Connor McDavid should be 2020 Masterton winner. No doubt.

Ya which is always such crap. Why even have two trophy's at that point.

What years could you argue the Art Ross winner wasn't a worthy Hart winner or the Hart should have gone to the Art Ross winner if their team made the playoffs?

17/18 certainly comes to mind. Any other good examples?

I’m really hoping McDavid has a very healthy career. We we’re deprived of that with Crosby.

Looking like his fourth straight 100 point season coming up. Who’s the last to do that?
Think about it for a second:
Orr - knees taken out
Gretzky - back injuries
Mario - back injuries/cancer
Lindros - Concussions
Crosby - Concussions
McDavid - Knees
Aside from cancer(god Mario is inspirational) the NHL has done a really bad job protecting their generational players, and players have trouble stopping them so they have to kind of cheat to stop them. Cannot imagine if the league dropped their "they are big tough hockey players" and actually use teh rules to protect these talents how good of a career each one of them could have had vs what they actually had. I have just pointed out generational talent, there are lists of cheap injuries done to the next tier of guys too.

Should be Tkachuk. Got jumped and his head smashed in by a lunatic but fought through the trauma and was ready to play the next day, not 6 months "between games". Would also be a good gesture showing the league is cognizant of head injuries as well.
Clear troll jobs, trying to get a reaction from Oiler fans.
The problem is is you stated head injuries......Tkachuk lacks the actual equipment to have one of those.

The Hart trophy is kind of a farce anyways. Playoffs have become the unwritten standard. And honestly, the goalies should always get it because if your goalies sucks, no player in the world can over come that.

He didn't miss a game because he rehabbed for 10 hours a day, 7 days a week for 5 months...

So, basically like a job?

Yay??

I mean if I was getting paid $3500/hour to rehab my knee, well, I'd be in a good head space!

But it's always this way whenever McDavid is discussed, right?

He has to be the best at everything. Everything.

Head juke, blows by defender....best ever.

Scores goal in tight with quick hands......best ever.

Waiting for his first Michigan......it will undoubtedly be the best ever.

Recovers from knee injury....best recovery ever.

The guy us a straight up machine. He's amazing. But it gets tiresome listening to Oiler fans tell us about how much better he is at everything.

Buddy, you can't be serious? Please tell me you're not serious!!

The other players should allow unrestricted access for generational players?

Is this what you're actually saying?

Maybe they should wear special sweaters so other players know not to touch them?

This is basically what you're saying!?!?

Dear god....this place some times.

If people talking about McDavid pains you this much, why post in every McDavid thread?

Because it's my right??

I'll ask you thins Nicks......am I being unreasonable? Over the top? Saying things that make no sense?

Sure, but why needlessly make yourself upset by seeking it out?

And yeah, I would say unreasonable is a good way to put it. If you find yourself on the opposite side of the majority opinion in every McDavid discussion, maybe the people praising McDavid aren't the issue.

Did the media make a movie about Taylor Feduns recovery from that horrific fracture to his femur ? No and why would they ? He was and still is a fringe NHL player . The only reason this movie even exists is one of the darlings of the hockey media is involved . Don't get me wrong McDavid is a great player but don't think for second this movie would be made for "lesser" Oiler players. Don't even think Draisaitl would get that treatment .

This isn't a knock on McDavid but on the hype machine .

Its interesting and entertinaing. Not sure why your panties are in a bunch.

I'm not upset. At all.

Just offering up an opinion.

Isn't that what this place is all about?

Do you not find a sliver of truth to what I'm saying, even from behind your blue tinted glasses?

I don't fly off the handle and make stupid remarks, at least not often, I just say what |I feel.

I'm not saying "McDavid sucks!! He's not deserving of this award!! He didn't even miss a game!!"

Of course nobody should be putting down someone else's injury. However, when you are dealing with an award (which this topic is about) you have to compare things even though it may seem cringe worthy at times. It doesn't mean you don't think the other person is not deserving, it's just you have to choose only one to win.

It sounds like Johns had a tough time. Can anyone update his storey. I know concussions are miserable but other than that, I don't know too much. What kind of dedication or treatment did he go through to get back. To me that is the heart of what the award should be about. They said McDavid's routine was 10hrs a day/7 days a week. If Johns is comparable, I have no objection to him winning it.

Here is my antidotal take.

2012 - I recieved my 4th concussion backchecking a much larger forward who lost his balance, took my down and my head smashed on the ice. One of the top concussion specialist in Toronto recommended I quit hockey (I did for 3 years). Every time my head gets touched I get worried. My wife can't grab my head to give me a kiss or I get a severe headache. I was hit by a weak volleyball serve and it took me out for a week and I was uncontrollably miserable. When it was fresh if I turned my head to quick I would get headaches. This isn't something I would wish om anyone.

2016 - a year after starting to play hockey I took a bad fall and tore my MCL (grade 2) and damaged my meniscus. I was in a brace for 6 months and had an addtional 8 months of rehab. It sucked.

If I had to choose one of the 2 injuries to have again, it is the MCL 10 times out of 10. Its not even a question Not even close.

Stamkos should win in the future, he's one of the most dedicated players out there.

But McDavid should this year if he continues to play through that injury. But hope the second the season ends he undergoes surgery.

Would Lindblom be a worthy candidate or is that when he beats cancer and comes back either next season or the following one?
I was thinking of him too but they said he will be out for the season so maybe its when he returns? I'm not sure on the requirements tbh. Stephen Johns should be right in the mix as well this season.

You came to a McDavid thread for the Masterson and are mad about people being impressed with his recovery and program he went through. So basically upset at all this discussion about McDavid in his own thread. Seems pretty stupid but hey its a free country. You do you.

Yeah he just authored one of the most cerebral wins in recent memory no biggie.

Imagine if McDavid had Tkachuk's hockey IQ and game management understanding. He'd actually be able to successfully draw all those pps he deserves but doesn't get called in his favor

Why is this place always about extremes??

I'm not mad. I'm not even upset.

Nowhere have I said that he is undeserving of the Masterson. He absolutely deserves to be nominated.

I'm certainly not mad about people being impressed with his recovery.

Do I think it's a bit self serving of Oiler fans to be claiming McDavid is the "only" choice for the award? Sure I am. Along with many others.

As for the comments about McDavid being better at everything he does in Oiler fans eyes, well, that's just a fact.

And we all know there are many, many, threads claiming as much.

Come on Nicks......that's a cop out. We all know, other than the Maple Leafs, the Oilers have the largest population on here.

Any main board topic involving McDavid with have HFOil out in droves.

Of course all that oppose the topic at hand will be dwarfed.

Besides, I don't think I've ever said anything about McDavid that would be construed as me being a "hater". I love the guy......I just don't like the sweater he's wearing. Or the fan base at times.

No different than when Gretzky wore the Oil Drop.

Hundreds? There are probably 50-75 unique posters in this thread.

McDavid is a very good choice for Masterson. There is a great chance he wins based on who he is. That said the other choice (Johns) would have my vote after being through both injuries.

Its funny to me that on a message board people are si adverse to open discussuon. its this "McDavid or nothing" attitude that rubs people the wrong way and cause push back.
