With the bad contracts we have, we can't afford to overpay for (another) PP specialist in Hoffman. Also, it seems to me that Q wants guys that are hard to play against more than "primarily skilled guys" and a guy like Fast would fit that perfectly.
It will be an interesting offseason for sure, who we add might not even be as impactful as who we ship out.

And that's fine, I'd rather go back to watching uneventful hockey than this garbage. Like I said, no problem letting them both go if they ask close to UFA money. But you're right just removing even one of Yandle/Math in the off-season will help a ton. Easier said than done though.

I've been a hoffman defender, but even I'm wary about signing him to a longer-term contract. He has his uses for sure, but I wouldn't want a contract longer than 4 years, maybe 5 years if the money is right. He stepped it up recently with the threat of getting moved and contract negotiations coming up, but he seems to be a guy who perform's best when there's pressure. Once he signs his big contract, will he still give us this same effort? I'm not so sure.

Yup. Hoff was terrible for about 20-30 games in a contract year. I can see him mailing it in half the season after getting his last big deal. Maybe get couple of good years of him.

Couldn't have said it better. For me, it's the durability factor you alluded to.
Dadonov plays the rougher role and when you realize Hoffman is producing more off the top line, it's Hoffman for me even more now.

You can get creative with Hoffman's deal but would sleep easier giving him a 4-5 year deal at $7+ million. He can finish on breakaways better as well and has shown the ability to simply shoot the puck, not over passing it.

Also it seems Tallon is trying to collect guys who can shoot first.
Plus we have Barkov, Huberdeau, Borgstrom, Denisenko, Luostarinen who all seem to be pass first guys.

Hoffman, Vatrano, Connolly, Saarela, Tippett can all snipe. Yes the latter two are still unproven but Barkov and Huberdeau are still good for 25ish goals as well.

Hoffman had the team leading point streak last year and highest one as well this year no? Dadonov has disappeared more imo and that's alarming when he gets majority of his time with Barkov and Huberdeau.

We would end up regretting that contract pretty soon imo.

I will go with Hoff...

I was a supporter of Daddy for a long time but he has been completely invisible for a long time now. We could easy put one of the younger in his place

Hoffmanns shot on the other hand is ubreplacable. And he has upped his overall game

It's still a tough call for me, if it comes down to one or another. Depends on what the contract details look like on either side. Hoffman definitely stands out a bit more because he's a bit more of a flashy player plus the big shot on the PP.

If you look at Dadonov, I completely disagree he's been invisible. The guy works and he goes to the front of the net probably better than any player on the team. Look at Haula's goal last game, Dads posted up in front of net, got checked down and still managed to make that pass for a goal.

I like both for different reasons and can't comment until I know what the contracts demands look like.

Do you suspect a big difference in pay though? Id say term is definitely 4 or 5 years for both but don't see more than 500k-750k gap in AAV

I think it's Hoffman hands down. You can replace what Dadonov brings to the first line, but Hoffman's shot is a more unique asset. I'm not a big fan of what he brings 5 on 5 but on the PP is very useful, ideally you sort of hide him on the 3rd line and then have him blast pucks from the point on the PP.

Agreed. Panthers have work to do but you don't want to lose identity of a team that can put the puck in the net. Barkov and Huberdeau are skilled offensive players but neither are snipers like Hoffman.

Of course it never feels right paying guys like him 7M but that's what the market value is for UFA's of his caliber.

Dadonov's return to the NHL has been good overall and honestly a bit better than what i expected, but it sort of feels like he hit his peak already.

Will either of them want to come back into this mess?
Maybe Hoffman's reputation around the league is still bad? One can hope...

We're sitting here acting like both of these guys would WANT to come back here. How can we be so sure?

Why WOULD they want to come back? Because winning here is meaningless? If so then why even bring them back?

Plenty of NHL teams would take 25-30 goal scorers for $5-6 Million.

I'd be shocked if either wants to come back to this dumpster fire.

Well. It will be a long time before we have a team that looks as good as ours did this year on paper.

This team has no compete and no passion. I'm sure they're happy to get to go home to their own beds and enjoy the rest of their summer.

I'm pretty positive when it comes to this team - but man - I'm done. There's no positives to pull from this season.

I don’t really want either back. If either want to come back I’ve got to question their motives. Either they come back because we overpay or come back because they know it’s low pressure. No competitor should want to be part of this team. I wish someone would be vocal like Eichel.
