I've mentioned this lady friend of mine who's been a hardline denier since day-one. She and I have reached a detente where she's careful about what she says and I back off calling her theories what I'd like to call them. But then there are her friends. A few months ago I sat in one of her friend's apartments and listened to this friend earnestly explain how the virus was man-made... the goal was to reset the world so that Bill Gates could implant microchips and control everyone through vaccinations... something something lizard people and ancient prophecies. Hospitals were really empty and people hadn't died -- it was all part of the media plot to create fear. Seriously. I felt like a walked off the transporter pad and saw Spock with a beard. This lady -- who's very nice otherwise -- was dead serious about all of this.
On the one hand, I was a guest at her place and didn't want to insult anyone. On the other hand, she was batshit crazy. I politely tap-danced about how nice it is to believe something so deeply and the importance of knowing the difference between a belief and a fact. I asked where I could find evidence of all this stuff she mentioned. Silly me. Apparently, all the proof was right there through the YouTube experts she follows, and of course the energy she accesses through the universe and her ancestors. Okay then....
A few days later my friend called me up and blasted me for being so arrogant. I snapped back that if she wanted to hang out with people who nodded their heads at every whack job theory without questioning anything, join a freakin cult. It's calmed down since, and to be fair, she and her friends are mostly respectful when they're out among other people. But this is the mindset of some people -- they have no interest in established sources or scientific facts. It's all about what they feel.
This is my biggest worry with mutations and it seems to becoming real in the UK which means we will be facing the same thing in a few weeks as the UK strain starts to make its way around the population here.
Covid wards 'full of children' for first time in pandemic, warn nurses
Maybe people will start believing the science if kids start getting hospitalized.

750K is ridiculous. Nobody will get fined as much. Most people can't afford a 750K mortage spread over 40 years. You could easily argue your way out of this in court.
They should make the fines affordable, like 5-10K.
I wasn't embellishing. Another guest mentioned wanting the vaccine when it came out, and this lady knelt next to him, put her hands on his knees and launched into that intense rant about Bill Gates and lizards. It was 12 minutes of surreal lunacy. The poor guy politely listened (while probably enjoying having her face close to his), another lady remained quiet, my friend was wide-eyed nodding her head, and I sat there with my teeth gritted, taking deep breaths through my nose.Don't gloss over the best part...what's that about lizard people? Is BG a lizard? Do we get a choice of species?

It's one of those intensely weird moments of my life that will become polished into a lifelong anecdote.

Jeez, I could visualize the whole thing like a movie scene, a pandemic porno flick lol.I wasn't embellishing. This sounds like a scene out of a movie.
There's something to this. We've never been bombarded with so much social stimuli hitting us 24/7. Every URL offers belonging in some form -- you're either a valued customer, a fellow fan, a potential date, a loyal follower, or a soldier battling an enemy. We're hooked in so many ways by so many people on so many platforms... imagine what that flood of content is doing to our cognition. We can't process all of it, but being social creatures, we usually choose content that reinforces social belonging over cold facts. We'd rather share a delusion with a group than be alone with the truth. It's mental illness, sad to say. A few years from now we'll have a proper name for it, but this is a new form of mental illness being brought out by social media and YouTube shit. We never had disinformation at this scale. Just like how certain drugs can trigger latent schizophrenia in some people, I sincerely believe having access and time to binge this sort of sick conspiracy crap is triggering some kind of latent mental disease in some people.
It is not normal to just believe this stuff. It's a mental disease. Their brains are broken and unable to perceive reality properly. Their grasp on reality is warped.
I hope one day we can find the right medications to help these people.
She had a stripper pole in the middle of the living room. This sounds like a scene out of a movie.
Truthfully as crazy as these theories are, these people aren’t gonna do shit. People act like they’re about to start fighting over the most ridiculous theories. Lockdowns are definitely helping people develop these theories, but once things open back up they’ll go back to gossiping about people and other mundane garbage that comes with normalcy.
She had a stripper pole in the middle of the living room.
I'm not kidding.

Lol..Maybe you should get out more (once we have herd immunity, of course).
You might need new friends.
Lol..
That's what my wife says when I'm on this board.

Um... it might be best to keep the lizard stripper lady between us.Does she not mind the stripper pole lady? I feel like HFHabs needs to have a rager in this apartment when Covid is gone.
You'll think I'm making this up, but she showed us a routine on the poll... wearing 8-inch heels. She talked my female friend and the other lady into trying some moves too. So I'm sitting there watching a lizard stripper and two other women contort their bodies in a group pole dance as a warmup to the anti-vax plandemic seance.Did she perform any power moves while sporting 8 inch elevator shoes? Did she mention what the historical significance of the pole is?
Going to her house sounds like a convenient way to avoid those exorbitant alcohol prices from the dingy places of business where stripper poles are normally found.

To be honest, I have one uncle who has weird stories to tell all the time. So.. no surprise there. He won't kneel next to you to tell them though.
Yes they will. Politicians are allowed to travel like everyone else. It's discouraged but not forbidden, why would people not isolate because some politicians traveled? All the while politicians continue to travel the world, you think Jimmy & Timmy are going to listen now?
