  • Bend the curve

Due to Alberta’s high case numbers, aggressive action is required now to protect our health system from being overwhelmed.
The current situation is critical. These mandatory restrictions apply provincewide and will be in place at least until January 12, 2021.
Health officials are monitoring the situation and will adjust measures if required.
    Gathering restrictions

Alberta declared a State of Public Health Emergency to protect the health care system from COVID-19. Social gatherings are the top source of transmission.
Effective Dec. 8, all indoor and outdoor social gatherings have been prohibited. This will be enforced with $1,000 fines.
  • Mandatory restriction – Provincewide – Effective Dec. 8
All indoor and outdoor social gatherings – public and private – are prohibited
    • Close contacts are limited to household members only
    • People who live alone can have up to 2 close contacts:
      • must be the same two contacts throughout the duration of the restriction
      • if the close contacts do not live alone, visits cannot be held at their home
      • single parents who only live with their children are permitted to have up to 2 close contacts
    This does not apply to:
    • co-parenting arrangements
    • service visits from caregivers, health or childcare providers
    • home maintenance and repairs

    • If you do not have a household in Alberta, you must not stay in other people’s homes while these restrictions are in place.
    Visitors
    • Out-of-town visitors cannot stay in other people's homes while these restrictions are in place, regardless of where they are coming from.
While we appreciate this may affect your travel plans as you may wish to visit or stay with family, the increase in COVID cases is being taken very seriously and these enhanced public health measures are required to stop the spread of COVID-19.

I'm obviously just playing. Wish Heritage was still here, loved that one as well. Sh Pk Mall kind of sleepy, least they have a movie theater. To me I walk in there and I swear its like tired Bonnie Doon mall. Really old.

Malls I never felt comfortable shopping have been North Gate and North Town.

Approached a few times asking if I'm a Drug Dealer and how much I charge.

Plus I've seen Syringes next to entrance ways which can be especially dangerous for children walking by.

Your post just validated his post even more. I too am quite disgusted at how readily everyone is bending over for this.

Yep. This is going to do nothing good and will just increase measures as resistance grows at the worst possible time, at the time of year where people want some kind of gathering, some kind of contact. I mean we have free world govt telling people that all gatherings of any peoples are prohibited in their own homes, on their own lawns, in their own their own parks, in their own communities.

What would be more restricted than this? rhetorical question, I know the answer.

Why is it just assumed we are "bending over"? I might as well stop paying taxes and not renew my drivers license. F*** the government. They can't tell me what to do!!!!!!

A virus that can be fought off by younger people (who knows the long term side effects), but can kill your mom or dad or grandparents quickly. Why the fuss right?

I can put up with it for a while. I have been bent over financially from this friggin virus. I can't do anything about it right now.

Consumer confidence doesn't get talked about that much. Open businesses 100%. How many people are confident to go overall. Lets lock down a little and get this done with so businesses, etc can thrive like they were before. Not limp through this.

maybe if I was single or wasn't around somebody who the virus could kill, I would be more of a rebel. I have to play it safe. Who knows. I might be selfish like a lot of really young people right now.

I follow the rules, so even if their were no restrictions, I could still get it, but my chances would be lower with how I act. I would rather get this thing down and have things go kind of back to normal, then just keep everything open and keep having high cases. Then the vaccine is coming. Light at the end of the tunnel.

I cannot wait for the new thread title to reflect today’s events.

Alberta Closed, sorry, Moose out front should've told you.

Had a weird feeling already on the weekend as we were watched walking around in a park. with police and security around monitoring, as the wife and I went for a walk. We even asked if it was OK to enter park as it felt like some kind of restriction had already been applied. There was like 8 people in the whole park, and 4 police and 2 security monitoring..

Listened to the entire presser Its still very unclear what constitutes a public gathering, how its defined, and how anybody proves it. Basically we're going to be seeing randomly applied, and wrong enforcement.

Oh don't go to any transit terminal...public gathering..

Bang. Enough said. But lets just all take the punishment, and no Xmas for anybody. No pudding. No nothing.

jk aside I can't see any of this working. This is going to get stupid.

Effectively they just now outlawed the toboggan hills kids have been loving. just sad. people can't even go out and have some fun outdoors now, where pandemic transmission is not occurring.

This is basically going to spell random outdoor enforcements, no clear guidelines, no clear understanding of what constitutes outdoor gathering.

Yeah at the end of the day it's going to come down to compliance and knowing people I just don't see it happening over the holiday season. They can close things to try and limit opportunities for spread but it will likely just force people into situations that aren't as safe or where they aren't being as cautious or caring as much.

These new restrictions seem so convoluted and vague it makes enforcement much more difficult. Basically it's just more warning posters hoping they can scare a few more people into compliance.

Basically said use common sense when going outside. Going for walk with family, fine. Going for walk with neighbors, not fine. Change 'walk' to most other activities and you should be fine.

He. That's my hood your talking about. Haven't seen syringes, but about 15 years ago I saw a dude pissing on the Northgate wall right beside Safeway in broad daylight on a Saturday afternoon. And 2 times within the last couple of years I was in the Liquor store while it was being ripped off.. I guess you have a point lol. I grew up on the North end so I'm used to it I guess.

For clarity then tell me whether toboggan hills, any, even the smallest hill with 5 people on it are now open or closed for business. Because not one family listening today would know that and thousands of families have been out enjoying those hills as there is hardly anything else left to do, or to go to.

Further, tell people whether such things as Candy Cane lane, or lol even Legislature light display gathering, is now allowed or prohibited. Nobody would know based on today.

Its really harmful when they start reducing peoples ability to gather, or recreate outside, where people are trying to comply, trying to exist, trying to have some enjoymnet, and not spreading pandemic. I mean this today got to the point of being ridiculous restriction. They made it very clear anywhere could be considered exempted, or allowed depending on circumstance and who is there, not there, which nobody would have any way of detecting. This is unenforceable, or random and wrong enforcement. I mean they're setting up a keystone cops situations with these rules and a lot of potential false determination of gatherings.

To wit if 10 people at a dog run are talking, distanced, it looks like they know each other. They could get fined just for that with the assumption they know each other and gathered, which would be false.

Whatever kinds of advice they got today to make these latest guidelines, they should get their money back.

Theres a point at which you can manufacture laws that not even law abiding people will comply with or can even comply with due to all the confusion. That occurred today.

This was over 90minutes today of confusion press conference and I'm one of the rare people alertly paying attention to recommendations. Joe public out there won't have a clue what is being allowed, what isn't and will just dismiss it as random application of not understood rules. I doubt enforcement will know much better, or have much better applied understanding.

90 minutes into this somebody asked Kenney the astute question "what do you mean about outdoor gatherings, I don't understand what the rule is" and Kenney replied use commonsense. Obviiously if it was just commonsense question wouldn't be asked near end of question period.

i mean that alone spoke to what a clusterf*** of misinformation and confusing rules this was.

What do they mean by closure of outdoor gathring places? Thats pretty vague. Do they mean parks, dog runs, that kind of thing? Toboggan hills? Theres very little evidence of any transmission occurring outdoors throughout the pandemic, pretty much anywhere.

Closure of rec facilities, casinos, bowling alleys and the like make perfect sense, why were they even open?

Churches, thats always going to be a tricky area. Not going to weigh in on that. People that want to know my opinion.

The retail restricttions to 15 % make no sense whatsoever. I'm not sure any of the establishments had even adopted the 25% guideline, and this is Xmas coming.

We just allowed a complete Black friday week of fiasco in stores which are predicated on people buying all kinds of shit they don't need, now shutting it down. The same day its released that food costs are going up around 10% in coming year?

lol, look at gongshow crowds and violations from the current 25% in every store the rest of the week. I mean I'm not even seeing lineups anywhere, I'm seeing people piled into stores. Shoppers Drug mart yesterday, no way they were doing any restriction at all. Full as ever. They don't even have the staffing ability to restrict anything.

Seriously, has anybody seen people lined up outside the last week and a half? I don't think any stores are complying. In contrast when restrictions were in place in the Spring, you saw people lineup up outside regularly waiting to get in.
Bestbuy and eb Games had lineups outside. I'm sure other stores did as well considering they have staff standing inside with counters in their hands. Puralator and salon wouldn't allow more than 2 people inside.

This is 5 scrolled pages of gafflebarg information on the new restrictions announced today. Are they nuts? Do they think anybody will know, or be able to read and get through all these guidelines, even if they wanted to adhere.

I mean thanks for posting these, and appreciated but this alone is guideline madness and exhibits how strange this got.

You have to simplify information to get maximized universal follow through. This is the opposite, and hitting people at the worst time as they try to have some semblance of whats left of a festive season.

Tend to agree. Go out and murder 4 people in cold blood and the system bends over backwards to defend you and keep you out of jail.

Go visit lonely Granny (who has maybe 2 years to live) at midnight in a germ resistant space suit and risk a huge fine and public humiliation.

Pretty sure it says outdoor recreation is still open so ski hills, tobagonning etc should still be a go. "Hotels may remain open but must follow all relevant restrictions. Outdoor recreation is permitted but facilities with indoor space will be closed except for the washrooms."

It also specifies indoor arenas and rinks so I guess outdoor arenas are still good. Why would the specify "indoor" if closing them all.

Let it go... The two events have nothing in common unless Govt of Alberta fills in for Federal judiciary.
