Clarky was fine until started to score. Then he forgot who he was and what his job was. You want more money you better do a whole lot more first. CYA

Depending on the price he may get with another team, he'll likely have been worth passing over, but either way, should we lose him, that is yet another offensive piece we have to replace on an offensively depleted team with not many great offensive options available - and the physical play from our team takes a hit as well

This!

Where are the goals going to come from? Briere is not going to cut it.

If we could get someone to semi replace Parise then that would be great. I mean if guys perform to their potential this year, and we add a couple pieces then we could be back where we were in 11-12. I still think we're gonna probably suck in the shootout though. The goaltending just got a lot better, but I'm just hoping that if both are healthy that we get to see Schneids in more than just the back to back games.

If Clarkie ended up a Devil again, I think the OP (or whomever can do this) should change the title to :

hiya clarky :sarcasm:

Welcome back Clarky!:handclap::laugh:

I seriously would love to have Clarkson at $4.5 million a year. Even $4.75 might be reasonable. He just became a UFA in the wrong year. If he had another year of proving to score 20+ goals then that would really give us a better gauge as to how much he's worth.

If he does come back we are paying him 5. You can book it that Lou would overpay and give him that. How much that hurts depends on the length, but I do see Lou doing that. Much rather 4.5 though, but no way that would get it done if even a bit of the crazy offers are floating around.

Lou probably already offered him that. I have a feeling he either offered him what he was worth, or slightly over that out of respect. He's got such nerve too. I never thought of him as a guy who would chase money either.

I think he offered him 5 too, or if he hasn't he will by Friday. Then it all depends if that crazy **** about people offering him 6 is true or not. If nothing much over 5 is out there he will crawl back, if there is he will leave and do us a favor because that would be a huge hideous contract.

I want him back, but bad contracts bleed a team worse then a missing third liner.

Yeah he's just not proven enough for that kind of contract. Being a UFA this year, and the lockout shortened season also hurt him. He's only been this dynamic goal scorer for the last 130 games, and for the last 34 of them he was inconsistent as hell.

He scored at a 12 goal per year pace for the last 34 games, after scoring at a 40+ goal pace the first 14. As I've said, he was outscored by the entire 4th line, and Poni for a large stretch there. During the last week or two he might have beaten them out just based on the last handful of games. It always seemed when Patty was gaining on him, he would score a goal to keep the team lead!

Could you imagine if Toronto throws 6M at him I think I'd die laughing to be honest.

If that happens then people would wonder if this guy was re-hired :

A couple Toronto fans in that mainboard thread think signing him for that much is a good deal, and that we're just having sour grapes over him leaving, to anyone who says he falls down and can't skate.

Then there's a few Toronto fans in there who don't even wanna touch him.

Those are the fans who "get it".

The others who think it's sour grapes obviously haven't watched Clarkie play as much as we have.

Those Leafs fans will be begging us to take him back. Bruins fans too if he goes there (highly doubt they overpay for him though...interested or not)

I kinda hope he goes to the Flyers, or Rangers but he probably won't. That contract would make them way worse if it was for that much. That's the kinda move that could cripple either of those teams, and possibly prevent them from remaining competitive.

There don't seem to be too many Leafs fans who think he'd be a good deal at 5+

But there are plenty who think he'll take a "discount" to play for them.
Which, you never know, might be true. I won't try to hazard a guess.

I know it isn't done yet, but I believe that's where he's going. He's all but signed with the Leafs to me. Why does it seem our players/coaches go home though to their local teams? We had that coach that did it, Zach, and now David possibly? I mean I know Zach got a lot of money, and Dave probably will too. We've gotta be the team with the most casualties lost to hometown teams. Or at least if this Clarkson to Toronto comes true.

I think he wanted to stay though. He wanted a slight raise up from what he was making, and Lou said no. It was either Lou only wanted to give him a slight raise, and he wanted just a little bit more, or Lou wanted to give him no raise and wanted him to make the same he did on the last contract. Either way it was supposed to have been much less than what he signed for with the Wings.

Apparently he got the same offer from Detroit with a couple other teams. I think the Flyers, or division teams were one of them. He saw Detroit wanted him, and decided to go there cause he was from there, and grew up as Red Wings fan. I don't think he ever had it in his head he was gonna go to Detroit beforehand though.

He falls down all the damn time. Love the guy, but that is so much money for a guy that can barely skate.

this. i just don't get it. year after year he just falls over by himself.

if you did a drinking game of taking a shot every time he fell over due to himself, you'd be terribly drunk by the end of the game.

sorry, i just don't see his value over $4mil per year, and that's being generous.
if he wants to be greedy and get more elsewhere, gtfo, and don't let the door hit you on your way out.

NJ has continuously showed faith in this guy but he's possibly showing his true colors. We signed him when he went undrafted. We gave him a chance to be more than just a middleweight goon by putting him on the power play and 2nd line playing with Elias. 3 years ago, we re-signed him to a contract with a cap ht of $3mil when many fans thought that was too much. Now, with going to UFA, I suspect we made him a very "generous" offer, probably one that was more than he rightfully deserves yet he rebuffs it.

I think the type of guy he is, he would take a bit less to stay in NJ unless the offer was from Toronto. If NJ was within 500K, then he would stay. I think that's why he's asking for $6mil per. If he can get t, then he will certainly move on but if no one offers up more than 5, he'll re-sign with NJ.

Teams will move salary around but this is big money and with the cap coming down, most teams are looking to cut, not splurge on a bloated salary.
