Did they trade for him at a high or a low point in terms of his value? Simple question with an obvious answer.
I dont get the relevance of the question because wouldn't you rather find an asset at a low point in value and bring their value up? Like this is a 3rd in 2027, how much value do you think an asset that won't even be known for 4 more drafts has?

You're free to hate it before he steps on the ice but no need to come in here complaining that you wish people would say the deal is questionable just because you do.

Toronto made essentially the same deal for a rental in Edmundson and no one is laughing at them for it.

Sweeney wasn't going to pay for rentals but was willing to pay a little more to have control of the player for a few more years.

I don't love the deal or the player but it ain't as bad as this place makes some of you think it is.
I'm laughing at the EdmundsTurtle rental in Toronto.

People pointing to last season and dismissing it for Peeke by saying he was on a bad team are ignoring that he's played worse this year to the point where he's a healthy scratch. The Bruins just gave up actual assets for Columbuses equivalent to our own Derek Forbert, but with term and they took on full salary. Think how happy we'd all be if someone gave the team a third for that guy.

Now that being said, you can be down on the move and dislike the fact that they ate all the money for a buyout candidate, and still want the player to do well and contribute to the team in a positive way. And if he does that it will be great, but that still doesn't dismiss the fact that they bought a player at his lowest value, ate all the money, and gave up a fairly valuable pick to do so. It was a dumb move and needless to do.
Forbort never would have been scratched if he were healthy. Big difference

His skill set seems similar to Carlo, big guy who skates well, not particularly great with the puck. He brings a more physical edge then Carlo from everything I have heard. You just wonder if he had been with a team like Boston and not Columbus if he would be in Carlo's class as a player. Anyways looking forward to watching him develop further under the Bruins tutelage.

Agreed.

Say next year Peeke plays at a similar level to this season. Fans here will be offloading excuses of "Well he hasn't been in the system long enough."

Meanwhile we're a contending team looking to make trades, at the 2025 deadline even, and we're sitting here wondering why we can't and it's because we decided we needed another John Moore, or Derek Forbort at the 2024 deadline.

Or extend that scenario to 2026.

The worst part is not only did we actively sign up for this potential outcome but we gave up a 3rd for it!

People here will say, "ah well it was worth the risk! he's a tall defenseman and plays physical, that's what we needed!"

Is this actually worth the risk? Better hope our hometown scouts are right and he is a formidable player.

If he plays 25 games next year (due to performance not injury). Fans will not be making excuses . Most of the board will kill them for the deal, and rightly so.

But that is if he fails Absolutely no reason to kill them for the deal before he puts the uniform on once.

FWIW I was reading thru the trade thread on the main board and Columbus fans were instantly saying 'steal if Bostons taking on the whole contract'

He is a good shit stirrer
He’s really good at it -he does bounce back and forth between serious and goofing off

There usually is a positive silly don’t take this so serious vibe

He can be pretty funny

He doesn’t take himself all that serious

The best part is he doesn’t give the callers much time to rant

He does make stuff up at times and will mine for some story that is negative when 99% aren’t -

It’s understandable why that show kicks ass

The question is does Adam McQuaid & Jamie Langenbrunner know more then us

Peek playing the rest of the season will play more NHL games than the average 3rd round pick so it’s already a win statistically

He’s a younger right side shot blocking PK who’s more physical then Forbort

Tough to judge anyone who’s played in Columbus - he was a very high draft pick with a lot to like

he starts off with s lot of attributes that can’t or don’t need to be taught

Structure can be taught and simplistic mind set

McQuaid will likely give him fighting tips
