrees.

I'd rather not try and put Mr. 12 games without a point in Henrique's spot just to see if he can produce.

At some point you need to stop making excuses for the guy, it gets tiresome reading the same old rhetoric on here, "oh, he didn't get an opportunity, oh, he doesn't play with skilled linemates, oh, he just woke up on the wrong side of the bed in the morning so that's why he can't produce".

Every other young player that gets minutes today did so by earning their spot after being given a limited opportunity. Josefson has a -1 to show for himself after 36 periods of hockey, he is not and never will be in Henrique's stratosphere when it comes to offensive output.

Yes.

Would you believe that Reid Boucher was in the shootout?

Would you also believe that he went first......AND SCORED? :yo:

Would you also believe that Zajac went next, screwed up as usual and then Patty went next and failed as usual? :help:

I'm not even saying Josefson is any good right now by the way. Just saying Henrique has been so bad, if you slot Yayo in, you're not losing much.

Especially if it's Cory in goal, after that display tonight. At least Marty you have some hope maybe you can eke out a 1-0 shootout score if the cards break right. If the shooters weren't so ****ing hopeless, Marty would have gotten them a SO win against the Isles when it took them six tries to score.

Cory got tooled too I assume? Impression I am getting.

Is that where the fresh Zajac hate is coming from? Or did he have a bad game.

Good for Reid though! But what the hell happened with Elias? He used to be good in the shootout, it seems like we are cursed with it.

Doesn't seem we can complain about goal scoring tonight. Three goals should be enough, and its a good thing when the Misfit Toys are scoring goals.

I remember that game too. Probably the first blown lead of the Dumboer era.

We lead that game 2-0 and maybe even 3-1. I know we definitely lead it to 2-0. Zach had an in game penalty shot.

If my memory is really good, that was the only shootout we lost in the first half of that season. I think it was the only one we lost until the last game before all star break. Our very own Ryane Clowe had the shootout winner I think.

Hey at least we didn't get Henrique in the shootout again, or Ryder though I'm sure one of them was on deck if Patty'd actually scored.

From what I understand as far as Cory goes :

1st Goal was unstoppable
2nd Goal was weak-sauce (leave it to both our Goaltenders giving one of those up with regularity. )
3rd goal was a deflection off a stick that was dangerously close to being above the crossbar(after review it was deemed "below....Good goal")

The Shootout :

Let's just say if we replaced Cory with Yann Danis, you'd never know it happened.

That's how bad he was.

As TG said in his tweet, I'd have gone with Ryder if only to ride his hot hand. We finally have his shot going for us, yet opt not to use it in a situation we've absolutely blown in all season.

Henrique is one of the worst shootout players I've ever seen. 1 for 7 in the shootout, 0 for 1 on in game penalty shots. Might even be 1 for 8 in the shootout.

Last time I brought that up I got ''Well it's a small sample size cause if he got another goal, he would be 2 for 8 which is 25%''.

Yeah he still sucks in the shootout. Brunner does too, but we constantly see videos of his 2 last year. The only 2 he's scored on 9 tries.

The 3rd goal isn't done justice without bringing up Subban's non-call. He took Elias out of the play, which turned over the puck and created the lane for the tip-in goal.

Slew foot or not, it should've at least been interference.

And then there was a Subban slewfoot in there too?

I mean I'm getting the impression that we played well, but it was just one of those games and we are god awful in the shootout (nothing new).

How did Reid look? Happy he got an assist already. And look at Ryder coming back from space! Loki too!

Assume Brunner is still lost in space?

I didn't think any of the in game goals were softies. 2 was through the 5 hole, but it was on a rebound right in front of the net.

First goal was Gionta. I think it was a 2 on 1? I forget, but Gionta was coming through the backdoor and had pretty much the whole net because Cory was playing whoever passed the puck to him.

Third goal was deflection right in front.

Cory was garbage in the shootout though. Goal 1 in the shootout was very bad. Goal 2 wouldn't have been quite as bad if he stopped goal 1, but goal 1 was real weak. He got burned on the short side badly.

We've seen some BAD shootout performances over the last year from Marty and Moose, but this one from Cory might have been the worst since those couple with Hedberg last year when he looked like he needed a walker
