My parents got their appointment for their vaccine, March 13th. f***ing great.
Keep rolling these out, and reopen shit up. I NEED TO GO TO THE GYM.
Likewise. I'm stubbornly refusing to buy a treadmill and home equipment to address a temporary situation, so I'm running outside and doing floor exercises. But it's not the same, and I don't like running in the cold on slippery roads. There are muscle groups I haven't used in a year.

You have to wonder how/if the gym industry is going to recover. Like restaurants, even once they're open many people will refuse to go back because of fear. Without government assistance they'll be on their own; I'm guessing we'll see a shitload of bankruptcies in both those sectors.

I am super, super tempted to invest in a manual treadmill. They are not cheap, but these things are really fun and they really simulate running outside very well. I am having a lot of issues running outside, my knees take a real beating with those hard sidewalks.

There's already been a bunch of permanent closings. It will likely continue.
I don't know why they've shown a complete lack of interest or empathy for those business owners. They barely get a mention.
Restaurants, while I fully feel bad, have at least managed to continue selling their products through deliveries. Gyms however, have had nothing.
You can go to a porn movie theatre...but you can't open up gyms with limits? Completely asinine.

Just go to the adult movie theater to get your exercise in. :naughty:

Its not that bad here in BC far as closures. Our hockey league has been down since Dec, all the stores and restaurants have been open all along. Schools haven't closed.

Im not really allowed to comment much on all of this. I'll just say it kind of sucks to have the restrictions, but see the numbers we've had. Hope were approaching the finish line.

My speculation: Gyms and Restaurants should open 3 weeks after groups age 65+ are vaccinated in montreal/laval

That would go early May.

I’m in the same boat. I’m down about 20 lbs since initial shutdown, my mood sucks and I feel sluggish. I do body weight stuff, I hiked all summer, do about 10-20k steps a day cuz of my job and run with my dog too, but it’s just not the same. I’m a mess when I can’t deal with my energy the way I need to. I need winter to end and gyms to open ASAP.

Don't run on sidewalks, run in the woods. I'm a runner, go up to 40km a week every summer. At my age if I ran on sidewalks I'd be always injured.

Yeah, it's an unfortunate hard realization to come to that I can't handle running on the roads anymore. Some of my favorite times running were through the city over the years. I tore my meniscus getting up awkwardly with my kid, and the resulting limp ended up causing a partial tear in the other knee. The partial tear seems to be alright, but the initial knee injury just never fully went away. I went to physio, I went to doctors. The doctors suggest surgery, but the physio told me not to bother because it won't help. My mom and sister have each torn both meniscus in their knees. My mom's had surgery 3 times, and still has issues. My sister just had one knee done and elected not to do the other because it didn't do anything. She was a high level soccer player, teetering on playing professionally, but ultimately ended up retiring (not much of a market for women's pro soccer anyway).

Spent a lot of time rehabbing and building strength in my knee, with no running. Finally I felt I was ready. Went for 3 runs outside on the roads, no problem. Kept it slow and didn't overdo it. About 4 weeks in I could hardly walk anymore, all progress gone. Was very hard to accept that.

There's a track 5 mins from my house, nice and soft. I'm going to try that once the weather improves.

My father has had multiple knee surgeries, ultimately they give you short-term comfort but some degree of functional destruction. So learning from him, I've always said no to surgery.

I fell off a speaker while breakdancing when I was young. Leg straight, grade 3 tear, took a year just to walk. Took 2 years of walking on big hills to rehab. 2 years to run on a soft surface. Now I can do anything I want again, but I prefer not to do it. Fell in love with the woods.

Ultimately it's all about leg strength the knee shouldn't have to absorb much.

After their mishandling of the situation two weeks ago, he needed something to turn attention somewhere else.
Political games with people's life.
That's pretty sad, especially since I've heard Houston has become the Variant Master and practically caught them all. Could be disastrous.

Just saw Mississippi is doing the same, starting tomorrow in their case.

That's rough! Quite the journey. I have always had some level of pain in my knees, even before the injury. I have very tight muscles and it's led to some imbalances. As a result, I often have sore knees, sore hips, IT band pain, runner's knee, hamstring injuries, foot injuries (plantar fasciitis related), etc... It gets better with stretching, of course, but requires a significant amount of stretching, foam roller, the whole shebang. As I get older, I realize more and more I can't get away without at least 30 mins of stretching out my legs every day. Nowadays it's 100% a given I will have runner's knee and other knee pains after a run, even a short one, unless I stretch a lot.

I'm 43

1) Try Yoga.
2) Try a walking regimen with your running. Runners tend to have muscles weaknesses that are repaired by walking.

I walk a tough 6km every morning. Then I run around 4pm.
