If Lou and Conte wouldn't give Clarkson what he wanted, should other teams hesitate?

When teams see that Lou of all people hesitates in giving Clarkie "stupid" money, then they'll be like "Wait a sec here.....?? "

You are correct, BG.

Nothing against Clarkson, he's a favourite, but he's gonna get paid way too much. He's not a $5m plus player. Can't blame him or Lou for not re-signing him.

I hope he goes to Ottawa, he'd be bigger than Neil.

Is David Clarkson much different than Ryan Malone was 5 years ago? Malone had 3 years in TB similar to his best year, but not better.

Because we're so broke, we could only afford to pay him in leftover rally towels and butterscotch candies out of Lou's pocket :puppy:

One huge scheme. News breaks soo current UFA's have to decide whether they want to stay or not. In reality we are super rich and have all the money in the world. Lou's test to see who is Loyal or not

Lou is sharpening the guillotine in his office right now. 11:59 tomorrow Clarkson signs or off with his head.

I am literally scared ****less that Nonis is going to blow his wad and sign Clarkson for a +5M avg long term contract. (Nevermind this +6M crazy **** some people are talking about)

Is his physicality really enough to make him worth that much, when another, nonphysical player who puts up 20-25g, 40-45 points, would probably only get ~3-3.5M?

Like, I can see him being useful in the playoffs... but he really doesnt seem like someone who is going to win you games.

Is Clarkson going to be the biggest trap of the summer?

Honestly at those prices yes he is a big trap.

He plays his heart out, can be tough, though seems to have lost some of that since his one 30 goal season. He falls down a lot. He seems to shoot way to much straight into the logo when the pass would of been the better option.

That said he has a knack for some dramatic goals, and lots of tip ins and garbage goals.

Basically he is a slow, but tough good third liner that can score. He is a type of player most teams would want, BUT not at that price. He is not a top 6 player and if put in that role he will fail because he isn't talented enough or has a good enough shot to be any kind of sniper, and lacks the pure hockey sense to be any kind of playmaker. The type of traits you want in a top 6 player.

Personally dude I'm not sure where the Clarkson boner seems to be coming from. I was sure guys like Clowe and Weiss were gonna make more, but it seems like they aren't. He's been very overhyped recently here. Hopefully for your sake he chases the money to Edmonton.

I like that Lou seems to be standing strong and letting him walk for the dumb money. Plenty of players that can fill his role in. Clowe being a good example.

He's a very valuable player but not deserving of a long term contract at 5 mil plus.

I'd fear the dawn if Nonis was GM of my team haha.

But yeah, Clarkson is not worth the money he's going to be getting. If its anything more than 4.5 (which IMO is still too much 3.5-4 would be perfect), than its robbery and you will not like the contract shortly after unless its less than 4 years.

He's a good complimentary player, but hes not good enough to command the terms he's likely going to receive.

I'm glad he isn't treating Clarkson the same way as Parise. My wish was that he wouldn't, because he's just not worth it. He's not Zach Parise, and shouldn't be treated like him, and he isn't being treated like him.

Pretty much my expectation is Clarkson has an idea of what kind of money is out there for sure now. I think he will go back to Lou one last time to see if he will budge to keep him.

IF the money is as crazy as it sounds it might, Lou most likely won't budge and Clarkson will sign in Canada somewhere.

There is a slim possibility that all the GMs up north HAVEN'T lost their minds and put more realistic offers his way. Only way I can see him coming and taking whatever Lou offered, or getting anything more out of Lou.

Lou is going to give him two options.

- Sign here for a reasonable price and continue to enjoy his career and improve.

- Sign elsewhere to cash in bigtime, risk not living up to the contract and deal with possible buyout, waiver or trade rumors in the future and not know where you or your family is going to end up living.

Not to mention all hope of a decent next contract going right out the window.

I think Lou's already gave him that offer. MAYBE he calls and sends one last offer slightly better then what he already offered, but ya that is most likely all Clarkson is getting out of Lou.

I hope whoever signs Clarkson hasn't already used up both of their compliance buyouts for next season. If he gets a contract anywhere close to what he's rumored to be expecting, i can definitely see his new team getting cold feet in the next off-season.

That's no slight to Clarkson, but he's going to be paid to be something he isn't, even if he has a career year and puts up another 30G season it would still be difficult to justify giving him 6M/year. Not to mention, 30G or not, he has other glaring weaknesses in his game that are going to raise concerns for his new suitors.

Wouldn't be shocked at ALL to see Clarkson bought out at the end of the season if he really gets 6M/yr from someone.
