Ask Pens fans what they would accept for Crosby and add considerably to that

I doubt anyone's going to get him for anything.

Let me try:

Pens: Crosby, Guentzel, Murray, and Sprong.

Toronto: Matthews, Marner, and Gardiner.

Buffalo: Eichel, Dahlen, and Risto.

Montreal: Nothing.

Detroit: Nothing.

Rangers: Nothing

Tampa: Point, Kuch, Serghacev ( sp?), and Vasi.

Dallas: Heiskanen, Seguin, Benn, and a 3rd.

Calgary: Johnny Hockey & Monohan.
Every offer is absurd lowballing for McDavid.

He has a massive cap hit, so I'm sure a competitive package could be assembled, despite his excellence as a player.

Top RFA/entry level player + young top 4 defenseman + top two prospects + two 1st round picks.

Generational player for high end futures and cap space. What would this package look like from your team?

Pierre-Luc Dubois
Zach Werenski
Elvis Merzlinkins

I don’t think you can quantify it. There’s no model for it. A franchise player, entering his prime, signed long term. The closest comparison would be Gretzky. Gretzky wasn’t traded, so much as sold. It was a different time. The owners other businesses were failing and he needed cash.

If I’d give a theoretical, I’d say two of a team’s top five
players, their two best prospects and two first rounders.

Asking the question, though, is like asking how much I would pay for a unicorn. If one ever became available, the price would be so astronomical, I probably wouldn’t pay the price.

any offer isn't enough. this 21 year put up 108 points with no help and almost no PP points. that's just f***ing incredible. just sit back and imagine this kid on the leafs, bolts, bruins, penguins. I mean dear lord with help he gets 120 points easy. he has 2 art rosses, 2 Lindsey's and 1 Hart and he's only 21 .jebus

I think more something like:

Werenski
Jones
Dubois
Plus more

Honestly, I don't think a team could get McDavid without gutting their entire organization.

Herein lies the problem. I think there are deals out there that could land McDavid. But unless you've got insane organizational depth it is hard to imagine being able to do so without just destroying your team.

The truth of the matter is Connor McDavid doesn't get traded. Not unless there was some sort of external circumstance like a trade request and the Oilers hand is forced. Otherwise there isn't a deal that would be worth it to both sides. The Oilers would rightly ask for the other teams 2+ most valuable players+picks/prospects and the other team would rightly say no.

You might be able to get there with something like Eichel+Dahlin++
McDavid brings a lot of off ice contributions to a franchise though so you'd have to overpay

I think Winnipeg and Tampa Bay are the only teams with a bunch of solid assets that can afford giving up without gutting the whole team. Maybe Buffalo if they feel like giving up Eichel and Dahlin and another +.

I would much rather have Eichel and Dahlin on my team than Mcdavid...
Just like i would much rather have Point, Kucherov and Sergachev or Matthews, Nylander and Marner than just Mcdavid...
