This seems like a terrible idea. UK is allowing mixing the 2 doses of vaccine from different producer.
They are panicking because of the fast rise of the new variant.

Hospitals in the UK have fallen apart. There are chilling emails leaked from hospital administration saying they are in disaster medicine only mode and no longer providing high quality medical care. Basically if you show up to the hospital with a broken leg or heart attack or car accident injury, good luck.

My friend is a neurologist in the UK but has been moved to COVID wards as have many other specialists. He said at this point, if you require hospitalization for COVID then you will likely die unless you can get over it yourself. No advantage to even going to the hospital at this point. They are out of oxygen. Not enough staff to help you and no space.

ER (A&E as they call it) is basically closed. You can't walk in to the ER where he's at as there is nobody working there. Everyone is doing COVID. If you have a non life threatening injury like a broken limb, need stitches, etc... you will not be seen at the hospital. If you are on the brink of death like a heart attack, stroke, major trauma, etc... it's basically 50-50 you will see a doctor in time, if even at all.

But then you tell this to covidiots and they ignore it, claiming it as fake news

They already stretched the time period to get the 2nd dose from 21 days to 12 weeks to maximize the number of people getting the 1st shot in a short time frame, so yeah, they are pretty desperate over there.

Meanwhile Pfizer is like "Dude, we have no idea what going to happen if you wait that long to give the 2nd shot..."

And they just added another record of 57,725 new cases.....5th straight days above 50,000 for the UK.
Their situation seems pretty bad.

He told me there is a video circulating where he's from that shows a completely empty hospital, like no patients or staff. They are trying to claim this is proof that COVID is a hoax but the reality is they had to move everyone to help with COVID patients. They aren't accepting new people at the hospital. You could get shot and show up to the hospital and you'll die because nobody is there to even take your name.

I had this conversation with a friend the other day. Not sure but every hospital I’ve ever been in, the ICU is no where near any of the entrances or public areas... they could be ram packed and you’d have no way to know. The rest of the hospitals are definitely empty, people aren’t going there for a cough or a paper cut anymore.

I was at the Montreal General recently and the COVID wards are not even in the main hospital. They moved everything to keep things completely isolated. My doctor told me that it is a f***ing mess right now, that hospitals in Montreal are weeks away from falling apart. But they are hoping things will stabilize before this point.

No way things stabilize with all the holidays.

I expect we have around 3500-4000 cases for the next week (Christmas numbers)

If WHO is correct and this virus is endemic... better hope these vaccines stop the spread and not just the symptoms. If not, we will all be wearing masks for a very long time.

Bullshit.

Try to enforce that. When the first lockdown came down in March everyone re-entering the country was suppose to isolate for 14 days then too. Do you know how many stories I’ve heard from people I know that ran into some of their friends or neighbours in a grocery store or Wal-Mart literally a day or two later? It was unbelievable.

The government doesn’t have the resources to adequately enforce this, and it’s totally based on the honour system - clearly not enough.

The first time around there was a lot of uncertainty and travel plans had already been made. Right now though, there's been a lot of backlash towards the people traveling, I don't know who's going to be so careless to break the quarantine. Everyone who traveled also knew they'd have to isolate for 14, they planned their travels knowing this.

Actually charge people the fine when they get caught. It's 750k. Personally bankrupt these people for breaking the rules. Trust me people will follow the rules if consequences are real. The money collected will pay for these measures.

750K is ridiculous. Nobody will get fined as much. Most people can't afford a 750K mortage spread over 40 years. You could easily argue your way out of this in court.
They should make the fines affordable, like 5-10K.

Realistically, nothing bad. Efficacy might go from 90% to 60 ot 70%, but a lower protection rate for a wider population seems like a nice gamble.

I've mentioned this lady friend of mine who's been a hardline denier since day-one. She and I have reached a detente where she's careful about what she says and I back off calling her theories what I'd like to call them. But then there are her friends. A few months ago I sat in one of her friend's apartments and listened to this friend earnestly explain how the virus was man-made... the goal was to reset the world so that Bill Gates could implant microchips and control everyone through vaccinations... something something lizard people and ancient prophecies. Hospitals were really empty and people hadn't died -- it was all part of the media plot to create fear. Seriously. I felt like a walked off the transporter pad and saw Spock with a beard. This lady -- who's very nice otherwise -- was dead serious about all of this.

On the one hand, I was a guest at her place and didn't want to insult anyone. On the other hand, she was batshit crazy. I politely tap-danced about how nice it is to believe something so deeply and the importance of knowing the difference between a belief and a fact. I asked where I could find evidence of all this stuff she mentioned. Silly me. Apparently, all the proof was right there through the YouTube experts she follows, and of course the energy she accesses through the universe and her ancestors. Okay then....

A few days later my friend called me up and blasted me for being so arrogant. I snapped back that if she wanted to hang out with people who nodded their heads at every whack job theory without questioning anything, join a freakin cult. It's calmed down since, and to be fair, she and her friends are mostly respectful when they're out among other people. But this is the mindset of some people -- they have no interest in established sources or scientific facts. It's all about what they feel.

Well, you can't use "nothing bad" in that context since the purpose of a vaccine is to offer protection, compromising that protection certainly fall under the definition of something bad.

The whole point is they don't know how effective it will be if you wait that long between dose.

Truthfully as crazy as these theories are, these people aren’t gonna do shit. People act like they’re about to start fighting over the most ridiculous theories. Lockdowns are definitely helping people develop these theories, but once things open back up they’ll go back to gossiping about people and other mundane garbage that comes with normalcy.

When woke ideology (respecting everybody's feeling ahead of defending free speech) mixes with internet charlatans = no more truth can exist.

Well yeah but what I meant is people won't get more side effects or die from the vaccine because they only had one dose.

Looking at it through a societal lense, more people being protected is better.

Edit appears it's 52% after the first shot Covid-19: Pfizer vaccine efficacy was 52% after first dose and 95% after second dose, paper shows.

they're not gonna do shit in a manner that you can see or touch concretely, but they're normalizing insanity and it does have a significant impact overall

when you have like 20-25% of this forum voting that they don't want to get the vaccine, it's almost impossible to pinpoint the exact cause, but the normalization of anti-science speech by people who go "ah whatever these people won't do anything anyway" does play a role in it sadly. Deplatforming anti-science and conspiracy bullshit is important

not attacking you btw i'm just saying, everyone needs to be careful about dismissing crazy people as "just crazy"

Don't gloss over the best part...what's that about lizard people? Is BG a lizard? Do we get a choice of species?
