Don't think the Ducks missed Pancake Penner in that years playoffs at all. He was really bad during his second stint with the team.

I don't think the Ducks will miss Maroon this year at all. He really didn't have a huge impact on games and McGinn is a better player so I think this is an upgrade.

It messes with the chemistry. Penner's trade did that and I'm scared Maroon's trade might do the same. The players are humans and are friends with one another. Losing your friend sucks.

Penner trade didn't affect chemistry, Getzlaf was the one who told BM Penner needed to get gone from the locker room. It was actually a good thing he left.

what did they say?

Button didn't hold back. He basically said he understood Edmonton's desire to get bigger, but Maroon is so slow and can't skate so he would be useless with the other forwards they have in their lineup. Biron was more diplomatic and said he wouldn't be an impact player but could play on their 4th line and stand in front of the net on the PP.

Do not like that Maroon move one bit. Why couldn't it wait til the offseason?

Getzlaf
Perry
Rakell
Perron
Kesler
Silfverberg
Cogliano
Pirri
McGinn
Stewart
Santorelli
Thompson
Horcoff
Garbutt
Maroon

That's 15 forwards once Pirri is healthy. One had to go. This also means we will go with 14 forwards and 7 defencemen when healthy, instead of 13/8.

what did they say?

They really just questioned it from an EDM position due to his lack of speed and how can he help with the guys they have. One of the commentators pointed out that 3 of his 4 goals this year were on the PP and that he would go to the net on the PP. So they all peacefully decided that was where he could possibly help the Oil.

To be fair, there was a high chance Maroon didn't have a spot in the line up on the basis of the moves made today (plus Horcoff is back soon). Garbutt pretty much made 4LW his own from now on too.

Still not a fan of the move being made now instead of the off-season though, would have preferred using Maroon as the spare part to insert into the line up over Santorelli.

If memory serves, Getz was fed up with Penner and wanted him out. Didn't really make a difference to the team then.

Maroon to me has never been worth his salary and with Getz and Perry split up he hasnt been able to ride their coat tails this year. He's had a pretty bad year and if moving him out saves some cash to sign some of our other FA's I'm all for it.

I'm pretty sure we have at least 8. Holzer was recalled from the Gulls earlier.

Think we have another trade in the works? Wondering why it's been so long and the prospects name hasn't been identified as of yet. A little suspicious of it

It's crazy...it's almost two and a half hours since the deadline ended and there still isn't a confirmation on the return for Maroon.

I have no idea anymore. Waiting to hear the return on the Paddy deal, and there were rumors of an incompleted CGY deal at one point too.

EDIT:

Martin Gernat it is. Gernat + 4th for Paddy. Personally I don't like the timing of the deal, and the return doesn't warrant the timing either. EDM fans saying he's been a regular healthy scratch for their AHL club, so there's that... :help:

Gernat is the prospect we are getting in return. 6'5" offensive D man. HF said he needs to get better in his own end, but could end up as a bottom pairing guy and PP specialist at some point.
