I'm a little confused on the whole skating rinks and the like being open still. I understand no outdoor social gatherings, so I can only go with my cohort, but if I coincidentally run into a family I know and we skate on the same rink, is that different than if we had planned beforehand to go skating at the same time? Is the difference in the two intent to be around people you know vs be around strangers?

I don't see myself taking the risk of doing anything like that personally, but I'm not a fan of the grey areas in the restrictions that seem to appear every time new measures are put into place.

Pretty sure it says outdoor recreation is still open so ski hills, tobagonning etc should still be a go. "Hotels may remain open but must follow all relevant restrictions. Outdoor recreation is permitted but facilities with indoor space will be closed except for the washrooms."

It also specifies indoor arenas and rinks so I guess outdoor arenas are still good. Why would the specify "indoor" if closing them all.

Not really that clear. I'll use an example. On our block, down by school and park there is a toboggan hill. All the local kids have been going there for weeks. all of them are neighbors, they know each other. Tell me its allowed or not under what measures were announced today. you can't.

Its presumptive application of guidelines. You can define the same activity as "hey these people know each other and went here and gathered" or that they didn't, depending on how any particular enforcement authority happened to feel in the moment. It'll be lol seeing the lil toboggan hill shutdown for some, others that say that they dont know each other, we swear on oath, be allowed..

Not trying to be obtuse either. These announced rules and desriptions and clarification in the presser are inane. There will certainly be further questions asked of this. Hopefully better clarifications.

ps outdoor arenas have not been open anywhere in my neighborhood. until now it had been left to communites what they want to do and most going no, because of confusion, concerns. That confusion just got amplified today.

EXACTLY the type of question I'm asking. The confusion is immense.

This is the point that restrictions become unhelpful when people are still asking what they mean.

it seems like inference and conjecture. Somebody asks a question and just say you never met your wife, brother, inlaws, and cousins ever before, stop each other from referring to each other by name. "hey complete stranger, pass the puck" just in case anybody is watching...

Well, you are saying that the Premier is a dipshit because of his actions so I am asking what an alternative politician could/should do?
How about get things under control so thousands of your citizens don't get sick while you sit and watch because you don't want to piss off your voters or "infringe on their rights" instead of keeping people healthy?

You trying to turn this into Notley/Kenney says all I need to know about you. Goodbye.

IMO The dipshit would probably be leading the anti masker rallies and standing with the "freedom" of businesses if the seemingly more socialist alternate was in charge.

Well, you've expressed your opinions hundreds of times on this thread so I guess that's democracy in action.

Not sure what that means. I don't even recall discussing anything with you and that was the first time I ever commented on your post about what the court in Quebec did.

Edit: I do like to add IMO in my posts where I don't know the facts and numbers.

I'm obviously just playing. Wish Heritage was still here, loved that one as well. Sh Pk Mall kind of sleepy, least they have a movie theater. To me I walk in there and I swear its like tired Bonnie Doon mall. Really old.

It’s light years better than when worked there my entire high school and university years. Man it was desolate back then

Control the pandemic better than literally anywhere else in the world besides the US. There is absolutely no doubt that the leadership in Alberta has failed. Us health care workers have been saying this for weeks now.

No one is slagging the efforts of the health care workers. The question is do the lockouts regarding Christmas go too far?

I am pro-mask, pro distancing and I have told a few people that down at 7-11 (who didn't bother to mask up) but do the regulations go too far and what should have been done up until now to avoid this situation? That's what I am asking.

I'll sit back and let you guys have the last word.

Not sure if I agree. There are many more worse places in the world in terms of handling this pandemic. I am on the same side of the fence as you overall.
Wave 1 was flattened very nicely here. The grants , mortgage deferrals and extra tax funds were good as well. Numbers in Edmonton were very low up until September.

We lost the way since and didn't take notice of the global trend of wave 2 until it was too late.

Hopefully by the end of these 4 weeks we have the seniors vaccinated and things start to ease up. Show us the end picture and we can handle 4 weeks of restrictions.

Quadrupling the restart grant for businesses was decent I guess. I’ll give Kenney credit for that.

Beats small businesses being capitulated into taking Trudeaus further loans just to survive.

The restrictions in place now and financial relief forthcoming should have been in place a couple weeks ago. People laugh at those businesses wanting to stay open, but I don’t think it’s fully appreciated how crippling to small businesses this has been.

I’m a libertarian and a “I’ll pull myself up by my own damn bootstraps” type of Alberta boy, but some serious Provincial and Federal relief for small businesses is utterly urgent and required. So many people have nearly lost everything they’ve worked for during this pandemic and this gets lost sometimes.

I understand the public health crisis level concerns vitiate the Charter intrusions, but it’s nice to see some business relief at the Provincial level being put forward.

While it has taken far to too long for these measures to be put in place, I am glad they finally are being implemented.

These past 6 or so weeks it has been embarrassing being an Albertan.

Actually, that's pretty much how I feel about being a Canadian so I guess I know the feeling.

Don't expect many to agree with you, unfortunately. Lots of folks seem to think all forms of capitalism are bad.

And that's the great thing about living here, we can be friends and have differing opinions.

Having traveled extensively, I am very thankful for being Canadian.
