The shot by Merkley was eye-opening. He's always reminding me of the Tasmanain Devil on offense-- aggressive and reckless. And that cost us earlier, but it's good to have at least one guy out there with that mindset.

Sign of a true #1 goaltender. Lets in an ugly goal and then completely shuts the door the rest of the way. At no point did he look uncomfortable after that goal.

Good game, all things considered. There is a lot of depth in this organization and it showed tonight. Big guns struggled but it didn’t matter. You love to see it. Bring on Boston.

yeah, that is a really good sign. Just doesn’t get rattled

I don't know about you but Alexis Lafreni-something isn't really impressing me.

the kakko and lafreniere line had a few solids shifts mid game and then disappeared again,

for guys that are supposed to put up points their seasons have been blegh so far….

…..not saying theyre busts by any means……some guys just need more time….but im not complaining right now

It’s so refreshing to see the kids gaining confidence as the season goes on.
At first , I did not like the Ruff hiring, but I have done a complete 180 on that .
He is showing the kids he has confidence in them and using them in important situations in games . I think this is HUGE in the development of the kids.
I am very impressed with the job Ruff has done. He is exactly what I was hoping for in a coach. Ruff obviously was on the same page as Fitz and company on how to rebuild the right way.
No point in having a coach who is coaching to keep his job and trying to squeeze out wins by ruling with an iron fist and benching kids whenever they made a mistake. The kids are getting experience and having fun playing and learning the game without fear of getting benched or scratched if they make a mistake.
Exciting to see the future is looking bright and the team is moving in the right direction .
With Holtz , Mercer , Foote , Boqvist , Bahl , Shakir coming along , it is fun to be a fan of this team and what’s to come.

I think between McLeod, Bastian, Merks, Subban, and Wood, you have a tidy set of nut jobs that I enjoy watching.

Blackwood, Zacha, and Kuokkanen were the Devils best players tonight IMO. McLeod looked solid too. Jack didn’t look actively bad, but definitely not his best game. Really, no one playing in the top 6 looked particularly good. But couldn’t ask for a better outcome after more than two weeks off and one single practice.

Agreed.

I mean...Bratt had his moments but overall, it was pretty much a "dud" of a night for the Top 6.

Kudos to the 3rd and 4th line where someone ( @dk3790 ) said this :

wow those forward lines are hideous.

And those same hideous lines just made the Rags look MORE hideous. ;)

The Good:
Kuokkanen
Blackwood
Zacha
Severson
Maltsev
McLeod
Team discipline - 0 minors

The Bad:
Palmieri
Tennyson
Carrick
PP zone entries

The Ugly:
Having 5 RHD in the lineup

As much as I dislike you I can never hate you after rearranging DeAngelo's face:
Kreider

I actually think Severson had a really fantastic game, one of the better D performances of the season.

Actually, if your being fair it's now Jack 1, Kaapo 1 in terms of their head-to-heads this year. Kaako had the better game but New Jersey was better as a team.

I'm interested to see the team play against an actual NHL team instead whatever the rags are right now.

I really have no idea what the lineup is going to look like when everyone is back....

Johnsson-Hughes-Bratt
Sharangovich-Hischier-Palmieri
Zacha-Zajac-Gusev
Wood-McLeod-Bastian

Murray-Severson
Kulikov-Subban
Smith-Vatanen

Blackwood
Dell

I HAVE NO IDEA

That leaves Kuokkanen and Maltsev out of the lineup and they have looked good.
