Not that I'm for this move but, what if you get Marner and trade Hall to get some picks back?

At that point, not sure why you don't just try and work out an extended Marner for extended Hall type deal. Hall's contract wouldn't kick in until next year for the Leafs, and they can take his 6 million salary this year without shedding additional cap.

Then you probably pay 2-2.5 1sts in value to swap Hall for Marner. Debatable, but if the alternative is losing Hall for nothing I guess you could make an argument for it.

I don’t see Shero going for Gardiner, even though he fits the mold he wants in a defenseman. I think a trade or signing for another wing is what he’ll go for. Although if he trades for a wing instead of going for, say, Dzingel, that might open up some money for Gardiner.

All I can be sure about is that we’re not done yet, although once again I’m getting antsy.

dang there are 22 year olds that put up 90pts out there as ufa? didn't realize that
Come on, man. There is far less risk in trading for Gusev or signing Dzingel. That's not to say I'm 100% opposed to a Marner offer sheet, but we of all teams know that there's a damn good chance that this can backfire hilariously, and this time not in our favor.

What risk? gusev way more of a risk since you wont be knowing what you are getting and dzingel? well theres a reason why he isn't signed yet i'm sure. i still haven't been given (i asked before) an answer. if marner was signed and being shopped through trade what type of package would it cost the devils to get him. signed for 11 million a year with 7 years or whatever you want 5 4 8.

It would cost a lot more to trade for Marner than what we have, I'm sure. In that case, an offer sheet is the less bad option. But that isn't saying much.

I know it was a down year for Ehlers and he will likely bounce back, but that is a lot for a guy coming off a 37 point season.

He slowed down after coming back from an injury. He's on an insane contract so he's going to be worth a fortune. Not worth discussing though, Winnipeg should have no reason go trade him that I'm aware of.

It's kinda crazy Marcus Johansson is still out there. I wonder if he is just holding out for money he thinks he should get or teams are just seeing other things fall into place before reaching out to him.

I can't say I would be excited if he came back, but he would be a last minute, all else fails, signing to round out the top 6.

MoJo’s concussion history has to be scaring a lot of teams. I don’t blame them, he could be one away. Lot of $$ to invest in someone like that.

that says everything. you bring marner in to put you over the top. you dont trade back players that takes away from what you are gaining. the only thing that doesn't hold any value right now since they are unknowns are the draft picks. in any hypothetical trade with the leafs i'm sure 1 if not maybe 2 first rounders are going back plus prospects. factor in that marner essentially is a proven first round talent what are we really talking about? giving up 1 extra pick to get him? 3 firsts for marner? any playoff bubble team should do it for that price

Do Hall and Marner still have the same agent, or did Marner change agents?

I haven’t heard any change of agent for either player and that’s the common thread most likely holding together the speculation of NJ offer sheeting Marner. Not sure if Ferris can promise Hsll signs of Marner signs but I imagine that Shero would expect that if NJ went the offer sheet route. The

The other thing about offer sheeting Marner is that you still have to re-sign Hall, and you’ve got an RFA deal for Hischier coming up. A $12 million AAV hit makes that math harder. If it were just picks going the other way, that isn’t so bad in a vacuum, but we just saw that cap flexibility allows teams to hold cap strapped teams over a barrel.

Again, not 100% opposed, but I’d rather go less risky.

I wonder if it's also a function of MoJo losing out on the game of musical chairs. Looking at the depth charts across the league and I'm not seeing too many squads where he's a surefire top 6 LW. Johansson's agent is chasing 2nd line money but for a lot of clubs he's more a really nice luxury on the 3rd line.

He might be a nice fit in Vancouver, but they have too many forwards signed to one way deals already. Edmonton/Arizona/Anaheim would be nice, but they either lack the cap or the budget possibly. Colorado would have been great, but they went with Burakovsky and Wilson. Detroit/Columbus/Buffalo could have spots but perhaps they aren't the ideal landing spots if you're Johansson. Thought the Kings would make some sense, but they might be in a holding pattern if they privately acknowledge that they're going to take their lumps this season.

Butcher, McLeod, 2020 1st and a conditional 2021 2nd for Ehlers

Sign Gardiner.
Butcher, McLeod, 1st, 2nd is a nice package of goodies for a team that needs assets and wants to cut salary. More attractive route with WPG would be trading for Andrew Copp at half the trade price, lower cap hit, but nearly as much production.

No. But four 1sts from the NJD would probably get you nearly any player in the league (with handful of exceptions). I have to imagine Shero would have a shot at a Gaudreau, Keller type of player with four 1sts to deal.

Do Hall and Marner still have the same agent, or did Marner change agents?

Yes, Darren Ferris

Hall - Nico - Bratt
Palms - Hughes - Gusev
Coleman - Zacha - Simmonds
Wood - Zajac - Hayden

Gardiner - Subban
Vatanen - Severson
Greene - Smith
(Mueller)

How would you guys like the additions of Gusev and Gardiner? Butcher and a pick to the VGK for Gusev.
Gardiner and subban in the same pairing would be a nightmare. Gardiner is a PP specialist 4-6 defenseman and isn’t not worth more than 3-4 million IMO and not what we need on defense.
