I wouldn't read too much into his usage last game.

In his three first games, he played over 14 minutes.

Don't forget so far, he's gone up against Crosby/Malkin/Brassard twice, Matthews/Tavares/Kadri once, and Kopitar/Carter once. And on Wednesday, it'll be Schenn/ROR/Bozak. That's really tough match-ups to start his career. So it's only normal he's sheltered a bit.

Also to keep in mind, he's being used exclusively at center and not placed on the wing to start him slowly.

Can't argue against your logic. I have to say I am relatively happy with how they are managing him in the 4 games we have played. I really don't think there is a bad decision to be made with Kotkaniemi (Liiga, AHL, NHL). All have their pros and cons. My personal preference is a patient one. Liiga this year and AHL/NHL next year. He has to be lights out and new pt/game before I insert in him a top 6 role.

I liked Peca in the preseason but how does he have a spot over our drafted players?

It would be nice to see if this treatment has lighted a spark in Scherbak, give the kid a chance already..
Agreed. I'm worried we're smothering talent in favour of "fitting in with the system." Scherbak scores goals, and great hands around the net. Let the kid get in for a game.

@Laurentide that's an easy 20 take it, the odds are in your favor af

I'll make the bet with you too if you want.

Deals of the Bet:
- Habs win and Kotkaniemi scores his 1st: I win
- Habs win and Kotkaniemi don't score: Nobody wins
- Wings win but Kotkaniemi scores: We both win so call it a wash
- Wings win and Kotkaniemi don't score: You win

I made a typo in the last post (bolded above). Habs lose and Kotkaniemi don't score is the same as the last point where the Wings win and Kotkaniemi don't score.

Tonight is going to be the big show for him, Detroit's centers are one of the worst pool in the league, and defensively they are terrible. Kotka > Larkin > Antha > Nielsen ( just hope he faces Larkin with his 17% faceoff wins... haha)
Kotkaniemi is promisingly good but it’s inaccurate to say he is better than Dylan Larkin. He may become better....he ain’t there yet

It’s obvious at this point that Scherbak is done as a hab.
well i prefer they sit him rather than play him on the 4th line. When we'll get injuries in the top9, that's another story. He might have to sit for a bit because even if a top 9 spot becomes available, Julien might try Hudon first.

He still needs to stay in game shape

more skill and awareness =/= twice the player. And I'm not sure Kotkaniemi is showing more skill either.

Galchenyuk was one of the better rookies his first year. If not for Gallagher he was probably a Calder finalist. Kotkaniemi has been really good, but comparing him to Galchenyuk in their first 9 games doesn't do Kotkaniemi any favours. He hasn't done what Galchenyuk did.
Only 4 games in, we'll see.

We will see tonight, but I highly doubt Kotka will have difficulties VS Larkin ( which I doubt he will face) Atha is a joke defensively and Nielsen is like plekanec

No kidding, god the hype gets out of hand here. Larkin is a way better player at this point, its not even close.

Yeah, kinda...

Scherbak for Josh Anderson ?

Would do it.

I would, too. Anderson is less than two years older than Scherbak. He has a 17-goal season and a 19-goal season, so 20 goals is a realistic prediction for him.

Is Josh Anderson on the market?

On HNIC's Saturday Headlines segment, Kypreos said that Anderson was put on the fourth line in Columbus. Anderson hasn't formally requested a trade, but Kypreos reported that he's not happy.

He ended it by saying the Leafs and Habs have shown interest in him in the past.

Despite that, in 5 games this year, he has 3 goals.

I agree, the hype around Kotka is a bit overblown from the sportscasters to the fans . I mean he's looking good for an 18 yr old newbie but the exaggeration around him is reaching Leaf-like proportions.

What's interesting for me in his case, is that while, yeah, he can score, it's more that he's big and plays big (unlike Armia, for example, who tries to play big but isn't very effective), really could envision him playing besides Kotkaniemi.

Now, was just throwing Scherbak's name around, not sure he'd survive 1min with Tortorella, even if Kekalainen could like his potential. But let's say that if they asked for Scherbak, yeah, anytime, and I like him, but I just can't see him getting any chances with Julien as HC, while Anderson is kinda prototypical as to what CJ likes in a forward, big, physical, hard-working F with some skills.

Absolutely...the kid should be on the PP not sure why CJ is scared for the kid to have more success.

Julien is an old dog and playing youth over experience is not at all in his wheelhouse. The man is highly inflexible.

Scherbak sitting is a good sign as he shouldn't be playing on any NHL roster. Aside of him being a late 1st round pick coupled with the irrational love some posters have for prospects, he hasn't shown he could skate with men and he isn't skilled enough to be consistent in the big league. Peca is by far a superior player for a 3rd or 4th line role.

If he had Tkachuk stats, what would the hype be like? You know, the kid that sucked so much he couldn't hold JK's jock strap? Its hilarious to watch.
