Blackwood, Zacha, and Kuokkanen were the Devils best players tonight IMO. McLeod looked solid too. Jack didn’t look actively bad, but definitely not his best game. Really, no one playing in the top 6 looked particularly good. But couldn’t ask for a better outcome after more than two weeks off and one single practice.

It also seems like under Ruff they are a decent 5-on-5 team (what a change from the last few years!), so playing the entire game 5-on-5 thanks to the prison rules helped.

A lot to be happy about here.
Not being talked about enough is that they didn't take any penalties. That's insane given the season-long parade to the box.

They came out flying in the first then predictably slowed down but played the right way. On a night where Hughes, Palmieri (ugh), Bratt, Wood, Johnsson couldn't get a goal, the depth guys stepped up. Butcher, Zacha, Kuokkanen with three assists, Sharangovich, Merkley, Maltsev with his first career goal in an empty net.... Great to finally have some organizational depth after so long.

Also, Blackwood is king.


Can't wait to see how this team plays when Hischier, Gusev, Vatanen, Kulikov, Murray, and Zajac get in the lineup.

I'll never get why Ranger fans were so hard on the Ruff....why Quinn would choose Lindy to coach the defense is beyond me...that was setting him up to fail...though he probably is the reason why Fox developed as good as he has.

Good win...given they basically haven’t skated in two weeks and they all have had a debilitating cardiovascular disease during that time.

Also, the Rangers without Panarin may be the worst team in the league.

I don't know about you but Alexis Lafreni-something isn't really impressing me.

Severson and Smith. That pairing is very fun to watch. Will generate a ton. Will allow a ton at time. Constant action when they're on the ice.

Both have been major positives together though. Severson has been great to be honest all year

Kuokkanen got a lot of crap in the first ten games. He has been solid in each one. He is finally getting rewarded for his good play.

Sign of a true #1 goaltender. Lets in an ugly goal and then completely shuts the door the rest of the way. At no point did he look uncomfortable after that goal.

Good game, all things considered. There is a lot of depth in this organization and it showed tonight. Big guns struggled but it didn’t matter. You love to see it. Bring on Boston.
