I think Devils fans will enjoy this:

at around 5:15 Ty smith makes his first apperence. Gallagher's father is training Smith since a young age, and Gallagher is his Mentor/big bro.
Pretty interesting to see the chemistry between Gallagher and Smith

That ping pong match was perfect example of fwd mindset vs d-man mindset. Ty had some impressive returns though.

Keep your eye out for that little kid in the future... he's got a wicked shot!

Glad he got a gold medal with Canada at World Juniors but was hoping he would of had a bigger role on the team. Let's see how far his WHL team goes this season.

Alternative captain on Canada and played on first pairing. And was usually on ice in a shut down role in the final minutes of the 3rd period. He had a pretty big role at World Juniors. The only additional thing Canada could of given Smith is power play time.

Wasn't aware he got top pairing minutes and was played in a shutdown role. I'm glad he was trusted in those situations and the thought of him and Bahl being left handed players is reassuring knowing they will help the big club hopefully soon.

Smith is left handed but played right defense.

Honestly Smith could have been our third best but that isn’t saying much. Just it would be behind Vats and Subban.
C'mon, we can argue Sev's because of his glaring mistakes, but Smith was not going to be better then Greene.

Greene continues to be under appreciated while Smith is getting pumped up despite a pretty poor preseason with the Devils.

I was under the impression that he's playing RD because of team need, not because that's his preferred side. IIRC in the preseason he played on the left side.
But has consistently played the right side in juniors. For a kid with talented play making and offensive potential, the off side opens up a lot. But it’s less than ideal defensively because of the need to chase down pucks in the corner and make backhand exit passes and to turn across ones body to follow guys passing you down the boards. It’s a puzzle if we expect him to solve our issues at left defense. Hopefully puzzles can be solved.

Seems like stats wise he's doing worse every year. Having done well over ppg as a 17 year old, you'd expect him to absolutely crush it as a 19 year old. But instead he's doing way worse. He also looked a lot better in the 2018 pre-season training camp, than in 2019, so the signs aren't looking good :(

You missed games played. He had better stats last year than 2 years ago.

His stats are down this year but it’s only half a season and defenseman stats can get funky year to year. It’s not ideal but also not a huge concern for his NHL future.
