If we are talking longterm deals here I'll only ask, how many longterm contracts starting at 31y(for non franchise players) end well?

Time after time they end up as anchors.

But if must I'd pick Dads because I think he's more likely to sign a shorter deal and with his KHL background I'd bet he'll be better on those last years.

I agree, I think Hoff will want a long term, expensive deal. He does seem to love playing in Florida though, so maybe he takes a deal more amenable to the Panthers.

Idk about that...I was bit surprised that there were no Panthers at his wedding....

I think the big thing with Hoffman is if teams discount him due to the Karlsson issue. A team feasibly might be less willing to invest if there are locker room concerns (which apparently are not true here)

Didn't vote. We need some validation of on-ice success. Let's see where we are in the standings around December 25th, then talk new contacts or potential trade partners. Doubt either one will be close to their current value or production in 3-4 years. If we do decide to keep them, then propose 3 years max. If they say no, deal them.

It would be great if Dale could figure out how to keep both players. Keeping one of Hoffman or Dadonov hurts the Cats' forward depth. Frankly, I'd probably pick Dadonov over Hoffman at this point for his versatility - but if Hoffman is out after this year they're going to need a winger to play with Trocheck and Vatrano. As it is, I'd like to see one more depth forward added to this group.

I'd let Hoff walk, unless we're out of it at the deadline, then trade him for a 1st rounder/nhl ready prospect.

Dadonov....I would offer him 4 years max at 6-7 per max. If he's not willing to do that, I would circle back to Hoffman (if he's still on the team by next summer).

The hope is daddy resigns at a similar 4mil/yr. Hoffman will be tricky cause he’ll undoubtedly want a pay increase. Hope the rfa re-signings come cheap to keep both players around cause they both play important roles.

Yeah, that isn't happening. And it is re-sign!

I would lean to keeping Dadonov, because I think he's the better overall player.

If he puts between 60 and 70 pts on the board again this year, he will never resigns at 4M$!

Why would he let so much money on the table?

Not going to happen...

The problem is how much we are paying our top-4 dmen who, as a unit, are atrocious. Cut the fat on the blueline this coming summer.

Pysyk will be gone regardless. It's a big year for Matheson...I think if we see more of the same, they'll start looking at suitors for him via trade.

No one is gonna touch that cap dump. You'd have to include Knight + 2nd round pick so that some rebuilding team might even consider it. How many buyout years Math has? 12 years? Math is a toxic asset at this point, however there's still some hope that he can turn it around.

I think there's potential to find a suitor, but it will likely be for another struggling asset.

Not really seeing the existential money threat that suggests one or the other. More just that we have affordable talent in the pipeline that needs to graduate.
Really don’t think it matters until we see either of them replicate their success from last year.

Dadonov has two seasons with us, and both were near 30 goal seasons (was snakebitten for a portion of both seasons). He is the more reliable of the two IMO. Hoffman is the one that has to replicate last season.

If this was the case then Dadonov's point totals wouldn't have a 26pts gap in comparison to that of Barkov.

Not necessarily at all. Reminds me a LOT of the West Coast Express line in Vancouver. Naslund and Bert always had ~25-30 pts more over the season than Morrison. but their chemistry was undeniable and they were one of the most dominant lines in the league for several years.

I think its one of those things where on paper, Dads makes more sense because of his versatility, but it just doesn't play out that way. You can not put a value on how important a player like Hoffman is for a team. His powerplay use alone makes him worth his pay day.

I also think the rest of Hoff's game is highly underrated and Daddys game is a bit overrated. Hoff's passing is surprisingly good and he and dads are equally good at entering the zone. Dads is just more of a hustler which, sure, thats great to have, but you can not discount Hoff's shot.

It always makes me laugh that there are some fans who are willing to let a sharpshooter go, when that's the one thing this franchise can never EVER find. Guys, we have our sharpshooter, we can not let a resource like Hoffy go.

This is not quite our case. Not to mention the fact that Huberdeau-Barkov-Dadonov line played together only a short part of last season, Dads had 17 PP points in the last season when Barkov had 31 and they both played in 1 PP unit. But with second best PP in the league last season, I don't consider this as a problem anyway. Maybe our PP system relies much more on other players (Hoffman, Yandle) and Dads plays quite supplementary role for it. He was very effective as a PP specialist in KHL and with Russian national team, though.

I don't think we can afford to lose Hoffman next season. With him and Dadonov hitting UFA, we're most likely only going to be able to retain one (if any).

What are your thoughts, do we resign him? If so, what do you think the contract would look like?

If I was DT I would let Dadonov walk - and my assumption is Hoffman would end up around 5 years at ~8mm

Good article on The Athletic about Hoff fitting in and the question of who we try to re-sign between him and Dadonov.

Since joining the Panthers, no one has had a negative word to say about Hoffman. He comes to practice every day ready to work and gets along great with his teammates.
The Panthers are going to have to make a decision on Hoffman’s future soon. It was thought that had Florida been able to lure Artemi Panarin south during the summer, Hoffman would already have been traded because of the salary cap.

Hoffman came into this season a pending free agent, so when this season ends, he is free to go elsewhere.
The Panthers have two of their top forwards becoming free agents and probably can afford to keep only one.
Will it be Hoffman or Evgenii Dadonov?
Right now, Hoffman is setting himself up for a nice payday come July 1. His three goals Saturday give him four already. Hoffman scored Florida’s first goal of the season Thursday in Tampa.

“It has been great ever since I got here. I have loved every second of it,” Hoffman said Saturday. “The guys here are great, ownership is great. It is definitely a fun place to play and we were able to pick up some key acquisitions over the summer. That’s a positive thing and I’m looking forward to the future.
“I am going to do the best I can for this hockey club this year and I will let everything else kind of sort itself out.”

If Dalé is smart he'll sign Hoffman when the season is half way through and let Dadonov walk if he doesn't accept a decent discount.
